The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 79: Future plans (1)
Chapter 79: Future plans (1)
"What is making you smile like an idiot? If it’s some shit that concerns my life, I am going to kill you," Edgar said as he had with enough of Tobias’s games.
Edgar was dumbfounded that a stupid comment didn’t come out of Tobias’s mouth and he was staring out the window like an idiot. It was evident that the rumours were true. Tobias had fallen in love.
Edgar didn’t think much of the rumour as they were hardly truthful and he knew Tobias. He had made a bet with his butler that the selection would need to be extended because Tobias would not fall in love.
"You idiot," Edgar muttered as his friend was costing him money. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Tobias snapped out of the good thoughts he had and looked to his right at Edgar who wasn’t happy, but there was nothing new about that. "What?"
"It is a surprise to see the rumours might be true for once. That the crown prince is happily in love with Hazel Wallace. You picked her every day and tomorrow, it’s already predicted she will be staying in the palace to become queen. Truly, I thought if you liked her, you wouldn’t pick her," Edgar said.
"What sense does that make Edgar?" Tobias asked as from the beginning he planned to pick someone he liked.
"Because she’ll be stuck here in the palace. You don’t want to be here. You don’t want to be king," Edgar reminded Tobias. "I thought you would be so afraid that you would send her out of the palace."
Tobias stared at Edgar, gaining a new fear now that he was told this. It was true that he wanted out of the palace, but he was planning on bringing Hazel here. "Did you need to mention that now? On the last day of the selection when I am going to be picking her and doing something grand?"
"Better now than never," Edgar replied, taking a sip of the wine from the glass he was holding. "I unfortunately had to listen in the past to you saying that you would never want to make a family here. Just consider if you want to bring her here where there is always so much plotting."
"Fuck," Tobias muttered as now he was worried about something that hadn’t crossed his mind. He had been spending so much time with Hazel that he stopped thinking of not wanting to be in the palace and thought about what it would be like to have Hazel here. "Since when do you think about these things?"
"Since you’ll be coming to me with your problems and I don’t have time for it. Figure it out now if you want her to suffer all the bullshit in here or you love her to let her be happy somewhere. All of these bastards are heavily invested in your marriage," Edgar said, looking around at the men from the court.
The king had invited men from all around the town to have a talk with them and they were still in the throne room having drinks. Tobias and Edgar had long made their way to a corner to get away from anyone asking foolish questions about their life.
The men from the court and other noblemen were staying close to the king as they did every time they all gathered.
"I wish you had brought that up in the beginning because now I’ve reached the point that I don’t want to let her go. I’ll apologise to her one day for bringing her here," Tobias said as Hazel was bound to have a moment where she hated this place. "I’ve been honest with all that she asked me.:
’Then it should be fine. Now, help me find a way out of here. I am tired of hearing his laughter," Edgar said, speaking of his father. It was only because the king invited him that he was here.
"When you come to the palace in the future you won’t have to see him. He’s stepping away from the court so a new position is opening up. As soon as you find a way out, tell me so I can join you," said Tobias.
"Shouldn’t you go have a word with your father-in-law?" Edgar asked, looking at Nathan Wallace who was right next to the king today. "As I remember, Hazel is quite close to her father."
"I want to, but I go near him and it looks like he wants to kill me," Tobias said, staying put.
"All the more reason for you to go over there," Edgar said.
While Tobias and Edgar continued to remain in the corner, Grant Henson watched from the sidelines as Nathan was getting closer to the king.
Jeffrey and Nathan weren’t hiding that Hazel would become the next queen.
"That should be you right next to the king, Grant," said Franklin, a member of the palace court.
Grant smiled, swirling the wine in his glass around as he was amused by what he was hearing. It was something he was hearing often these days now that his granddaughter Linda was of age to marry and in the selection. "Don’t be ridiculous," he answered.
"He’s right, Grant," Hans, another man of the court, joined. "The prince should marry the young woman with the family who controls most of the royal army. Nathan’s weapons don’t compare to the men under your control."
"That is true, but you are forgetting that the prince already has his mind made up on Hazel. We cannot sway his mind now on the last day. There is nothing about Hazel that you can use to prolong the selection. That girl has no flaws," Grant said as he had witnessed her grow into the woman she was now.
Hazel was like a second granddaughter to him.
Grant wasn’t surprised to know that she was doing well, but it did upset him that she continued to upstage his granddaughter. He tried not to think much of it because he knew Linda probably went into this not giving her all. Linda didn’t have eyes for the prince. It was the bastard beside him.
"We can create one and the rumours will make it true. You won’t gain anything from Linda marrying Edgar. That boy is too stubborn and won’t let you near him. Imagine it, Grant. One day instead of standing down here, you stand up there," Hans said, pointing to the throne. "Grandfather of the queen."
Grant humoured his friend by looking at the empty throne. He wouldn’t tell the blabbering fools about it, but he had once thought of sitting on the throne. If there was a princess around at the time he was looking for a way into the palace, he would have married her, but unfortunately, there was no woman for him to wed his way into the palace.
His opportunity came with Linda, but the girl didn’t see what was before her. That she could have the spot of queen and be the most powerful woman in the kingdom. Then Grant would be the most powerful man.
Grant cared for Hazel, but he loved getting power.
"There’s nothing you can do to change that she will be announced as the future queen. There is not much time for us to change what has already been set," he said, still feeling like there was no hope. Not unless they got rid of Hazel, but that was something he wouldn’t do.
"Let the boy have his queen. The court will call for him to bring women to his side. What matters most is who bears him a prince first," Hans said, smiling as he had a grand plan.
