The Kind of Evil-Chapter 339: A better offer.
Rasmus arrived at Drunel Town with Aris and Rullein while Yur was in its owl form, roaming around the town. Rasmus and Aris changed their appearance like before while Rullein maintained her appearance but made herself shorter to match Rasmus and Aris.
The three of them attracted everyone’s attention because they looked like someone who came from East Neva. On the other hand, everyone was charmed by her beauty, making her look like a high-ranking noble.
Rasmus visited the merchant guild while Aris and Rullein went to a pub to have a drink. Ever since they got rid of the demons that had been following them, there was no sign of them anymore. It was both a good and a bad thing because it meant Nemu and the others were aware of the situation.
"Ah, Sir?" The receptionist lady raised her hand, waving at Rasmus.
Rasmus approached the receptionist and stood beside an adventurer who was also planning to ask for an audience with the guild master. A simple glance from Rasmus was enough to make the adventurer move aside. His height that had kept growing made everyone look so small, only a handful of people that were of the same height as him.
"Guild Master Gorge just asked me to find you. Now that you’re here, the Guild Master wants to see you," the lady said with a gentle smile on her face.
"Thank you," Rasmus nodded, and then made his way upstairs to go to Gorge’s office.
Rasmus entered the office and found Gorge standing at the window, looking out at the crowds at the entrance. When Gorge saw Rasmus, he immediately pointed his hand at the couch as he hurriedly walked toward it.
"I have conveyed the message to Viscount Heward, Count. This is the letter he entrusted me to give it to you..." Gorge said as he slid the letter on the coffee table toward Rasmus, who sat across from him.
"Did you tell who I am to the Viscount?" Rasmus asked as he grabbed the letter and opened it.
"No, I didn’t tell the Viscount about your true identity, Count, since you never told me to. I said that you were someone important from East Neva. I didn’t tell him your name, but knowing you were from the East, it was enough to make the Viscount want to see you," Gorge answered as he shook his head and pulled out a report. "I did a bit of initiative, Count. I have gathered a bit of information related to Princess Amarylis’s coming-of-age ceremony."
Rasmus glanced at the letter on the table before he stared right into Gorge’s eyes. He could see the fear and intention behind the effort that Gorge had made. He didn’t react nor reached out to the letter since he wanted to read the letter from Heward first.
"I have heard from Guild Master Gorge that you’re asking for my audience. If you’re still interested in meeting me, I will be free in my humble mansion."
Rasmus was surprised that Heward would agree to meet a complete stranger. However, it was a good sign because he knew that Heward was an opportunist, and it would make things easier for him.
The silence was unnerving for Gorge, especially when Rasmus didn’t even bother to look at the report. He didn’t know if he should have waited or if he should have taken the report back, knowing that Rasmus wouldn’t need it.
"You want something for me, tell me what do you want," Rasmus said as he grabbed the report and put it in his suit’s pocket.
Gorge’s eyes widened for a split second when he saw Rasmus take the report. He cleared his throat and regained his composure.
"An access to leave and board the ship to South Neva whenever I want, Count," Gorge said with a stern and serious expression. His gaze was pointed right into Rasmus’s eyes, his fear of the unknown made him brave enough to stare.
"You’re asking for something that even a royal family might not be able to have," Rasmus said with a cold gaze as he pulled out the report, staring at it for a moment. "Well, I won’t judge until I can confirm how useful your information is," he glanced at Gorge from the corner of his eyes.
Gorge realized he had asked for something that was so priceless. He regretted giving what seemed to be a half-assed report and information to Rasmus. He wondered if he could gather more information, more information that would be enough to threaten his own life. He slowly lowered his head, clenching onto his knees, knowing he might have disrespected the only person that stood above the law.
Rasmus read the report and saw the numbers of attendees, the list of gifts that were meant for Amaryllis, the purpose of the ceremony, and lastly the suspicious guests that Gorge marked. As a Guild Master, Gorge had access to information related to goods or items that had left and entered the Refenus Kingdom. It might seem like useless information, but Rasmus knew he could use it for something. However, his main focus was on the suspicious guests that would attend the ceremony.
"Suspicious guests, that’s an interesting finding," Rasmus said as he lifted the report to the side so he could stare at Gorge. "What makes you think they’re suspicious?" He narrowed his eyes.
"They’re not affiliated with any noble families. Of course, people would think they’re close to the royal family, but they’re not. I have lived my life with my eyes and ears wide open, I know when someone doesn’t belong in a certain corner in this nation," Gorge answered with a serious expression, confidence in what he said.
"That’s an amazing skill, but unfortunately, I hope you don’t think I would believe that, are you?" Rasmus asked with his brows raised.
"No, Count, I’m not asking you to believe me," Gorge shook his head. "But I know you can investigate it yourself whether I’m right or wrong," he continued.
"So you’re telling me to waste my time?" Rasmus asked, his gaze turned cold once again.
"Without showing any disrespect, Count. I believe what you have right now is nothing but time," Gorge answered nervously, but his eyes showed no fear.
Rasmus stared at Gorge with a stoic expression before he slowly formed a smirk on his lips. He then folded the report and put it back into his suit’s pocket as he leaned back. He once again stared at Gorge without saying a word to think of something.
"I’ll give you what you need. However, we both know that your report isn’t worth that much," Rasmus crossed his legs and put his hands on his lap. "Let me make you a better offer. I’ll give you access to go back and forth as you please, but you have to work with Eduard in the Fair Share trading company," he offered, realizing that Gorge was planning to abandon what he had here in Central Neva when the war broke.
At that moment Gorge was convinced that it was indeed Rasmus who owned the trading company that Eduard was running. He also heard about the White Flag shipping company that the Fair Share trading company was associated with. He then believed that both of them belonged to Rasmus, and that made him think, how wide the web that Rasmus had treaded and how influential he could be when he wanted to reveal his web.
"Deal," Gorge answered as he nodded, showing no doubt in his eyes.
They both shook hands, and Gorge could feel the strong grip of Rasmus that made him think he was shaking a hand-shaped solid rock.
"I’ll send someone to give you a letter that you can use whenever you want so the marines can bring you wherever you want," Rasmus said as he stood up.
"Right, thank you, Count..." Gorge bowed his head. "Are you planning to go to meet with Viscount Heward now, My Lord?" He asked, changing the way he addressed Rasmus, to be more respectful and show his loyalty.
"Yes, I’ll give him a visit," Rasmus nodded as he walked toward the door.
"He’s a cautious person even though he’s an opportunist, My Lord. I have worked for him for a few years now, and I’m sure that he has quite a connection to be able to attend the Princess’s coming-of-age ceremony because not everyone is invited," Gorge said with a serious expression. "Be careful around him, My Lord. His influence and wealth are quite unusual, to climb this high so quickly in a single generation," he added.
"I know enough about him, but thank you for the warning," Rasmus nodded as he left the office.
Gorge sighed as he rubbed his nape, still overwhelmed by everything that had just happened. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Rasmus left the merchant guild, and he noticed a commotion in the distance. He decided to take a look, and when he looked at the source of the commotion, he saw Rullein and Aris stepping their feet on a few men with their faces no longer recognizable.
"These two..." Rasmus said under his breath as he massaged his nose bridge.
