The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 152: Husband and wife (3)
Chapter 152: Husband and wife (3)
Hazel and Tobias were led to another palace garden where tables were placed for everyone to enjoy food and drinks then followed by dancing. Hazel and Tobias sat alone at a table with their families to the right and left of them.
Guests came up to them one by one to congratulate them. Something Hazel didn’t think would ever be an issue until a few bold men who started to drink had no shame and patted Tobias on the shoulder, telling him that he was in for a good night.
It was evident what newlyweds would do when night came, but was there a need to pat Tobias and make rude remarks with her present?
Hazel could only smile as she didn’t wish to argue about it. Luckily, the women only came to speak of her dress or to wish her a lifetime of happiness.
"I’ve brought some of my favourite wine to the palace in honour of your wedding and coming coronation. I hope it is to your taste. Your father has made arrangements for some of us to have a drink tonight. When you are finished, how about you join us?"
Tobias chuckled. "Why would I leave my wife to be around a bunch of old geezers? If I have to hear about my wedding night one more time, I might just kill someone."
Hazel turned to Tobias and then to the man who seemed a bit scared. Tobias was just as annoyed as she was but this was the first time he had displayed his anger to a guest. freeweɓnovel.cøm
Tobias smiled so as to not scare the man standing before him. "I was merely joking. If I have time, I might join you for a drink. Thank you for coming."
Hazel watched as the man whose name she had not heard scurried away from the table. "I fear he might pee his pants. Not that I mind for his comments. How much longer must I endure hearing of how you will have a good night? Will I not have a good night?"
Hazel was part of what was going to happen tonight. She was not some innocent lady for anyone to try convincing that it was all about Tobias feeling good.
"You will," Tobias said, taking Hazel’s hand to hold it below the table. "Don’t listen to those drunkards."
"It is not only the drunk that speaks of it. I know it is common knowledge what we shall do, but it feels like there is greater attention because of where we are. Maybe I should have something to drink to relax. I tasted during our kiss that you had something," said Hazel.
Before Hazel could misunderstand, Tobias explained, "It wasn’t because I needed it to bring myself to wed you. It was so I could put up with speaking to some of the guests. Believe me, the earlier conversations aren’t much better than they are now."
"Then I am glad that I did not have to speak to anyone this morning. I was only visited by my family and the queen. I’ve yet to see Linda or any of the Hensons. Why haven’t they come yet?" Hazel wondered, looking around the table of guests to try to spot them. "Is it possible that they could not make it?"
"They are here somewhere and will come when they are ready. You should give all your attention to me, your husband," Tobias said, propping himself up on the table to enjoy the sight of Hazel.
Hazel shook her head. "Am I going to be constantly reminded that you are my husband?"
"You know it so why ask? I’ve gotten you to become my wife. A great task I have accomplished before I am named king. I will be reminding you for the next couple of days or perhaps the rest of our lives," Tobias said, moving his hand for Hazel’s to swing with it.
Hazel smiled. "It is good that I can stomach this side of you. Again, I don’t think there is another lady in this kingdom to put up with your personality. Thank you once more for having our wedding in the palace gardens. It feels like I had some part in the planning."
"Do you think I would be able to grab a few of the flowers to take back to our room? They are too beautiful to not be decorated elsewhere," Hazel said, admiring the flowers on their table.
Tobias frowned, placing himself in a sour mood as he became jealous of the flowers. "I hope that you can admire me the same way you do the flowers. You seem to love them more."
"Hardly. You’ve managed to hold a higher place in my heart than flowers. Tobias, I lov-"
"Congratulations on your wedding," Grant said, raising his glass for the young couple.
Hazel looked away from Tobias to greet their guest. She felt a bit embarrassed that she had picked the wrong time to try telling Tobias what she felt.
’You fucking bastard,’ Tobias cursed Grant in his head. He knew what Hazel was going to say and looked forward to hearing it, but of course, someone would disturb them now.
The Henson’s came to the table as a group to congratulate Hazel and Tobias.
"It was all wonderful. You make such a beautiful bribe," Linda said as she went to Hazel’s side. "What’s wrong? You look flushed."
"It is nothing,’ Hazel whispered, trying to hide her face.
Linda didn’t believe Hazel, but she was willing to let it go for now. "I’m sorry we couldn’t come earlier for me to see you getting dressed. Grandfather was a bit behind with getting dressed and didn’t want us to come without him. I hope it didn’t upset you that I wasn’t near."
"It is fine. My mother and Helena were there with me," Hazel said, not angered by not seeing Linda much. All that mattered was that her friend was here now to enjoy this time with her. "There are plenty of men here for you to dance with. Edgar is present and should he not want to dance, Tobias spoke of his friend Rafael being here."
Linda glanced at the men of her family occupied with speaking to Tobias. "You know that with them present I shouldn’t think of dancing with a man. They will all overreact. Since I didn’t get to dance with Edgar at my grandfather’s winter party, I will give up on him. That’s a story for another day as I am here to celebrate your new wedding."
It was now Hazel noticed how drastically her life had changed as she was not aware of Linda moving on from Edgar. It would only get worse from here on after she became queen if she didn’t put aside time to meet with her family and friends.
"I shall call you to the palace soon," Hazel promised. "We must speak of what is happening with you."
Her friends and family kept her sane, something she needed to be in this palace so she wouldn’t slowly turn to be like Tabitha.
"I wish you luck for your wedding night. I’ve snuck something you will enjoy into your wedding gifts. I hope that if the gifts are checked before reaching you, no one flips the book open," Linda whispered.
Hazel palmed her face, having a good idea of what Linda might have prepared.
