Chapter 191: No Longer Allowed

Lane and Damien’s eyes met.

And Damien recognized him, Lane had no doubt about that. His steps even faltered, and he stopped in place, staring, for a minute.

But then, Damien averted his eyes, went to the entrance, pressed up a few buttons, and opened the door. Without a word.

He... ignored Lane?

Lane was momentarily shocked, his heart plummeting to the ground. But, he soon recovered, and rushed after the man, catching the door before it closed. He got so far, he couldn’t give up now!

He ran up the stairs, catching up to Damien, and captured the man right before he got to his apartment door, pressing him to the wall. Was that how he planned to get things done? Of course not! But, as the first step - their encounter - already had gone so wrong, he was forced to improvise.

Besides... What his original plan even was? Lane couldn’t remember anymore.

"Wait," he gasped, his breathing uneven and shallow for some reason. "Where are you going?"

For what felt like an eternity, Damien remained silent. He didn’t even meet Lane’s gaze anymore. Which was an achievement in itself, as Lane filled most of his view! Now that Lane was in his real body, they were almost the same height, only an inch apart. So, when Lane was pressing him like that, their faces only inches apart, it was hard for Damien to find something to hang his eyes on! Well, something SAFE to hang on. Because the were Lane’s eyes, Lane’s lips, Lane’s collarbone... But looking at them wasn’t good for Damien’s heart.

The temperature on the staircase was quickly dropping, to the point that clouds of vapor started forming from their heated breaths. Ice fractals were growing on the wall behind Damien’s back, and Lane’s hands, holding Damien’s wrists, frosted over...

Did Damien neglect getting proper guiding again? Lane was about to comment on that, when Damien finally spoke,

"What do you want from me?"

"Uh... What?" Lane’s chest tightened, and his mind went completely blank upon hearing the tone of Damien’s voice. It was so tired, so hopeless, so... hurt...

"You... You say that you’re being honest, only to tell me lies. You promise that you’ll contact me immediately, only for weeks to go by. You..." Damien paused, letting out a heavy sigh. "Never mind. I guess I was just fooling myself."

"...What do you mean?"

Damien didn’t answer. He just lowered his gaze, and whispered, "I get it, it’s fine. But please, don’t torment me this way. Lane, or whatever your name is, please just let me go..."

Let Damien go?

Lane’s grip on Damien’s wrists tightened. "Hah!" he sneered. "What the hell?" He was gritting his teeth, but his stomach was twisted in knots, to the point he felt he could throw up. The only thing that stopped him from gagging was Damien’s handsome face right in front of his eyes.

He hated the idea. No, he DESPISED it. There was no way he could just accept that now and leave. Not when he could tell from Damien’s eyes that the man was not over him yet. That there was still a chance...

"If it’s your ability that you’re worried about," Damien continued hesitantly. "Then don’t worry, I- Mph!"

Damien never got to finish saying what Lane didn’t have to worry about, because his mouth was blocked.

By Lane’s mouth.

Lane smashed his lips against Damien’s violently, sucking so hard as if he was suffocating, and that was the only way he could breathe right. Or as if he was trying to erase all those unpleasant words Damien had just said.

"It’s way too late for you to ask for that," he muttered as he pulled away for a moment. "Weren’t you the one who chased after me, when I tried to run away? You searched, you chased, you observed, you questioned, you set so many traps. You just wouldn’t let me go. So how dare you ask me to leave you alone now?"

"Let me make it clear," he leaned closer, biting Damien’s earlobe as he whispered, no, practically growled, "It is no longer allowed. Or else I’m going to do to you the same thing you did to me. Got it?"

For a while, Damien was too stunned to speak. And when he finally managed to open his mouth again, what came out was, "...Are you drunk?"

"Hmph. Does it make a difference?" Lane breathed deeply, inhaling the familiar scent of herbal shampoo. Damn, he missed that smell so much! "I’m no longer rational when it comes to you anyway, sober or not."

"You..." Damien started. But once again, Lane claimed his lips before he could finish what he wanted to say. Whether it was because Lane was so starved for a kiss, or afraid of what Damien might say, or both, it was unclear. What was certain though, was that Damien shared his sentiments, and kissed Lane back.

All the tension instantly drained from Lane, and he sighed into the kiss, finally loosening his grip on Damien’s wrists a bit. He removed his right hand completely, making a small motion toward the door, and unlocking it with a twist of his fingers. It revealed one of his plundered abilities, one that Damien didn’t know about yet... But it was no longer Lane’s concern. He was going to tell Damien the truth about his ability later on anyway, the ACTUAL truth, so what difference did that make?

And the unauthorized use? Lane’s whole existence was ’unauthorized use’! And right now, the use of his low-ranking telekinesis was perfectly justified. It was so that they could quickly get inside, and get comfortable! Lane shouldn’t have his first real time with Damien on the stinky, dirty staircase, right?

With the door to Damien’s apartment open, ready to welcome them inside, Lane wrapped his arm around Damien’s waist, and lifted the man, carrying him inside without interrupting the kiss. Then, he shut the door, flicked the light switch, and took Damien to his tiny bed in his tiny room.

Yes, they needed to talk, Lane knew they did. But... it could wait a little longer, no?

First, Lane had to give Damien a reason to let it all slide and stay with him, by showing off one of the advantages of being his boyfriend.
