The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 161: Making plans (3)
Chapter 161: Making plans (3)
"Kenneth. Son!" Grant called, greatly annoyed by Kenneth walking away from him.
Kenneth stopped, turning to his father to ask, "What is it?"
"You stormed from there like a child. Do you wish to embarrass your family?" Grant asked, resisting the need to slap Kenneth. He hadn’t used such methods to straighten out his son in a long time. "You made us look like fools."
"For stating that we should not speak of the prince taking other women on their wedding night? Yes, I made us fools," Kenneth sarcastically replied. "You need to stay away from those men. Being in the palace does not suit you."
"You have no control over me to tell me what to do. I will do as I please and be in the palace. I’ve spent countless years here-"
"As a knight," Kenneth interjected, reminding his father of his position. His father didn’t need to get so caught up in matters of the court or the king’s marriage. They were just here to protect the kingdom and doing so didn’t mean getting caught up in palace affairs.
They were to come, learn of enemies, and go kill them.
"Do not interrupt me. I have raised you to be better than that," Grant argued. Kenneth was a great disappointment right now, but Grant blamed his wife for not raising Kenneth better.
Kenneth would be the perfect son if he would follow Grant’s lead. See the future that awaited them if they made use of Linda.
Kenneth paced back and forth, trying to keep his anger at bay. It was small things he noticed about his father’s interest in the court that he didn’t like. If his father wanted to help with court affairs, fine. The court could always use an extra hand, but Kenneth didn’t want his father getting too friendly with some of the men.
"Never join them in mentioning the prince having women. Even if it is because you want to help put an end to someone else speaking of it. It can be twisted and you are pointed to as the person proposing it," said Kenneth.
"You are getting riled up over nothing. It was to be a simple discussion," Grant responded.
"You opened the door for others to speak of which women could enter the palace. I know you are not a fool to have missed how they were so ready to jump on that chance. It is Hazel’s wedding day. Though you were concerned, now is not the time," Kenneth explained.
There were a few things Kenneth noticed or overheard since his arrival that he disliked, but to not spoil the day, he kept quiet and was planning to deal with those matters the day after. freēwēbnovel.com
Nothing stayed a secret for long in the palace so anything said would eventually reach Hazel or Tobias. It was why Kenneth kept his mouth shut and was going to take care of matters alone to not concern the two.
"You are angry over nothing. I will tell the men not to say a word about it," Grant replied, over Kenneth’s outburst.
"How will you get them to be quiet? Are they your followers?" Kenneth questioned, curious about his father’s status in the palace.
Grant fixed his coat as he stared at Kenneth. "Are you accusing me of something?"
"I was asking a simple question. We both know that many of the men in court don’t care about the king or the kingdom. They only care about what shall benefit them. You have been to the palace a lot. My loyalty lies to the king and Hazel is like a daughter to me," Kenneth said in case his father forgot. "I will march to remove those trying to harm either one."
"I have no plans of harming Hazel. I have watched the child grow beside Linda. Don’t you think you’re a little hard on me over a small matter? I made the mistake of bringing it up then and you speak to me as if I had plans of telling the king to give his son to other women. What have I done to have you threatening me?" Grant asked.
Grant couldn’t recall showing any of his plans to Kenneth other than letting his disappointment over Linda not trying hard in the selection. Kenneth only knew he was frequenting the palace because he had been bringing Linda to it so she could speak with Hazel.
What had Kenneth noticed?
"I might be getting a little worked up but it is only from not wanting the day to be ruined. I apologise for my threat, but it still stands as what shall happen to anyone trying to harm them. Warn your new friends. I must take my leave to see my family," Kenneth said, turning to leave.
Kenneth realised that he had gotten upset over a small matter than he should have, but he still wanted to leave. He could only be around these men for so long before something else would annoy him.
One had already made remarks about Tobias enjoying his night and since Hazel was no different than Linda, Kenneth could not stand to listen to them. It was brought up how rude Nathan was for not drinking with them to celebrate Hazel’s marriage but who could blame him?
’I should make a stop to drink with him,’ Kenneth thought, knowing Nathan could do with a drink from a man actually wanted to celebrate.
Drinking with Nathan would be better than the men here and Kenneth had to give him a warning about others already wanting Tobias to take women. Hazel should hear from one of her parents that she should have a child to secure her position in the palace. Coming from Kenneth would be a little awkward.
"Oh." Kenneth stopped as there was one more thing he had to share before leaving. "Don’t ever think of putting Linda to be one of those women lining up. She has no plans of marrying right now and I will not let her settle as a mistress."
Though Linda spoke of looking for a husband recently, Kenneth learned from his wife that was due to Linda feeling like she had let the family down from not doing well in the selection. Grant’s disappointment had started to get to Linda’s head.
Grant ignored Kenneth’s tone just this once. "You’ve painted some ugly portrait of me in your head. I also want Linda to wait a little before getting married. Let her take her time in finding a man deserving of her. When you are back to not treating me as if I am the enemy, you know where to find me."
Grant could no longer stand and be threatened by his son. Kenneth needed some time to cool off and get rid of his current thoughts so it was time for them to part. "I am not a hand you should ever try to bite. Remember that, son."
