The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 72: Feel something (2)
Chapter 72: Feel something (2)
"So many hearts would be broken if women knew how weird the prince is. I am not signing anything for you so cherish the compliment as it is. If you continue to look good, I will compliment you," said Hazel.
"Then you owe me many compliments because I have looked good each time you saw me. Does my confidence annoy you?" Tobias questioned as Hazel shook her head after.
"No. Surprisingly it doesn’t come off too cocky to annoy me. You look extra dashing tonight. That is why you got the compliment," Hazel said, explaining it further so he wouldn’t expect a compliment each time they crossed paths.
"I didn’t take you for the type to love seeing me dressing up more as the prince. I wonder if you are also like the others to have weird fantasies. The ones where I wear my crown, these clothes, and come save you with my sword pointed to the sky. Don’t look at me like that Hazel," Tobias said, folding his lips to refrain from laughing at her expression.
"You are jesting that women have those kinds of thoughts or dreams for you and told you. I hope you are jesting," Hazel said, mentally praying for the future of the kingdom.
"They do. See, my family receives a lot of letters from all over the kingdom and sometimes I might get bored and look at a few. It could be very detailed stories of how they could make me happy in bed as my wife or sometimes I get little treats. A stocking or two. Care to see?" Tobias offered.
Hazel stepped to the left to get away from Tobias. "Why do you still have them?"
Tobias chuckled. "I meant if you care to open a few letters with me. I don’t keep those awful things. I don’t know where they’ve been and I am not some creep deprived of women that I would go touching or smelling something sent to me. What do you take me for?"
"It is good to know. I am curious about what is sent to you, but I fear what I will see and how hard it might be to remove it from my memories. You don’t have to give a name but is there anyone to send you a letter and approach you in person about it?" Hazel questioned.
"Sophia," Tobias answered, leaving out the last name on purpose. "I’ve never been more harassed."
"Sophia," Hazel muttered the name, trying to guess who it could be.
"Next time it happens you must be around to save me, Hazel. It wouldn’t exactly be a good look for me to push away a woman coming onto me then she falls and cries wolf. I can’t deal with that again," said Tobias.
The court wanted to pay the young woman to let the matter go even though she was in the wrong, but Jeffrey put out a statement about her actions. Tobias never wanted to be sitting before the court explaining that he was defending himself while some believed something more happened with the woman.
"I find myself pitying you more and more," Hazel said, drawing close to him again.
"You mean to tell me that all I have to do is share my pitiful stories with you and you will get closer to me? There was a time when my foolish friends pushed me from a rock. Or the time-"
Hazel touched Tobias’s arm to get him to stop. "That won’t work on me, Your Highness."
Tobias sighed, tilting his head back to look at the sky. "I thought you were always one to listen, Hazel. I told you when we are alone, you can address me as Tobias. I need a break from hearing Prince Tobias or Your Highness."
"I fear I might get in trouble if I don’t address you as I should. You are the one to say there is always someone lurking in the darkness. If we were caught, I don’t want you to face the queen to protect me," Hazel replied.
"Then, leave calling me by my name when you want to tell me something important," Tobias said so Hazel could be comfortable. "Are the flowers still doing well? I don’t know how long they last after they are picked."
"Yes. They can last over a week if I properly care for them. I am secretly plotting to dig up a flower when no one is looking and put it in my things to take home to plant," Hazel said, laughing at her ridiculous plans.
"Why must you do that? I see," Tobias said, realising what was going on with Hazel after giving it some thought. "You fail to realise that one day these gardens will be yours. Why steal one flower when they will all belong to you? You don’t think you’ll be queen, do you?"
"I’m sorry. I’ve just heard over and over again not to get my hopes up until my name is called at the end. I have read many books to know that there is always a twist," Hazel answered, a chill coming over her body which she knew wasn’t from the cold.
She felt something strange after hearing him claim that the gardens would belong to her.
"Come here," Tobias said, holding Hazel’s hand to lead her off to the garden with a maze so they would be out of sight from the guards and whoever his mother would have ordered to follow them.
Hazel followed Tobias without questioning why they were suddenly rushing. Wasn’t this supposed to be a nice stroll for him to take her to see a special garden?
Tobias led Hazel through the maze he knew at the back of his hand. He heard footsteps behind them which likely belonged to the guards who were rushing to find them. He had to be quick with what he wanted to do.
Tobias pulled Hazel to a dark corner and blocked her body as he listened to the guards run by them. Some of the guards would end up getting lost and need to call out for help. He’d send someone in to save them once he was finished enjoying his time with Hazel.
Hazel looked up at Tobias, admiring his features, but once again she was quick to look away so she wouldn’t be rude by staring. She turned to the side, putting her hands behind her to feel for what was behind her.
Her fingers touched the leaves of the tall bush behind her. Hazel wished there was a wall behind her so she could lean back on it to get away from Tobias. Being this close, she could smell him. She wanted to kick herself for liking the manly scent that came from him. It was different in contrast to the flower scent she used when she bathed.
"They’re gone for now," Tobias said, turning his attention back to Hazel. He looked down at her and found Hazel staring at the bush like they were the most interesting thing at the moment. "You have a shy side."
"I am hiding in a corner with the prince pressed against me. How can I not be shy?" Hazel questioned.
"You are right. I’d be a little offended if you were perfectly calm at this moment and did not feel something for me. Do you?" Tobias inquired, wanting to hear what was on her mind.
