The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 80: Future plans (2)
Chapter 80: Future plans (2)
"You want my granddaughter to be known as the king’s mistress? That is what you want of Linda Henson? Have you lost your mind?" Grant asked, resisting the urge to hit Hans over the head with the glass in his hand.
Hans put up his hands to show that he didn’t mean any harm. "She’ll be forgotten of being his mistress when we get her the seat of queen. At this point, having her be taken by his side will get her to sit on the throne. We’ll get Hazel off the queen’s seat and give it to your family."
"The town will forget about how Linda became queen when she blesses the kingdom with a prince and your family is at her side to help protect this kingdom. Your son will get a higher position in the palace alongside you. Your grandsons could control all of the army. You mustn’t let this go to waste," Franklin said.
With Grant’s family in the palace, Franklin could also grow higher.
The queen needed to come from a family they all benefit from and Nathan was not someone to ever be interested in their plans.
"The king will soon lose interest in Hazel. That boy will be back to romancing every woman in town. Then we will strike and send your granddaughter to him. You only need to get her to let go of this silly dream she had with Edgar. That boy will never marry. Get her the seat she deserves," Franklin said, hoping he could sway Grant this time.
Many of the men in court were in support of Grant’s granddaughter taking the seat on the throne as queen. What Grant needed to do was take control of Linda and make her do as she was told.
"You’ll face another problem as that girl loves Hazel. She’ll be hard against coming into the palace in the future. It’ll be a headache for me as her father and brothers won’t want her entering the palace. They were all against letting her join the selection. None of them sees what lies ahead," Grant said, eyeing the throne. "I’ll have to clear the fog and show them what they were missing."
"Then," Franklin said, stepping closer to Grant. "Does that mean you finally accept our plan to get your family to be on the throne?"
"I will accept when you show me how you can get Hazel off the throne. Don’t tell me about your plans to do so. I still care for the girl and I’d like to be telling the truth when I say that I don’t know what you intended to do to her. You should be off to set your plans into motion. I won’t be holding off Linda’s marriage for a long time," Grant said as he didn’t want to hear her be called a spinster.
"Of course. Excuse me," Franklin said, leaving as he had to inform the others on their side that Grant was going to join them.
Grant was the one man they could use to go against whoever was king as his influence here could not be ignored. The king, whether it be Jeffrey or Tobias, could not challenge Grant as they would lose control over a large portion of their army.
Grant stood alone now that Franklin and Hans left to get their plans started. Should they fail and their plans be revealed, he would be prepared to silence the two of them and all their followers before they could claim that he had any part in getting rid of Hazel.
He knew that they were only helping him so they could help themselves, but he would keep them around to make use of them so he could get what he wanted. He knew how to get rid of them in the future so they couldn’t turn around to plot on him or Linda.
Grant looked off to the side of the prince. He was quite the fool in the eyes of the court, but Grant’s grandsons had told him that it was merely an act. Grant was yet to see what they meant, but since they had been off at war with Tobias, he had to take their words seriously.
Grant welcomed being surprised in the future by the prince’s true personality and learning why he was acting like a fool most of the time. If he was trying to confuse his enemies, Tobias was wasting his time. It was better to show just how cruel he was.
Tobias’s act was now leading the court to get rid of his future wife when she was not yet announced.
Grant felt sorry for Hazel, but at the same time, she was in his way. One day he’ll apologise to her for making her time as queen short.
"You’re a man of your word. Grant!"
Grant looked away from Tobias to Jeffrey who was calling to him. He put on his best smile as he walked over to the king and Nathan. "What can I do for you, Your Majesty?"
"You can have a drink with us instead of being off alone. I hope you are not standing around talking about work or war," Jeffrey said, signalling a servant to bring them more drinks. "Nathan here is already no fun. He’s ready to go back to looking over his business."
"Or is he trying to run off to be with his wife since the children aren’t at home with her? The woman can wait. She can take care of the home or go shopping," Grant said and then drowned the last of his wine so he could get another glass. "I warned my son not to let his wife distract him."
"Grant, you know that I care for you, but I have asked you not to speak about how I am with my wife. You are old school and sometimes what you say angers me. I’d hate to ruin the friendship our family has by arguing with you," Nathan said as Grant telling him more about how Renee should be would end in a punch.
"Right. The two of you are close because of your daughter and granddaughter. You’ll get to speak with the two of them after tomorrow. I know that women might be unhappy that the selection is ending, but I am thrilled. I am one step closer to passing off the throne to Tobias. I hope your grandsons will be there to help him," Jeffrey said to Grant.
"They will be. They are loyal to your family and enjoy fighting alongside the prince. You have nothing to worry about," Grant replied. He would have liked for Jeffrey to offer something to keep his grandson’s loyalty to the prince.
"I couldn’t avoid the gossip. I hear that Hazel will likely become queen. Congratulations," Grant said, holding his glass to Nathan for a toast to be made.
"I am not celebrating until it is announced that she will be. Linda is in the contest too so I am rooting for her. We should toast to them both for finding good men to care for them. That is all I want," Nathan said, carefully connecting his glass with Grant’s.
"To good futures for our girls," Grant cheered with Nathan.
