The Gigolo System in the Academy of Magic-Chapter 38: Helene’s Request
Chapter 38 - Helene's Request
James left the library in a great mood. Looking at the system notifications made his mood ever better.
[Recurring Achievement: Be intimate with Selena in a public space]
[Reward: 5000 affection points]
He was a little stunned. This was the most affection points he had received at once so far. Thinking about it, he always seemed to get more rewards when doing things in public...
James couldn't help but wonder whether this was the gigolo system or the depravity system?
The academy was especially relaxed today. With no combat training and the weekend upcoming, the halls were filled with idle chatter and a sense of release. Students strolled more slowly, some laughing in clusters, others paired off and wandering arm in arm.
James found himself among them, a part of the scenery but detached. There was still one more class left for the day, "Dark Enchantments and Magical Theory" taught by Professor Helene Ashvane. Because of this many of the students were very excited.
After all, for the first years there was a lack of beautiful teachers. While Selena was also quite stunning she always sported a stern face that made people scared, unlike Helene who could enchant anyone with a single glance.
When James entered the lecture hall, he immediately noticed the back row was occupied by demons again. That in itself wasn't unusual, but what caught his attention was the snake demon who had been roasted the day before.
He looked completely normal as if he hadn't just recently been singed black. At this time he was shooting daggers at Kira, who just ignored him.
James shook his head. This demon was really quite stupid, unlike the other demons he had met. You got defeated so easily, what's the point of looking fierce?
James checked the snake demon's favorability toward him out of curiosity.
[Favorability: -30]
"What?" he muttered to himself.
That was the lowest score he'd seen among the demon students. And they hadn't even spoken. James thought it was ridiculous but he didn't pay it too much mind, after all the lesson was getting interesting.
Professor Helene stood in front of the class in a black magic robe that highlighted her exaggerated figure, and every groove and dimple of her body drew people's attention. She gestured toward a tall, gray-skinned figure beside her - Gorran, the stone demon.
"As you all know, demons possess a fundamentally different approach to channeling magic," she began, her voice smooth and commanding.
"Where most human mages use soul and mana together to form spell structures, demons rely on blood and mana, directed through runic engravings carved into their bodies."
She beckoned Gorran forward, waving her hand as his shirt dissolved.
Gasps rippled through the class as everyone got a good look at his torso.
Lines of etched runes glowed faintly beneath his skin, pulsing with a rhythmic energy. The marks were carved deep, running along his arms, chest, and even along the sides of his neck.
James leaned forward, fascinated. He was curious if humans could also engrave these tattoos on their body?
Helene continued, parading Gorran around the class like an interesting specimen.
"Because of this, most demons tend to have stronger physical bodies at the same magical level. They can also use more of their inherent bloodline abilities. Instead of spells, low level demons, first begin to bring out and use their suppressed bloodline.
"However, this comes at the cost of weaker soul strength. Most of the people in this classroom probably have stronger soul power than Gorran over here."
She paused, then added, "Of course, that is only a general rule. Some bloodlines reverse this entirely, and at the higher levels both races begin to focus more on the soul."
Actually, James could understand this second point. While Abyss Walkers were not from the demon race, and instead a special kind of magical creature, they seemed to trade strong physical strength for extreme survivability.
If you were to ask what creature is the strongest at the same level it would be difficult. Some may say dragons, some may say trolls. But if you were to ask which creature was the hardest to kill?
The answer was obvious.
James couldn't help but be grateful for the system, and even more curious about who could actually kill an Abyss Walker and get a drop of blood. That must be a very powerful being.
The lesson ended in the evening, and even though many people were infatuated with Professor Helene, they still left briskly. After all it was going to be the weekend, they wanted to go out and enjoy the city.
Ainsworth Academy, though considered a school, was more like a big city with many different sectors. James had been here for over two months and he had only explored a small amount of it.
But he couldn't leave so early. Looking at the message from his communicator, James circled back to the classroom.
"What did you call me for professor?"
He had just helped her verify information yesterday, and now she's already making him work?
But when he entered the room again, he was surprised to see he wasn't the only one in the classroom.
James cursed in his mind. She should have told him in the message, or he might have said something bad just now!
He looked at the two girls, Lydia Clearwater and Kira Nocturne. James didn't understand why Helene would call the two of them.
Helene looked up from her desk and smiled. "Good, you're all here. Saves me the trouble of asking twice."
She gestured at the trio.
"You see, the demon students are unfamiliar with the academy layout and its social customs. Since it's the weekend, we'd like to do some exploring. I was hoping you three could serve as guides."
It made sense why she would ask Lydia, after all the Clearwater House clearly supported the demons in the Council of Thirteen Houses, and Kira was a top student, but why would she ask him?
That seemed to be what the two girls were thinking.
Especially Kira.
James could feel her eyes boring into him.
James was also a little confused. If Helene really wanted him to be a spy wouldn't it be better for them to distance themselves in public? freēwēbηovel.c૦m
But he didn't think too much, this was a good opportunity either way.
Ignoring the strange looks of the two girls, he said:
"Of course professor, I'd be happy to help you!"
He had a blush on his face and he spoke with a nervous expression, like he was completely infatuated with the beautiful demon woman.
