THE GOD EATER-Chapter 161: Too Ugly.
He thought about switching carriages to avoid her. But then he shook his head and said, "Why should I be the one to change carriage? I came here first, and it is not like I am afraid of her. I just don’t want her to bother me."
As it turned out, he was right to think that she would bother him because she came up to him after a while.
She smiled as she approached him and said, "Are you a soldier deploying to battlefield E6-137 or just a logistics personnel?"
In response, Loki said, "I work alone."
His reply to her question was rude to say the least. Not only did he not answer her question, but he also assumed that she was trying to recruit him, and he put an end to it before she could ask by rejecting her.
A normal person would not like what he did, so Jane’s reaction could only be more exaggerated. As a proud person, she felt that she had been insulted by the rejection.
So she sneered at him and said, "Who is trying to recruit you? I just wanted to tell you that you’re ugly and shouldn’t come anywhere near me for the foreseeable future."
Then she huffed and sharply turned away from him.
As he watched her leave, a smile tugged at his lips, and he said to himself, "What a class act! If I didn’t know what her true goal was, she would have fooled me with this outburst."
He could have said to her, "I am not ugly. Even if I were, who goes up to strangers to tell them that they are ugly? Who do you think you can fool with such a lie?"
But he didn’t say that because he didn’t want to bother with her anymore. Actually, he didn’t want to bother with anything other than the energy threads in his skull. This is why the smile tugging at his lips didn’t become a full smile.
He felt that it was too much effort to smile. Therefore, there was no way that he was going to waste anymore time with her.
Soon after that unfortunate event, the teian began to move. Then the conductor came over with her warnings.
Loki knew that he didn’t have anything to worry about from the energy siphoning in a normal situation. But his situation was far from normal currently because he needed his internal energy for fusing energy threads, so he took out a lot of energy stones to make sure that the energy siphoning wouldn’t interrupt what he started yesterday.
Jane saw him do this and also saw that all of the energy stones that he took out were drained after they exited the world barrier. This made her misunderstand Loki’s situation.
So she sneered and said to herself, "What a waste. I can’t believe that I tried to recruit such an untalented waste of space. He looks as if the energy siphoning will kill him. How can he fare well on the battlefield then?"
As she spoke, she shook her head in regret. She truly felt that she had been cheated because not only had she tried to recruit an untalented person, she had also been rejected by the untalented person.
She didn’t really mean it when she said that Loki should keep his distance from her before. But now, she felt that it would be further insulting to her person to be anywhere around a waste of space like Loki.
So she stayed true to her words and didn’t bother with Loki anymore. The two parties treated each other like a plague that had to be avoided at all costs.
Unfortunately for them, they still had to meet after they alighted from the train and listened to Amelia speak to them. They were further forced to stay near each other when Greg took to the stage.
As soon as Greg opened his mouth, people began to get angry. Some of them frowned, while some more audacious people stepped up to fight Greg because of all the insults.
Loki was one of the people who wanted to fight Greg. He was so angry that people had to hold back from fighting Greg.
As he stretched his hands out to grab Greg, he shouted loudly, saying, "Fuck you. How dare you say something like that to us? Who do you think you are? Come over here and let me teach you some manners."
Three fellow soldiers grabbed him and prevented him from reaching Greg. These three were doing so because he had paid them to hold him back, not because they cared about his safety.
Jane didn’t know this, so she looked at him with even more disdain than she could usually muster and said out loud to everyone, "What a waste of cultivator. He can’t even control his emotions despite the absence of external mental influences. I am ashamed to be considered a member of the same sect as a barbarian like him."
Her words resonated with very few people because they, too, were already pissed at Greg. They just hadn’t reached the level of trying to fight Greg.
Amelia saw this and decided that the question and answer session couldn’t be allowed to continue, or the situation would escalate into a massacre, even if the massacre would be orchestrated by Greg, not her.
So Amelia said to them, "I’ve seen enough to decide where you should go."
After saying this, she pointed at the four subordinates around her and said, "These four will be your commanders. I will assign you to the posts that they control for the foreseeable future of your deployment. There are many other posts in this small world, but only these four are in dire need of manpower.
Then she smiled and said, "For the few of you that I assigned to Greg over here, I want to tell you that you didn’t get assigned to him just because of bad luck."
