The Lady's Butler: I Reincarnated To Serve The Villainess-Chapter 40: A Corrupted
"D-damn it, I thought she was supposed to be an E-rank!"
The intruder, now clutching his missing arm, stuttered out as he did what he was best known for.
Hiding.
He was still within the hall with that monster who was currently searching for him, and he realized one thing,
Their Intel was completely wrong.
There was no way in hell that she was an E-rank, hell, she wasn’t even D-rank.
She had to at least be C or B rank, considering how easily it had been for her to completely freeze his arm without him being able to react.
’I have to get out of here,’ he thought to himself as he used his spirit to search for an exit.
If there was another thing he was good at, it was identifying battles he couldn’t win, and this was one of those.
The air around him was getting colder and it was getting harder to circulate his mana by the second.
"There," he muttered as he found the same window he had walked in from.
The only problem was avoiding that monster until he got to safety.
Using his wind spirit’s senses again, he tried to locate Renelle, on to realize that she was....
In front of him?
BOOM!
A large ice spike slammed directly into the position he was hiding, fortunately, he had moved quickly enough to avoid the attack.
The pillar the attack hit was immediately encased in ice.
"Are you done hiding?" Renelle’s voice came from behind him as she calmly walked towards him.
There was small smile on her face as she stopped a short distance away from the intruder.
There was something strange about this situation, that explosion of ice was loud enough for the guards to hear, so why hadn’t they rushed in?
The intruder looked towards the door and back to her, before realizing that she might’ve done something to prevent sound from escaping the mansion.
Something only someone confident would do.
But in this case, it was going to work against her.
"Haha," it started out as a low chuckle before he let out a fully crazed laughter.
Renelle, on the other hand, calmly waited for him to stop laughing, something that didn’t seem to be happening any time soon.
She let out a sigh as she extended her hand, pointing her finger towards him. The moment she did, a small ice spike launched from it, heading towards the Intruder’s head.
She thought she’d get the chance to test how much she had grown from that breakthrough, but it wouldn’t be fun if the training dummy lost its mind.
So she decided to just end it there.
Surprisingly, just before the the spike could reach him, it suddenly stopped mid air before falling harmlessly to his feet.
"Remember this Lady Ardent," the intruder finally stopped laughing, now with a serious expression on his face, "I didn’t want to use this, but you forced my hand."
He suddenly summoned his spirit again, before grabbing it.
He then revealed something that was now clutched in his fist, a small orb with dark red swirling energy within.
"This will kill you," he muttered as he looked at the spirit, "but this is the Master’s will, that’s why he gifted it to me."
The next second, he suddenly forced the orb through his spirit’s beak and before it could get the chance to struggle,
He swallowed it?
Renelle froze as she immediately recognized what he was doing, it was something she had seen quite a few times in her previous life and she knew one thing for certain,
She had to stop him.
The intruder suddenly fell to his knees, letting out a scream as red glowing cracks started appearing on his body.
Roar!
What came out of its mouth sounded neither human nor natural, instead, it seemed like multiple voices screaming at the same time.
"Goodbye," Renelle muttered as a giant ice spike formed above the intruder before falling towards him.
BOOM!
The entire hall was soon covered in a white icy mist as the attack landed, causing the ground to tremble.
Renelle remained still as her eyes narrowed, trying to see if she had dealt with the nuance before it fully transformed.
She suddenly jumped to the side, barely avoiding a claw aiming for her head only due to her instincts.
"I guess not," She said as the mist cleared up, revealing the intruder, or rather, the creature he had become.
The cloak was now completely off, revealing a skin that had lost all its color, turning completely black with red glowing cracks that running all across it.
His eyes were now red glowing orbs, and his mouth, now perpetually open, was dripping with saliva.
"A corrupted," she muttered.
She didn’t know the exact details, but she had encountered quite a few that had that orb which forced a merging between a spirit and it’s contractor.
The result was this....a corrupted.
One that had the mana of a human and the element of the absorbed spirit, a disgusting act even to the previous Renelle who was willing to freeze all of Avera just to be by the prince’s side.
Without warning, the creature launched itself forward again, moving a lot faster than previous, and before one could blink, it was in front of Renelle.
It launched an attack that was too close for her to dodge, fortunately, she was fast enough to create an ice sword and using it to block the creature’s claws.
The force of the attack launched her backwards, but she quickly regained her footing, and just in time.
The creature swiped its claw at the air, and although nothing was visible, Renelle dodged to the side.
A second later, large slashes in the shape of the corrupted’s claw appeared on the wall behind where she previously stood.
A wind attack.
Seeing its attack miss, the corrupted dashed forward again but just before its claws could reach her,
"Freeze."
