The Lady Is Mine-Chapter 192: No More
Inside the house, Jenna watched with a smile on her face as her family chattered and cheered for each other. Some argued, others whined and complained.
It was a chaotic dinner, but she loved it. Being back home really calmed her. Feeling someone’s eyes on her, Jenna turned to see Rhane staring at her.
"Do you want to go outside?" Rhane mouthed, moving his head to the side.
Jenna nodded, she gave Rhane a signal to move first and she would follow.
Rhane pushed his chair back and left the room quietly.
Jenna waited for a second, then tried to stand but Beth stopped her.
"How does it feel to be taking a friend’s man?" Beth asked with her eyes narrowed.
Before Jenna could defend herself, Harriet and Mabel raised their voices.
"Lord Rhane has never noticed your existence, except if you’re talking about your delusions."
Beth let go of Jenna, she turned to face the other girls. "Delusions? I’ve always been the prettiest girl around here... to even be noticed by me is...."
Jenna took their argument as a room to escape the dining. Once she got to the door, she looked around searching for Rhane. When she found him standing outside with his back resting on the pillar, Jenna ran to embrace him.
"Did you wait for so long?" Jenna rubbed her head on his chest, inhaling his scent.
Rhane stood straight, wrapping his arm around Jenna’s waist. "Compared to how long I waited to have you see me... this is nothing." He pecked her nose.
"You remember when you were drunk... I’d told you my name. Expecting that you now remember me and I’ve made progress...." Rhane sighed, shaking his head.
Jenna pressed her lips, "I... I was drunk! I barely had the memories the next day."
"But you remember the kiss?"
Jenna hit his chest, she turned her face and blushed.
Taking Jenna’s hand, Rhane started walking slowly. "A lot has really happened in a short time... from saving my life, to bringing me back home. And even making a shirt for me.... I’ll say I have the best master, ever."
"Of course!" Jenna agreed with a proud smile. "Which master do you think will let you shower in her room?"
Rhane halted, grabbing Jenna’s cheeks. "That reminds me. Why would you let a man shower in your room?"
"Well... it was you?" Jenna moved her eyes to the side, trying not to smile.
Rhane squeezed her cheeks. "And I’m not a man?"
"Then... then you lost your memory... and were pitiful...." Jenna muffled with her cheeks squeezed. "How could I have known that you were lying?"
"Exactly! You have nothing when it comes to survival... and was I so pitiful you had to moan my name afterwards?"
Jenna remembered what she had done that day and she closed her eyes and winced. "Don’t!!" She tried to bury her face in Rhane’s chest.
"Don’t what?" Rhane asked. "What were you doing that day?"
Jenna pulled back, "Wait... you didn’t know?" She widened her eyes. "You didn’t...?" She gasped.
"Let’s keep it that way!" She clapped her hands, jumping around in the dark night.
Rhane watched her celebrate her little win, a smile curling on his lips. "Even to the end she’s stupidly innocent." He bit his lower lip, increasing his steps to meet up with Jenna.
"I’ve missed here so much." Jenna confessed, kicking a small stone. "To think that you’ve been beside me all this while.... that reminds me... those thieves from the market. Was it you? That made them return my goods?"
Rhane cleared his throat, rubbing his hand on his neck. "Thieves? Why can’t I remember...."
"It wasn’t you?" Jenna hummed. "I was going to give a thank you hug to whoever it was that-"
"You should know who your man is.... of course I had them return every single dime they took from my woman." Rhane boasted, he opened his arm.
"Now my hug?"
Jenna frowned, "It was you? who beat them up? Bad Rhane." Jenna tutted, trying hard to stop her smile when she saw Rhane’s disappointed expression.
"I mean they asked for it when they stepped into my territory." Rhane confessed.
Jenna pointed at her chest, her head slightly tilted. "I am your territory?"
"Yes, you are." Rhane replied. "You are mine... you belong to me... just as I belong to you."
Jenna knew the answer but she loved to hear Rhane say it. "What do you love so much about me, Rhane?"
Rhane stopped walking, placing his hand on Jenna’s shoulder. He kissed her eyes, "I love your eyes, your nose... your lips... I love your scent... I love how stubborn you are... your face when you wake up in the morning."
Jenna gasped, feeling embarrassed.
"Your parted lips when you sleep, how you wrap me with your legs even deep in sleep. The shape of you when you wear trousers and even in dresses. I love that you’re breathing... that you exist... I love that you’re mine, Jenna. I just love your imperfections.... they make you different."
Jenna raised her shoulders, she kicked her feet mindlessly. "And what about.... when we-"
Rhane threw his head and laughed. "To be honest after having a taste of you... I don’t understand how I was able to wait this long. Just a look in your eyes and I couldn’t hold back myself.... you do that to me Jenna... it’s a power you hold."
Tracing his hand on her face, Rhane flicked a strand of hair. "Even thinking about your warmth wrapping me up.... life! It’s life! You give me life, woman."
Jenna bit her lips. To hear that she was able to please a man. To hear over and over again what she meant to a man she actually loves. Something she already gave up on.
It felt like a dream. One Jenna wished never to wake up from. Thinking of dreams, Jenna remembered something.
"What actually happened when we were young?" Jenna had been forgetting to ask Rhane about it.
Rhane moved his head to the side, "You mean if I- No! No I didn’t. You were this little." He gestured with his hand, "And I was a boy... fourteen. I tried to save a nobleman’s daughter from drowning but it turned to an accusation." He rubbed Jenna’s hair.
"Back then I was curious... yes. In later years, you became the only woman I ever wanted to have beside me."
Jenna tipped her toes and kissed him. "I know you didn’t... but why didn’t you tell my father."
Rhane sucked his teeth, "Sometimes people refuse to hear the truth especially when it’s from someone beneath them." He shrugged.
"Your father had more to gain, if he had accepted the lie. And so he did what anyone would have done...."
Jenna’s heart ached. To think that back then and even now Rhane had to suffer because of him. And she didn’t even know it.
"No more...." Jenna muttered. "No more suffering... no more pains... we have each other now." She pecked Rhane’s cheeks.
"And I’ve been thinking... about children." Jenna cleared her throat. "How many times do we need to... ehm..."
Rhane took a step back, scanning Jenna’s face. "You want to have- with me?"
"Well... if we’re going to get married. We should-"
Rhane stopped her, "I’m happy either way... if you don’t want to have children. It’s fine... we can be happy together."
Jenna lightly bit his arm. "You’ve always been smart... how come you don’t understand what I-"
"You-" Rhane gasped. He hit his own head. "My lady... I am on all two’s to do your command... let’s go back inside and talk about this." He moved his arm for Jenna to take.
Jenna cleared her throat, stifling a laugh. "Yes... it is an important conversation. We need to take it inside the room." She giggled, hanging on Rhane’s arm.
