The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 66: Far from over (4)
Chapter 66: Far from over (4)
"Life isn’t fair. I’ve said it many times and now you’ve experienced it. You have to let the prince go and not try to pin this all on Hazel. I am still in the dark about many things, but I do know that you must let go of this dream you have to become queen. There are other men-" freёnovelkiss.com
"I do not want other men," Helena argued. She wanted the prince so that she would become queen. "You’ve told me that I would make an excellent queen."
"Because I am your mother and I supported what you wanted. Should you have been picked to be his wife, I thought you would make a good queen. Your behaviour now leads me to think otherwise. You are acting like a child. I thought you had long grown out of this and now I wish to take back letting you stay here," said Renee.
Helena was of age to marry but she still had some growing up to do. Renee could already see Helena’s future husband tired of Helena over her childish temper tantrums.
"I am not going home. You-"
"Do not raise your voice at your mother,’ Nathan said, coming to stand in between the two. "We are not at home and even then, you know better than to raise your voice at your mother. What we say is final. What chance could you possibly have with the prince when the queen herself has come to tell us that you are out?"
Helena balled up her fist. "Everyone has said that no one is set to become queen until their name is announced at the end. You have all complimented me for sharing a dance with him and filled my head with hope that I might be queen."
"It was a dance," Nathan said, tired of hearing about it. "We’ve praised you, but also reminded you not to think of yourself as queen then. The prince was bound to get to know others. It sounds like he is quite fond of Hazel. Your sister in case you have forgotten. You should cheer for her as she would with you."
"How do you expect me to cheer for anyone who is where I wish to be? I was the one excited to come into the palace to fall in love with the prince while Hazel questioned if she wanted to do this. I put my all into this while Hazel was uncertain and in the end, she gets something she doesn’t want. I was finally out of her shadow-"
"Enough of this," Renee said, not wanting to hear anymore since her mind was made up. "You will do as the queen said and forget about the prince. There is nothing any of us can do for you. Your father and I can’t get the queen to put you back in the selection and no one can get the prince to stop liking your sister."
"If you push your way back into the selection, you will end up hurt. I know it hurts now to be sent away before it comes to an end, but trust me it will hurt more if you chase after someone who has eyes for someone else. It’s best to move on and find your happiness elsewhere," Renee said, hoping her words would get through to Helena.
She didn’t want to see either one of her daughters hurt. They would both end up hurt if Helena continued with this childish jealousy over a man she had known for three days.
"What your mother says is final. You will give up on the prince if you want to stay. I expect the attitude you have when you speak of your sister to be gone by the time we leave this room. You know your sister. I will not allow you to bear some ill feeling toward her for getting the prince. We will all be going home if you do not know how to behave," said Nathan.
He would not allow Helena to embarrass the family because she wasn’t getting her way. Nathan almost didn’t recognise the young woman standing before him because Helena was never this way. She would have gracefully admitted defeat and started to root for Hazel. It was what he witnessed throughout the years of raising his daughters.
Nathan and Renee raised them both to stand beside each other. Helena was raised to know better than to turn your back on family. He was not going to sit by and allow Helena to become one of the spoiled young women who would turn on friends and even family to get ahead.
"You are coming home with us," Nathan said, changing his mind.
Helena believed herself to be the one meant to be queen and was clearly not going to give up on the prince anytime soon. Helena was already out of the selection. Nathan didn’t trust leaving her in the palace to have her ruin Hazel’s time.
The queen’s plans were the best way for Helena to save face, but Nathan knew she wasn’t grown enough to see where her actions were leading her.
Renee sighed. She wished it wouldn’t come to this, but Helena was making it hard. There were only two options which were for Helena to give up on the prince and stay or return home. Helena was trying to throw in a third option which would not be possible. The option of still trying to fight for the prince.
They would need to come up with another way to help Helena avoid becoming the talk of the town.
"Father!" Helena yelled with tears filling her eyes. "I cannot go home. They will all speak poorly of me. You’ve already promised the queen."
"And I can take my word back by going to the king. We have already told you to give up on the prince. There is nothing for you in the selection. You will not be queen and right now, I am happy that it will never come to that. There is a way for a queen to act and you are far from acting like it. Excuse me," Nathan said, walking to the door to leave to find the king.
"Father!" Helena called after him. "I will give up on the prince. Please let me stay here. They will all talk if I go home. Mother please," she cried, turning to her mother for help.
"Nathan," Renee said, hugging Helena who was now crying her eyes out. "Let us finish our conversation and then decide if we should go to the king. We must be certain about what we will do because we have already given the queen an answer."
Nathan’s right hand was already on the doorknob, ready to turn it to leave, but he stood still. "I am warning you, Helena. Do not be foolish and do something stupid if you are to remain in this palace. This is not our home where you can be in control. The palace is not a place to play around."
Nathan let go of the door, agreeing to have another talk with Helena. Her cries hurt him and had him close to rushing to her to comfort her. He was always weak whenever his daughters cried. "Listen carefully, Helena. Should you let your foolish jealousy get in your sister’s way or embarrass this family, I will send you off to live with your aunt and you will not step foot in Lockwood again."
"Now," Nathan said, turning around to face his wife and child. "Let me hear you say it once more that you will let go of the prince and promise not to get in your sister’s way. Go on."
"I promise to let go of the prince," Helena slowly spoke, letting the words she didn’t agree with come out of her mouth.
