The Lady Is Mine-Chapter 193: A New Life
"Your brother is going to kill me." Percy ruffled his hair. Thinking about what he had just done. This wasn’t the plan when he went to Kali. He moved up the sleeves of her shirt. Then continued brushing off sand from her body.
Kali grinned, "We can go back inside and continue." She advised with a small smile.
Percy gave her a tired look. "Do you even hear me? Rhane is going to kill me, if he finds out where my hands have been."
"We can hide it forever." Kali suggested, enjoying the sight before her.
Percy got down on one knee to dust the sand particles on her shoes. "How can I hide my intentions to marry you?" He shook his head.
It was inevitable, either he chose death by Kali or by Rhane. Whatever choice he makes was going to get him a punishment. And rejecting Kali would be worse than death itself. Percy paused midway and smiled.
He felt at ease now. Accepting what he actually felt for Kali was love made him more relaxed.
"Are you not done?" Kali whined, "I miss your face."
Percy stood up, dusting his hands off on his trousers. "But you always see my face and I’m trying to clean your-"
Kali pecked his nose. "You look like a rabbit, Percy....it makes me want to eat you up."
Percy’s ears flushed. He was sure he wouldn’t be able to get used to Kali’s straightforward confessions and how she did it without shame.
"Have you always been this cute?" Percy asked ruffling Kali’s hair. She looked even more womanly now that she was in love.
"You’re really beautiful, Kali." Percy confessed.
Kali grabbed his collar. "That goes without a saying." She reached for his face.
"What do you think you’re doing to my sister?"
Percy froze. Just on the day he finds out he’s in love same day he would be saying goodbye to earth? He slowly turned his neck, with a sheepish grin.
"Rhane...." Percy’s voice cracked.
Jenna waved at Kali with a knowing smile. "What happened?" She tired to whisper but everyone heard her.
"Percy says he loves me and now we are getting married." Kali said out loudly for anyone who cared to listen.
Percy tried to stop Kali, but it was too late and Rhane’s eyes was shooting daggers at him.
"Did you seduce my sister with the promises of marriage?" Rhane asked sternly.
Percy raised his hand defensively, "I didn’t seduce her...infact she-"
"Are you a coward trying to put the blame on my sister?" Rhane’s frown deepened. "Kali, step away from him so his blood doesn’t stain you."
Jenna squeezed Rhane’s arm. "Take it easy on him."
"I have to scare him a little, don’t you think?" Rhane whispered to Jenna, his gaze intently on skittish Percy.
Kali took a step forward, standing in front of Percy. "Rhane. You’re going to leave him alone...Percy is only my rabbit to scare."
"Only your rabbi-" Rhane closed his eyes and sighed. "My sister is gone...Percy has taken her senses away."
Jenna couldn’t hold back her laugh, she moved away from Rhane’s side. Their interactions- Rhane and Percy always reminded her of two best friends that swore in their past life never to meet again.
Going to where Kali was, Jenna took her hand. "How did it happen?"
"I asked him to marry me...then he touched my brea-"
Jenna covered Kali’s mouth, stopping her from completing her words. It was already bad Rhane saw them about to kiss any other detail aside that would be harmful to Percy.
"You can keep the rest to yourself. Trust me Kali. It’ll save us bloodshed." Jenna chuckled nervously.
With one hand on his waist, Rhane pointed at Percy. "Tomorrow before the first crow...we fight. I need to know you can protect my sister."
"Rhane I can protect myself fine." Kali retorted.
Jenna watched from Rhane to Percy and then to Kali. It was as though she now lived her best dreams. Everyone she loves and care for, beside her. They were smiling...living in the moment.
It didn’t hurt anymore. The nightmares that once cracked her soul and left her in the dark. The heavy tears that weighed her mind and body stopping her from letting anyone in.
The noise, the pain. The stomp of Gerald’s feet and hands on her body. His hurtful words and actions. They were all gone now.
Jenna had forgiven herself and also everyone who ever hurt her. She was letting go of it all, in other to experience this new life. This new life with Rhane.
A life where they didn’t have to worry about looking back. They weren’t being chased or have something to worry about. And it showed in Kali and Rhane.
They looked really relaxed. Two siblings who had did nothing all their lives but trying to survive. Now that they didn’t worry about anything, they had a different glow on them.
"What do you say we all have a wedding together." Kali suggested with a grin. "Tomorrow is fine."
Percy widened his eyes, "I need to get ready...your dowry...and um...it’s a lot."
"Is he backing off?" Rhane growled taking a step closer to Percy.
Jenna clapped her hands, trying to get their attention. "Now now....it’s late and we haven’t had dinner. Why don’t we all go inside. Have dinner and sleep, tomorrow we can-"
"Sleep." Kali blushed. "Can I sleep with Percy tonight?"
"Kali!" Percy cried out.
Rhane crackled his knuckles. "That’s it. I’m going to kill him."
Jenna let out a frustrated sigh. Even in the newfound peace there was still chaos. Not that she mind. If this was the trouble she’d wake up to everyday, then gladly.
"My lady! My lady!" Harriet ran out of the room, her face covered in sweat and fear. The girl looked like she had seen something worse than a ghost.
"Harriet...what is wrong?"
Rhane and Kali reached for their daggers, their eyes scanning around to see if they were being attacked.
While Kali stood protectively in front of Percy, Rhane followed Jenna closely behind.
"Mabel...Mabel..." Harriet breathed roughly pointing at the house. "Her water....she’s..."
From inside Bruno shouted, "The babies are coming!"
"Babies?" Jenna asked with her head tilted to the side.
Harriet found her voice, "And Beth too....they’re both about to give birth in the dining."
"What?" Jenna grabbed the girl’s hand running towards the house.
As they entered the house, Mabel’s scream was the first sound they heard while Henri panciked beside her.
Beth, on the other side of the table clenched her teeth. "I’m the prettiest woman around here."
Mabel groaned, forcing a laugh. "But you lost all battles when it comes to being...." she moaned. "Picked."
"What is going on?" Jenna moved towards Mabel. The two women were arguing even when they were in pains.
"Bruno...Harriet clear the table. Henri help me place them on the table." Jenna turned to Kali. "Bring a bowl and towel,"
Kali opened her mouth, she turned around. "A towel and bo- how do I."
"Now!"
Kali jumped running out in search of what was needed.
"Percy take Henri to the village and find any woman awake...." Jenna rolled her sleeves.
Rhane pointed himself, "What about me?"
"Love. I’m going to need you around for strength...." Jenna confessed, "I don’t know what I’m about to do...but I know two babies are making it to the merchant village tonight."
Rhane nodded with a smile. He loved to see Jenna’s serious look when she meant something. "I’m all yours, love."
"Thank you..." Jenna breathed, she turned to the two women. This wasn’t how she planned to start her first night with the love of her life but bringing two beautiful souls into the world. Then hell yes!
"In the next few hours...you’re going to push when I say so...."
Another family about to be added. Another joy....hope....happiness. It’s all happening and falling perfectly in line for her and Rhane. And everyone beside them. With a grateful smile Jenna inhaled deeply, before she shouted.
"Push!"
