The Headline Queen: President Hawthorne is Her Die-Hard Fan!-Chapter 462: What Have You Been Busy With?
Paige Sterling chuckled, "Of course not, just giving you a heads-up so you won’t unknowingly make a mistake."
Paige then stood up, "Alright, I won’t disturb you guys. I’ll be busy elsewhere. Take your time to discuss whatever you need."
With that, Paige gracefully left, and Wayne Wright gathered the files she left on the coffee table before leaving as well.
Julian Hawthorne and Alisa both had unpleasant expressions.
They couldn’t quite figure out what Paige was thinking.
And they had a vague feeling that what they were plotting suddenly seemed tricky.
Because Paige didn’t seem as simple-minded as they thought.
Alisa suddenly said, "Julian, I think you should be gentler with Paige. If she stops trusting you, it’ll be troublesome..."
Alisa continued, "I know you don’t care about what’s in her hands, but since she’s treating you this way, don’t be too generous with what’s rightfully yours."
"I know," Julian reassured Alisa, "If it weren’t for me, she wouldn’t be where she is today. I built her up, and now that she’s gained some independence, she’s challenging me? That’s not how it works. Since she’s no longer worth my efforts, whatever I gave her, I can take back."
Alisa was finally satisfied.
After leaving Julian Hawthorne’s office, Paige Sterling stepped into the elevator and glanced at Wayne Wright.
"Don’t worry, I won’t let you go."
Wayne acknowledged with a hum.
Paige added meaningfully, "For now, I find you quite handy."
Wayne, "..."
He didn’t understand what Paige meant.
And the way Paige looked at him suddenly became a bit strange.
Wayne soon realized what was strange about Paige.
When he first started working with Paige, she always kept her distance.
But this time, after bringing him back to the Sterling Family, she became unrestrained, as if she forgot he was a man, treating him like a nanny.
She even dressed boldly in front of him and occasionally teased him.
Eventually, she even left things like dressing up to him.
Wayne’s expression grew more complex by the day. Had Paige been heartbroken and was now completely letting loose like a runaway horse?
And was it to the extent that she wouldn’t even spare someone as plain-looking as him?
At that moment, Paige lay on the bed, asking Wayne to massage her.
Wayne reminded her, "There’s a robot."
Paige replied, "It doesn’t do a good job; I want you to do it."
Wayne, "..." That was a program she designed; how could it not do well?
"Hurry up, my shoulders are so sore from modifying data these days."
She seemed a bit uncomfortable, and Wayne immediately forgot everything else, only wanting her to feel better.
He sat down beside the bed and started massaging Paige’s shoulders.
It was initially over her silk nightgown’s jacket, but then Paige loosened the tie and slid the garment off her shoulders, exposing them.
Wayne, "..."
He paused.
Paige urged him, "Use some oil."
Wayne silently poured essential oil into his hands and continued to massage.
Paige seemed to enjoy it, letting out a few satisfied hums, "So comfy."
Wayne was getting a bit flustered and wanted to take a cold shower, but Paige certainly wouldn’t let him go.
This woman lately enjoyed teasing him, as if she had seen through him.
While Wayne was lost in random thoughts, Jared Sullivan returned.
The first thing he did upon returning was to check on his daughter.
The door wasn’t fully closed, so when he pushed it open, he saw his daughter lying on the bed, seemingly asleep, with that plain-looking Wayne sitting beside her. His large hands were on his daughter’s bare shoulders... taking advantage...
Jared’s face turned green, "Beast, what did you do to my daughter!?"
Taking advantage of his daughter while she was asleep, outrageous!
Furious, Jared looked around for something and finally found a plastic rod, which he directly swung at Wayne.
"I’ll beat you, you bastard! I’ll beat you! How dare you act recklessly!"
Wayne stood there, letting Jared hit him.
Paige opened her eyes at the commotion and was scared, even though it was a plastic rod and didn’t hurt much, her heart ached.
"Dad! Stop it, please!"
She hurriedly put on her clothes and tried to push Wayne away.
This fool, why didn’t he dodge?
Jared was still angry, "Today I’m going to beat this scoundrel to death. How dare he take advantage of you! Paige, stay out of this! Dad will teach him a lesson!"
Seeing Jared genuinely intent on hitting someone and Wayne not dodging, Paige quickly stood in front of Wayne, looking embarrassed, "Dad, he didn’t do anything to me, really..."
Jared retorted indignantly, "You still trust this beast! I saw it with my own eyes!"
Paige, "I allowed it."
"What?", Jared was bewildered, looking at Paige, "You you you..."
Jared couldn’t understand why his daughter would let this man act freely.
Then Jared thought, maybe Julian Hawthorne had broken his daughter’s heart, and she finally opened up to finding a new chance?
As a father, Jared didn’t oppose his daughter enjoying life.
But when his gaze fell on Wayne’s face, he thought differently.
If she was to find a man, she should find a good-looking one. With Wayne looking so plain, was Paige torturing herself?
Paige had no idea what her father was imagining, watching his face shift colors.
As she was about to speak, Jared put down the plastic rod, "Paige, Dad knows you’re having a hard time now. No matter what you do, Dad supports you, but don’t torture yourself like this."
Paige, "....?"
Jared said, "Paige, tell Dad honestly, do you still want to be with Julian?"
Paige nodded, "Of course."
Divorce? No way, she would never divorce Julian.
"Dad supports you too."
Julian’s an unworthy guy, but since his daughter wasn’t foolishly clinging to him, Jared figured whether they divorced or not didn’t really matter.
He said, "But don’t mess around with this Wayne. Wait a few days and Dad will find you someone better."
Then he left the room again.
Both Paige and Wayne had a bad feeling.
A few days later, this bad feeling came true. Jared gleefully returned home carrying a thick paper-bound sketchbook.
The sketchbook was thick, probably a few hundred pages.
He handed it to Paige, who took it and flipped it open.
The first page showed a handsome man with eight-pack abs, shirtless.
The second page, another handsome man with eight-pack abs, shirtless.
Paige quickly scanned through the next few pages, all handsome men, shirtless, with eight-pack abs.
Paige looked at Jared, "Dad, what’s this about?"
Jared said, "These are all the men Dad has gathered, some fresh young stars from the entertainment world, some industry elites. Tell Dad which one you fancy, and I’ll get him for you right away."
Paige, "..."
Jared added, "If you like them all, Dad can get them all for you."
Paige, "..."
Wayne, watching Jared’s determination to find a man for his daughter, was beside himself.
His gaze fixated intently on Paige. He swore, if Paige dared to look at those photos for even a second longer, he’d...!
Feeling Wayne’s stare from behind, Paige quickly closed the sketchbook, "Dad, is this what you’ve been busy with recently?"
