The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 74: Holding hands (1)
Chapter 74: Holding hands (1)
"Prince Tobias-"
"Don’t look so nervous. Hazel here thought she could beat me to getting out of the maze first and ended up losing. It won’t happen again. Will it?" Tobias questioned, looking down at Hazel.
They were out of the maze and the guards stood before them so he had to be quick with an excuse.
"It won’t. I underestimated how much time the prince had spent in the maze. I was hoping to run into a few guards to help me out, but it seemed that you were also lost," Hazel said, going along with the lie.
The guards inspected Hazel and Tobias’s appearance to find any part of their clothing out of place. They were given strict orders to keep a watchful eye on the pair.
Nothing appeared to be out of place so the guards excused themselves and went back to their earlier positions. If the prince and Hazel were going to attempt to run through the maze again, they would be ready.
A few of the guards had stayed in the maze in case it were to happen again.
"You are quite the troublemaker. That must be why it comes naturally for you to find a way to get out of trouble. How many times have you run through the maze to get away from the guards or someone following you?" Hazel asked.
"I’ve lost track at this point. Sometimes the maze is changed around. They let the bushes grow out and make new paths or block paths with benches. There is a map stored in a room for anyone who gets lost wandering around in there. We could have enjoyed ourselves there a little longer," Tobias said, regretting that he brought her out early.
He only came out of the maze to avoid anyone talking about him disappearing in the maze with Hazel for a long time.
"It would have been fun for me to run into a maze to lose someone. About what you said before, it would be nice if I could have feelings for you if we were to wed, but it worries me that there are only four days left. You don’t need to try hard to make me like you. I can see myself living with you," said Hazel, honest with her confession.
"Please forget this quickly. There have been a few times when I stared at you and had to snap out of it. That embarrassing feeling afterwards must come from me liking you that way," Hazel said, stopping here as she didn’t want to go into further detail. "Can we not try to find what each other likes during the time we might be engaged?"
"That won’t be possible unless you are willing to sneak around with me. They’ll be keeping us on opposite sides of the palace so there is no royal baby announced before the wedding happens and even after that we won’t be sharing a room for a few weeks. Only when they pick days for us to try for a prince," Tobias explained, enjoying the horrified expression Hazel wore.
"Before marriage, I can understand, but regular couples share beds from the night they wed. The palace gets stranger day by day. Forgive me, but sometimes I think that I am not suited for here," Hazel said, scared of the many rules. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
"Don’t. If I were not the crown prince, I would have long left this place. They follow many old traditions that need to be gotten rid of. If you are ever planning to run far away from Lockwood, please take me with you. I could use another break from this place," said Tobias.
"I will try my best to get you out of here if I ever try to run away. If you could leave, where would you go? What is your dream place to live?" Hazel inquired, wanting to learn more about him. Tobias kept on surprising her.
"Somewhere that isn’t part of the Castro kingdom. I don’t care if it is far away and I have to take a long trip over the sea to get there. I just want somewhere that is peaceful and I could be alone. Now, I would take you with me, but it wouldn’t be fair to take you from your family. Here," Tobias said, offering his hand to help her go down a step.
"I couldn’t imagine not being around my family again, but there are days when I do enjoy being alone. Finding a nice quiet corner to read a book-"
"Or look out at a garden," Tobias finished for her.
Hazel smiled, finding it funny how he thought she was obsessed with gardens. "Flowers are not all that I like. When I am at home, I don’t spend most of my time in our garden. I am either reading a book, playing a few games, or I leave to visit Linda. I would have liked to do gardening but my mother said flower arranging was more suitable for me."
"Lucky for you, I wouldn’t be against you coming to the garden to make it pretty yourself. You’ll shock the court and have them losing their minds. Something I would enjoy. By then my mother will be out of the palace so you wouldn’t need to worry about her," Tobias said, patiently awaiting that time.
"Did you share with the queen that you have feelings for me and want to wed me? The way she looked at me today feels...different," Hazel picked, feeling like ti was the best word to use. She didn’t want to go too deep into what she felt the queen’s stare was like with Tobias.
This was still Tobias’s mother.
Tobias noticed it too, but he was not quick to fall for his mother’s games. She might get close to Hazel and allow what he wanted so they would be close again, but then when he least expected it, his mother would go back to being controlling.
It was bound to happen with the court starting to question the selection and what his mother was doing.
"Don’t think about it too much. The stress of finding a woman to become queen is getting to my mother. She’s not herself these days and once the selection is over, you will come to like her. I’ve been a bit hard on her these days," Tobias confessed.
Tabitha had turned controlling, but there was a lot of pressure on her to help him find a good queen. Having to listen to men in court who were never satisfied was not something easy to put up with.
"You should do something nice for your mother or get her something she likes. Whenever I am at odds with my mother, I ask her to go for a walk with me or I try to make her a snack. We end up laughing because I am a terrible cook. Will there be time for you to sit alone with your mother?" Hazel asked, hoping there was so the two could fix whatever was affecting their relationship.
"Hardly. These days I only see her when I have to be doing my part in the selection. Enough about my mother," Tobias said, going behind Hazel to cover her eyes with his hands. "It’s time for a surprise."
