The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 281 Get a 4D ultrasound
Hearing the casual tone in Tristan’s voice, Kai’s expression stiffened.
He gave Tristan a light punch on the chest, forcing out a half-smile. "Come on, don’t joke like that. You..."
"I’m not the joking type, you know that," Tristan puffed deeply on his cigarette and looked up at the sky, exhaling slowly. "Life’s kinda like this smoke—here one second, gone the next."
Kai’s face darkened. "What’s been going on these past few months? You gotta let me in."
Tristan stubbed out the cigarette and tossed it into the trash. He slung an arm around Kai’s shoulder. "Let’s go inside and talk."
Meanwhile, Rachel tugged Megan into the dining room and sat down, resting her ear on Megan’s belly.
Megan chuckled. "What can you even hear? Just put your hand there, you’ll feel it better."
Rachel let out a soft "oh" and adjusted herself, putting her hand on Megan’s round belly. A grin spread across her face. "He kicked! He really did! So strong—it’s gotta be a boy. The Lewis family’s probably crying in the bathroom by now."
"We’ve got a 4D ultrasound scheduled this afternoon."
Rachel’s eyes lit up. "That means we’ll know the gender! I’m coming with!"
"For what?" Penelope Reid brought over a bowl of oatmeal and set it in front of Megan. "Tagging along to be a third wheel? It’s a moment for the couple—give them some space."
Rachel pouted. "Fine, I won’t go. I’ll just have my own baby someday."
Penelope tapped Rachel lightly on the forehead. "Maybe finish school first before you start having kids."
Rachel huffed. "If Meg can do it, why can’t I?"
Penelope raised a brow, clearly unimpressed. "Meg’s Lila Moore, the founder of LX. She’s also Landon’s wife—CEO of NexusStar. Now she’s using her real name and she was, let’s not forget, the legendary hacker, ShadowWing. Just those three titles alone... You think you can match that?"
Rachel twisted her fingers and mumbled, "Meg isn’t even human, let’s be real. With those credentials, she could go toe-to-toe with my brother. Me? I’m not even a speck on the map, more like micro-dust. Even if I live to be a grandma, I won’t be anywhere near her level."
Megan stirred her oatmeal and smiled. "Aunt Penelope, are you trying to get me in trouble? Rachel’s got her own strengths—she’s sweet, smart, super creative. Once she graduates and opens her own fashion label, she’ll be killing it too."
Rachel stuck her tongue out at Penelope. "See? Megan believes in me!"
Something suddenly occurred to Megan. "Aunt Penelope, could you help prepare an extra bowl of soup for lunch? I want to bring it to the hospital for someone."
"Of course," Penelope nodded. "Just tell me if you need anything else."
"Thanks, Auntie," Megan smiled.
After breakfast, Megan went upstairs to rest. She hadn’t slept for a full twenty-four hours and could barely keep her eyes open. Pregnancy already drained her, and now the exhaustion was hitting hard—once she lay down, she couldn’t even move.
Before long, she drifted off.
In her dream, thick smog surrounded her, burning her eyes so badly she couldn’t open them. She reached out desperately, trying to find a way out, but no matter where she turned, it was all darkness.
She kept calling for Tristan, over and over, but there was no answer. Just as the shadows were about to swallow her whole, someone suddenly called her name.
She responded instinctively, moving toward the voice. And then—the darkness vanished. She was bathed in a flood of sunlight, surrounded by warmth, as if the sun itself had wrapped its arms around her.She stared at the tall figure of the man—so striking and graceful, like moonlight on a quiet lake.
Overwhelmed with joy, she ran to him, but just as her fingers were about to touch him, he vanished into thin air.
"Tristan!" she cried out, suddenly jolting awake.
"Had a nightmare?" Tristan moved the damp strands of hair from her forehead.
Megan gripped his hand tightly, and he helped her sit up. "What are you crying for?"
She buried her face in his chest. "I couldn’t find you in the dream, Tristan... I was terrified. I’ve never felt so scared before."
He chuckled softly, patting her back. "Babe, no matter what happens, know that I love you—always."
"You big dummy, you wasted half a month before, making both of us miserable. From now on, we’re glued together—you go to the bathroom, I go too."
"Okay, whatever you say," Tristan said with a kiss on her hair. "Not leaving you, ever."
Around noon, after lunch, Tristan and Megan packed some food and headed straight to the hospital.
As soon as Nicole Flynn saw them walk in, she tried to sit up.
Megan adjusted the pillow behind her and gently helped her lean back.
"You didn’t get proper rest before coming here?" Nicole frowned.
"I’m well-rested. Tristan’s aunt made some cream of mushroom soup and veggies—I brought them for you," Megan said as she set up the bedside table, opened the food containers, and handed Nicole a spoon. "Eat up."
"Thanks... I’m always troubling you two."
Tristan, sitting on a guest chair nearby, added, "I’ve got a place in the Xihua community. Once you’re discharged, move in. I’ll arrange for a couple of helpers too."
Nicole knew how crazy expensive property was there—over twenty million for a unit. She couldn’t accept such a big gift.
She shook her head. "Tristan, Megan, I know you guys mean well, but I really can’t accept anything else. I have some savings. After I get out, I’ll buy a small apartment and open a flower shop—live a quiet life."
Tristan gave a light smile. "If anything comes up, just tell us. Megan can help you out."
Megan glanced at him. "You too. Don’t think you can dump everything on me. I’m counting on you for life, y’know."
Nicole could hear what they weren’t saying.
Tristan probably thought he didn’t have much time left and wanted Megan to handle things on her own—but Megan clearly wanted to stay with him forever.
Nicole felt a pang in her chest. Between her and Nathaniel Cooper was a mess of hate and bad karma. Even if he was still alive, they were separated by too much pain, even having a child wouldn’t fix that.
Looking at the couple in front of her, bound by fate but struggling to be together, her heart ached for them.
After she finished the soup, Megan cleared the containers and told her they’d visit again tonight.
Nicole instantly refused—Megan was six months pregnant and clearly not getting enough rest lately.
Tristan had already hired a nanny and a caregiver, which finally put Megan’s mind at ease.
Nicole curled up under the blanket, watching them leave.
She wondered... if all the manipulations and schemes never happened, could she and Nathaniel have been just a normal, loving couple like them...
Tristan took Megan to get a 4D ultrasound.
He sat beside her, holding her hand, while the gel spread cold across her belly.
Clearing his throat, he said, "Hey, don’t stress."
