The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 180: The beginning (2)
Chapter 180: The beginning (2)
"Queen Hazel. It is an honour to be the doctor picked to aid you," said Arlo Little, a palace doctor. "I am Arlo Little. I was taken into the palace more than five years ago."
When Hazel was pulled to the side to speak to someone she was told was important she wasn’t expecting it to be a doctor. "It is nice to meet you, Arlo. Forgive me for being a little confused as I was not told that I would be meeting with a doctor. I am not sick. Do I appear to be?"
"No, Your Majesty. I am the doctor who shall look after you as you try to have your first child. I have mixes that should help make you healthier and be good for the unborn child. It is my special work and it is an honour to now be helping the queen," said Arlo.
’A child again,’ Hazel thought.
It was still the coronation day and all she heard of was about a child. Many had stopped congratulating her on the achievement of getting the seat of the queen and kept speaking about a child. It should have been obvious before that her greatest duty as queen was to birth heirs.
There was no need for the doctor to come to her now when there were still guests present for anyone to see who her doctor would be. There was an hour left before the last of the guests were meant to be out of the palace. This could have waited.
"I will call upon you later to discuss what will be your duty," Hazel said, ending it now before many could see the doctor.
"I will be by your door after dinner to give you the first tonic," said Arlo.
"Tonic?"
"A mix I put together to help women become with child. You should take it in the morning and before going to bed. It would also be best that you drink it before you lay with the king. I’ve already received the days you are expected to go to the king’s room-"
"Enough!" Hazel ordered, at her limit from now hearing about a child and now a tonic. "This is not to be discussed now when I have guests to entertain. I expect the person who sent you to me now to be present when I call upon you."
"Yes, Your Majesty," Arlo replied, bowing his head slightly as he prepared to leave. He was only doing as he was told to let the queen know there would be someone to take care of her and the child she would have.
Arlo prided himself as the best at doing this which was why it came as no surprise that he was picked. The queen should be glad to not get one of his peers because their methods were a bit more harmful to the queen in the beginning.
There was one doctor who thought it was best to get the king’s seed and use a tool he made to get the queen pregnant.
Hazel watched as the doctor left her side. She was about to forget that this day was all about a coronation after hearing about a baby so often. It was like everyone had the same thought to wait until she became queen to start asking about children.
No one spoke of children after she got married.
Hazel thought the palace was making it hard for her to get a child as they were putting so much pressure on her. She should have been relaxed during this time but it was suffocating already and it was not a week that had gone by since she was married.
"Hazel," Tobias said, returning to her side. He was finally able to get away from the men who pulled him to the side to speak about his plans. "Why do you look sad? Who troubled you?"
"Would you believe that it is a child making me feel so annoyed?" Hazel asked.
"A child? Whoever it is, I can imprison them too. The dungeon doesn’t exactly have an age limit for who I can toss in there. Good to see you smiling," Tobias said as her frown quickly changed to a smile.
"It is about our child. Well, our future child. All everyone has to speak to me about is a child. I am not being questioned about what I look forward to doing as a queen. Not even about the gatherings I will host. It is about having a boy soon," Hazel said, venting to Tobias before the anger could grow.
"I’ll apologise on their behalf and cut their tongues out for you. Why are you laughing when I am serious?" Tobias questioned. There was a sharp knife in the dungeon that he liked to place the blade in a fire before removing someone’s tongue.
"I’m sorry but seeing you threaten to hurt someone is funny. A doctor came to me to help me with getting pregnant. There is something I need to drink and I have a feeling that it will be horrible. I have a secret to share," Hazel said, holding Tobias’s hands. "I used to throw away bad-tasting medicines when my mother wasn’t looking."
Tobias folded his lips to not laugh at how bad of a child Hazel was. It was so innocent yet she looked at him like she had done the worst thing in the world.
"It is not funny. It is a habit I am trying to stop now. It would be foolish for the queen to be throwing away medicine. I have to take it at breakfast, dinner, and before we sleep together. How could I be in the mood to touch you after drinking something like that?" Hazel questioned, watching Tobias frown. "That part is what upsets you?"
"If it is going to ruin our intimacy, I will end it but I can say that not all the doctors in the palace are bad. Some of you have done wonders and wish to help you. I will limit it to one time you must take it and I will drink it with you," Tobias promised.
His body should also be healthy as the doctors were claiming Hazel’s needed to be.
"Very well," Hazel agreed only because Tobias was going to suffer with her. "Do you love me enough to drink mine in secret if it does not taste good?"
"I love you enough to pour it out the window," Tobias replied.
"I don’t mind that," Hazel answered, her mood changing thanks to Tobias. "Stay close to me from now on. If anyone else comes to speak about children, give them a crazy look like you would strangle them."
