The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 168: Disturbed (3)
Chapter 168: Disturbed (3)
"What am I to do now?" Hazel wondered then placed the last grape in her mouth.
She had eaten what was left in the basket from their earlier picnic and drank all the juice. It wasn’t that she was hungry or thirsty, but she was bored and in need of something to do. After putting down the book, she started to pick at the food and ended up eating it all before she realised.
It was over three hours since Tobias left her alone and each passing minute went by slower than normal.
Hazel sat by a window, watching the guards walk by in the distance or the stable boys lead the horses around for a walk. There was much to see as she sat alone, but she still wished for Tobias to return.
Not just to end her boredom but because she imagined that Tobias was fuming at the moment. She had encouraged him to go give his condolences, but she didn’t think it would take this long. It would have been best if she went with him.
"Should I ask someone to bring food for us? He will be hungry when he returns," said Hazel.
Since Tobias’s return time was unknown, Mary should come.
Hazel stood up from the window to leave to find someone to send for Mary. Mary must be just as bored as she was as Mary had no other job to do when she was not serving Hazel. Hazel couldn’t recall Mary making friends with the other maids around her. Only those who worked in the kitchen and since the cooks might be busy, Mary should be here.
Hazel went to the front door and opened it to step outside. She shielded her face from the scorching sun with her hands as she made her way out. "Hello," she called to a guard. "Do you know where the prince is now?"
"Princess Hazel," the guards greeted her first. "I have heard that the prince is out of the palace in the court. Do you need an escort there?"
"No," Hazel declined the offer. "Do you know anything about the incident which requires him to be in court?"
"It is going around that a noble family died in a carriage accident. That is all being shared at the moment. It is what is being said by the maids so my words might not be true."
"I understand," Hazel replied. Of course, the maids would have overheard something and already be sharing it. "If you don’t mind, I need to have my maid come here. Would you be able to pass this on to a maid or a head maid that my maid Mary must come here? Along with having food sent here."
"Of course, Princess Hazel."
’Princess,’ Hazel repeated in her head, finding the title to be strange. To think she was a princess for three days and then she would be queen.
Hazel watched as the guard hurried away to do what she requested. Instead of going back inside, Hazel remained outside to enjoy the fresh air, ignoring the sun that was strangely against her.
If she could live here with Tobias and only go inside the palace when they were needed, her time here might be better.
Hazel began to walk around outside as she had grown tired of inside. Though this mansion was built for the wrong reason, Hazel could not deny that it was beautiful. Not more than five steps away from where she spoke to the guard, Hazel noticed that other guards were following her.
"Right," she sighed, remembering that she was not a normal person anywhere to causally roam around.
As the future queen, there would always be someone nearby to protect her. Hazel gave up on the walk saving it for something to do with Tobias and turned around to go back inside.
After she closed the door, Hazel leaned on it, looking ahead for what she should do as she continued to wait. "I need to find more hobbies for when this happens," Hazel said out loud. "If I had the book I started to read, this would not be boring."
Hazel didn’t have any of the things she would normally pass time with so she was left bored.
Before Hazel could move to stop leaning on the door, it opened, causing her to fall back.
"Got you," Tobias said, catching her.
Hazel was both shocked by her almost falling and by Tobias holding her. "How? I was just outside and did not see you coming.."
"You were walking like you were lost in thought. I didn’t think you were still by the door. Sorry," he apologised for almost causing her to hurt herself.
Tobias helped Hazel to get back on her feet first. "You were walking looking to the ground. I apologise for being gone so long. I had to witness the son receive his father’s title and there were other things to overlook. Are you angry?"
"No." Hazel shook her head. Her boredom was forgotten now that Tobias was back. "You went to do your duty."
"I gave them a nice lecture on why not to call on me again," Tobias said, innocently smiling after.
"You threatened them," said Hazel. He could not fool her.
"I was nice with my words. If they took it on a threat, that is on them. Do you want to walk around?" Tobias asked as he had witnessed her walk come to a quick end.
"No. You must come inside," Hazel said, grabbing his right hand to pull him inside. Hazel closed the door and locked it so they wouldn’t be disturbed. "I have a promise to keep for when you return. I did ask a guard to bring Mary here with food. Should I send another to stop her from coming?"
"No. I don’t mind her being here. She is far from like the other maids you have. They all look like they would tell on me to my mother," said Tobias.
"Then we must be fast before she arrives," Hazel said, leading him by the hand she was still holding to the bedroom she discovered. "What are you doing?" She asked since he didn’t budge.
"Fast," Tobias chuckled, humoured by it. "There will be no fast. Now that you are used to it, I shall have you as I want. As you would like and it shall not be fast. Take the food when it arrives and then send her away if you do not want to have her blush."
Tobias looked around the inside. "It is quite large enough to have her down here and not hear us. You shall decide. That blush looks good on you, Hazel. Maybe we shouldn’t send her away as we will spend hours in bed and need someone to go for dinner. I will give you a moment to prepare yourself for what is to come."
