The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad-Chapter 530: How Far Have You and Hugo Quinn Gone?
After waiting for a while in the villa, she saw Hugo Quinn return as well.
"Have you eaten?"
She brought out the meal she had prepared, but Hugo went straight upstairs.
"There are still things at the company. I need to go there for a bit."
Jean Nash’s face fell instantly; this was her first time cooking, even though it didn’t look very good.
If it were Shawn Yates, no matter how bad it tasted, he would eat every bit and then look at her hands with concern for the blisters.
Hugo was home for less than five minutes before heading out with some documents.
Jean Nash sat before the meal she had made, her brow furrowed.
Why was she doing this? Did she really like Hugo Quinn?
Yet when she thought of leaving, her heart was filled with reluctance.
Her phone rang; it was a call from the Nash Family. It seemed that Old Master Nash wanted to speak with her.
Jean Nash sighed, unable to take even a bite of the food she made, and hurriedly left for the Nash Family’s home.
The Nash Family had always been low-key. Due to Old Master’s influence, the whole family had no faults that could be pointed out.
However, as with any large family, there were always some things that couldn’t be exposed to light.
When Jean Nash entered the house, she immediately noticed the severe atmosphere in the living room; everyone was waiting for her arrival.
"Grandfather, what’s going on? Why is everyone here?"
Jean Nash’s parents died in an accident, and she was raised by her grandfather, Old Master Nash, since childhood, having deep feelings for him. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Old Master Nash’s face was sullen, gripping his cane tightly in his hand.
"Jean, how far have you and Hugo Quinn gotten?"
Though Old Master Nash was concerned about her relationship with Hugo Quinn in the past, he’d never asked outright before. Jean Nash had a keen sense that something major had happened.
"It’s just the same. We’ve recently canceled the wedding. The Nash Family doctor is still treating Marcus’s illness. Once he recovers, we’ll reschedule the engagement date."
Old Master Nash looked troubled, his hand slowly squeezing the cane.
Not far away, a young man around twenty years old was kneeling on the ground, his back bloodied from a beating.
That was Jean Nash’s cousin, Nolan Nash.
"Grandfather, what happened to Nolan? Did he go gambling again?"
The only wayward member of the Nash Family was Nolan, who had a penchant for gambling and had already lost a lot of money.
Old Master Nash nodded and slowly closed his eyes.
"He previously won 30 million from someone and squandered it all. Recently short of cash, he went gambling again and lost 500 million. The matter happened in front of many young masters and ladies in the circle, and Nolan must repay the 500 million. Otherwise, our Nash Family would be looked down upon."
Jean Nash felt as if a lump of blood was stuck in her throat, seeing that Old Master Nash hoped she could ask Hugo Quinn for 500 million?
If it hadn’t been for Shawn Yates’s situation, she could indeed humble herself to this extent. But she had just asked Hugo Quinn for 2 billion; now turning around to ask for 500 million, what would Hugo think?
"What kind of gambling could cause a loss of 500 million? This is clearly illegal!!"
The Nash Family could easily use their influence to erase this debt.
Old Master Nash rubbed his temples, feeling utterly blocked.
"This happened at a charity gala. Nolan voluntarily increased his stakes, thinking the other side would lose, just like last time. But the other’s luck was good and directly won 500 million. With so many people witnessing, if our Nash Family doesn’t acknowledge that debt, we’d be seen as bullies."
Jean Nash was furious with her cousin, who always ruined things and contributed nothing of value!
"This mess he created should be borne by himself. Grandfather, he’s already twenty, not two. You can’t keep solving all his problems!"
Nolan, kneeling on the ground, suddenly lifted his head upon hearing Jean Nash’s words.
"Cousin, where am I supposed to find 500 million? How can I fix this? You know none of the Nash Family are business prodigies. The family managed to gather 20 million for me, and that’s all I have left. Cousin, if you don’t help me, I’m doomed."
"Since you knew you didn’t have 500 million, why would you gamble so recklessly! Such greedy desires!"
Jean Nash wasn’t holding back at all, sighed deeply.
"Grandfather, I really can’t help you with this. A few days ago, I asked Hugo Quinn for 2 billion to save a friend of mine. If I go to him now asking for another 500 million, what will he think of me? Hugo has money, but his money isn’t from thin air. We are not even engaged yet; we’re at best just boyfriend and girlfriend. In today’s world, what boyfriend would hand over 500 million to a girlfriend?"
Right after Jean Nash finished speaking, a middle-aged man standing nearby couldn’t bear listening anymore.
"Jean! What do you mean by this? We helped you so much when you were young, and now that you’ve latched onto Hugo Quinn, how can you turn your back so heartlessly? Asking Hugo Quinn for money is just a matter of pride, but if our Nash Family can’t cover this debt, how will we continue in this circle? Of course, your grandfather’s position will also be threatened."
The one speaking was Nolan Nash’s father, as the two only had this one son, they had always pampered him, and Nolan was spoiled.
"If you really cared about the Nash Family, you wouldn’t have let your son run wild outside for so many years. Every time it was grandfather who cleaned up your messes. Now what right do you have to say such things!"
Jean Nash was truly angry today. Old Master Nash was getting on in years and still had to worry about the affairs of the younger generation.
"Jean! You’re really out of line. We are your elders!"
The middle-aged man shouted and made a move to slap her.
"Stop!"
Old Master Nash spoke, his gaze sharp.
"Put your hand down. We are all family; don’t make things ugly. Jean, since you are unwilling to ask Hugo Quinn for money, then I must handle it. The Nash Family’s ancestral home should be enough when listed for sale these next few days; someone should come to buy it."
Once these words were spoken, everyone was shocked.
The Nash Family’s ancestral home was passed down for generations, producing many great leaders. It was priceless and not something money could measure. If Old Master Nash sold it off, the ancestors of the Nash Family wouldn’t approve!
"Old Master, you can’t sell the ancestral home, or how would you face the ancestors of the Nash Family?"
"Yes, this is something from the older generation."
Someone shouted, and Jean Nash stood in the living room, feeling a chill over her body, unable to utter a single word.
Old Master Nash was forcing her; if she didn’t get the money from Hugo Quinn, then the Nash Family would sell their ancestral home, this matter could be blamed on her head.
Jean Nash was disappointed. Old Master Nash was still showing favoritism towards males over females, no wonder he indulged Nolan’s reckless behavior.
"Enough said, it’s decided, everyone should leave."
Old Master Nash stood up and went upstairs.
