The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 63: Far from over (1)
Chapter 63: Far from over (1)
"Helena, you need to calm down so we can figure this out. You’ve yet to tell us what the queen said. Please," Renee said, gently rubbing Helena’s back to comfort her.
When Renee received the letter late in the night that she was to come to the palace in the morning along with her husband, Renee thought something had happened to her daughters. She tossed and turned all night as she thought about what it could be. There were times she had to be talked out of coming to the palace ahead of time to see what was wrong.
Renee never thought she would hear of Helena having to exit the selection. The explanation was that the queen wanted to have only one daughter present, but Renee knew there was something more.
Why wait for Helena to enter the palace to then send her out of the selection? What had happened with her daughters?
"Listen to your mother and tell us from the beginning what happened. If I hear you speak ill of your sister again-"
"I do not want to speak about Hazel. Right now I just want to be comforted over what happened to me. I am the one sent of the selection and all you have been asking is about Hazel who chose to stay behind to enjoy her time with the prince. I was a fool to not dig any deeper about her relationship with the prince," said Helena. freewebnøvel.com
"It was always unfair that you only allowed Helena to enter the palace when she was younger. She made friends with the right people and met the prince then. You made it easy for her to be here," Helena said, unintentionally raising her voice as she spoke.
The maids were sent outside when she arrived so it was only Helena, Renee, and Nathan. Renee was yet to get the story of what caused the queen to have a sudden change in heart to pull Helena from the selection.
This angered Renee because her daughter had gotten so prepared for this. They had given Helena the extra lessons she needed for this moment and she had watched her daughter be excited from the moment the invitation was sent.
Unless something drastic had happened, Renee could not let this go. It was unlike Hazel to not be near Helena right now so Renee asked about Hazel which led to Helena thinking her mother did not care about her. That they cared for the daughter who had the better chance of becoming queen.
"Your sister was the one more interested in coming to the palace with your father when you were younger. You wanted to stay home with me. I wasn’t thinking then that Hazel coming here would lead to her becoming queen in the future. Helena," Renee said, placing her hand on Helena’s shoulder. "I ask for your sister because we are still in the dark about what is happening."
"Fine," Helena said, deciding to tell her parents about her former sister. "Rather than come to see how I was during this embarrassing moment, Hazel has chosen to stay behind with the prince and queen. She was present when I was told that I would no longer compete for the spot of queen. She is not like we know her to be."
Renee didn’t believe that Hazel was as Helena painted her to be. She knew that this was jealousy speaking so she had to tread carefully so Helena wouldn’t think they were picking sides.
Renee feared this happening. For her daughters to not come out of this with the same sweet relationship they had for many years. She would have preferred if the palace had just gone with Hazel from the beginning as she wanted so it wouldn’t come to this. This was embarrassing for Helena after all the talk about her dancing with Tobias.
If there was not so much pressure that you had to say yes to sending your daughter, Renee would have held Helena back to save her from this.
Renee sighed, touching her forehead as she tried to think what she could do for Helena. She wanted to yell at everyone who had a part in sending Helena home when it was already three days into the selection, but she didn’t want to make a scene that would affect Hazel.
What Renee wanted first before she did anything she regretted was a proper explanation for what was happening. Not one the palace gave to make it seem like they were truly thinking of Helena. Helena was too upset with Hazel more than anyone to give a proper account of what happened.
"I am going to find someone who can tell me what is happening with my daughters," Renee said, marching to the door to get her answers.
Nathan was quick to block her path. "That is something you cannot do."
"Then you do it," Renee proposed. He was the one with all the connections therefore he should be the one to find someone to get some answers. If he didn’t she would take the risk to go find them herself by using her last name and her former last name.
Helena was all for her mother going to find the queen and convince her to take her back into the selection. Her mother could surely convince the queen that nothing would happen with the relationship she had with Hazel although Helena had already made up her mind to act as if she didn’t have a sister.
If Hazel cared for her, she would have shown it by walking out with her or telling the queen that their relationship was fine so there was no need for one of them to be sent out of the selection.
Helena had noticed it in the past, but now she saw clearly how Hazel was more interested in speaking up for Linda and not her blood sister.
"We are not going marching off anywhere when Helena is here to tell us the truth. I’m just as angry as you are with what they are doing to my daughter, but if there is anyone to get answers from, it is her," Nathan said, looking over Renee at Helena.
Helena was all over with the explanation by shifting blame to them for not letting her come into the palace when she was younger or blaming Hazel for reasons Nathan was yet to understand.
Nathan would love nothing more than to go back to when the only weddings his daughters were interested in concerned their dolls.
A knock on the door disturbed the silence that had come upon the trio.
"Announcing the Queen, Tabitha Castro."
Renee and Nathan looked at each other while Helena’s mood drastically changed.
Of course, the queen had realised what a great mistake it was to take her out of the selection. Helena could forget about all the tears she shed and the anger she felt as long as she was back in the selection.
The door was opened for Tabitha by one of the maids outside. Her eyes instantly went to Helena who was more put together than she imagined. Tabitha was prepared to walk into a room with Helena crying her eyes out.
"Forgive me for not being here to greet you in a situation such as this. I was kept back speaking to my son. I would love to talk with all three of you. Please take a seat," Tabitha said, walking further into the room to find her seat.
