The Guide is Actually a Body-Switching Esper [BL]-Chapter 190: Ava to the Rescue
Chapter 190: Ava to the Rescue
A knock on the door snapped Lane out of his daze.
But, he remained on his bed. Who cares what the others wanted from him? He didn’t feel like moving. Staring blankly at the ceiling suited him just fine.
However, the knocking resounded in the empty room once again, louder this time.
...So what? Lane still remained unmoving. Let them knock until their hands fall off, he didn’t care.
"Hey, are you dead there?"
Huh? This voice...
Lane blinked. Then, he swiftly jumped off the bed, and flung the door open.
"So you are awake," Ava lifted her brows.
"They’ve let you in?" Lane asked stupidly, still struck in disbelief, half-convinced he was hallucinating. He had been in contact with Ava all this time, of course, and they had been plotting how to get Lane out of the mansion, but the Allens had prevented them from meeting!
So, what changed now?
"As you can see," Ava shrugged her shoulders, stepping into the room. "Pack up now, we’re going to my place!"
"...Huh?" Lane tilted his head, staring at her blankly.
"What, you don’t want to?"
"Of course I do!" Finally recovering from the surprise, Lane rushed to throw some clothes into his backpack. Still, he couldn’t help but ask, "But... How?"
"Well," Ava paused, observing him for a moment, before she simply said, "Because of Nyla. It seems she convinced them somehow."
Lane froze, with a hoodie in his hands.
If it was Nyla, then it was believable... But even then, there was no way their parents would agree to fulfill her request without her offering something in return.
"I don’t know how," Ava said, guessing what Lane was thinking. "I just know that she asked your parents to let you stay at my place at least for a few days."
"Hmm." Lane hummed under his nose. It was suspicious. Very much so. Still, he was not in the position to complain. It had already been way too long, if he had any intentions to try to patch things up with Damien, then he really couldn’t afford to wait any longer.
"Alright, let’s go." He said, stuffing a few more things in the backpack. There were a lot of clothes in his room now - he ordered them online, to have something to wear while he was stuck inside - but they, as well as the backpack, were just for show anyway. To pretend that he was living as a civilian, and didn’t have a spatial bag at all.
They went through the spacious hallways, down the stairs, and finally, out of the mansion! Ava’s car was waiting in the massive driveway. They both got in, and Ava started the car, taking Lane out of this prison of ’home’!
With another car with the guards following them, of course. The Allens might have agreed to let Lane out of the house, but not out of sight! All three guards were just B-rankers, as Lane quickly confirmed with Mana Scan, so it was alright. They wouldn’t get in the way of his plans.
"So? What are you up to now?" Ava asked once they finally arrived at her apartment.
Lane glanced at the clock. It was just past noon, so Damien was most likely at work. Trying to find him at the Association was too risky... It was better to wait until the evening, when he would return home. Lane has already waited so long, a few more hours wouldn’t make much of a difference at this point.
"Let’s order some food," he said, scooping out his phone from his pocket, and opening one of the food delivery apps. "Do you have anything to drink?"
"There’s some beer in the fridge."
"Cool!" Lane nodded, as he threw himself on the couch. Since he had time, it would be best to try to chill out, relax a bit before the hour of judgment came!
Even though, as it soon turned out, a few beers were nowhere enough to relieve all the tension he felt. While he was happy that he would finally get to see his boyfriend again (because they were still boyfriends, right?), the conversation they were going to have... Lane honestly didn’t remember when was the last time he had been so uneasy and stressed! It was even worse than when he first told Damien about his possession ability, by far! So much so, that a part of him wished the time would stop and wait, until Lane calmed down a bit...
But it wouldn’t. Time didn’t wait, and the evening inevitably arrived, depriving the world of the brightness of the day. Aware that dragging it on any longer wouldn’t make things easier, Lane slowly got up, changed into some casual, yet flattering clothes, opened the window, took a few deep breaths...
"Wish me luck," he muttered to Ava.
And then jumped out, activating his cloaking ability, and started running high up in the dark skies, heading toward Damien’s apartment.
He arrived there not long later - one of the disadvantages of Sky Step was that if he slowed down too much, he would start to descend, and therefore he was forced to maintain a quick pace.
It seems he was lucky though, because Damien’s windows were dark, the man wasn’t back home yet. Lane landed in a back alley, where he was out of sight, checked if his hood and face mask were still in place, and deactivated the cloaking. Then, he slowly walked over to Damien’s block, and situated himself a few feet away from the building’s entrance, leaning against the wall, next to some hideous, vulgar graffiti.
And then he waited. ƒreewebɳovel.com
Until almost a two hours later, a familiar figure appeared at the end of the street, heading his way.
Lane gulped loudly, unconsciously fixing his clothes. He was so nervous he thought he might faint... It was the last moment for him to run away.
But he didn’t. And soon, Damien arrived in front of the block.
And their eyes met.
