Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work-Chapter 138: Invitation
"Mr. Yi, does your family work in surgery at a hospital?" After the successful surgery, Zhong Fangrui waved at Yi Roujing and asked with a smile.
"Not in surgery. My grandfather was a doctor in a traditional Chinese medicine hospital. He instilled a lot of knowledge in me from a young age. I’m very interested in the medical profession and have read many books on the subject," Yi Roujing replied with a smile.
"Your fundamental skills are very solid, and your reaction is quick. It’s thanks to your crucial role that the patient received timely treatment, especially your excellent bleeding control," Zhong Fangrui admired Yi Roujing for this reason and was considering recruiting her to his team.
"You’re overqualified to just be a nurse in the outpatient department. Would you like to join me? I’ll personally talk to Mr. Chen and Nurse Chief Luo," Zhong Fangrui asked seriously.
"Some of the questions I asked you earlier aren’t ones that nurses need to know. Even some doctors can’t answer on the spot. You’re very talented, and if you pursue further studies, it’s not out of the question that you could become a doctor."
Of course, Yi Roujing’s goal is to become a doctor, but she didn’t say it outright. Her plan is to pass the college entrance exam to obtain a university diploma and then pursue a career as a doctor. For now, she just wants to gain experience and earn a salary.
She’s not considering the recommendation slots at the Worker, Peasant, Soldier University. To be honest, there have been quite a few students in recent years who got in through connections, which is different from earning a spot via the entrance exams. Especially since she knows the exams will be reinstated in a couple of years, she can afford to wait.
However, being a simple outpatient nurse is certainly less attractive to her compared to becoming a surgical nurse as Zhong Fangrui suggested. In her past life, she was in general surgery, and more exposure to the operating room would be immensely beneficial for her growth. In the medical profession, talent is important, but experience is indispensable.
"Director Zhong, I would be delighted to join you, but I plan to speak with Nurse Chief Luo personally," Yi Roujing replied.
Zhong Fangrui smiled at this. "Good, once you’ve spoken to her, I’ll handle Mr. Chen. I’ll have Nurse Chief Fan personally guide you; she’s the most capable scrub nurse here."
"Thank you, Director Zhong," Yi Roujing said with a smile of gratitude before returning to the outpatient department.
The news that Yi Roujing had been called to the operating room by the surgery director quickly spread in the outpatient clinic. After the operation ended, it was already lunchtime, and as soon as Yi Roujing arrived at the clinic, Han Xiangxi and a few others pulled her to the cafeteria.
"Roujing, I heard Director Zhong invited you to the operating room? How was it? When I first arrived, I only had the chance to visit when it was empty," Han Xiangxi asked excitedly.
"Lots of equipment, a tense atmosphere, and Director Zhong’s skills are truly impressive," Yi Roujing replied simply.
"Exactly, exactly. I’ve never seen it firsthand, but I’ve heard so many people say that a lot of people pull strings just to have Doctor Zhong operate on them," Han Xiangxi responded with twinkling eyes. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"But we’re outpatient nurses, how did Director Zhong invite you into the operating room, Roujing?" Ye Xiangli asked softly, smiling.
Sarcastic remarks make Yi Roujing least patient to converse, but since she hadn’t yet discussed with Luo Yueyuan her desire to join the operating room, Yi Roujing couldn’t directly respond.
"Maybe Director Zhong liked how I handled the bleeding and casually mentioned it," Yi Roujing laughed it off.
After lunch, Yi Roujing went to find Luo Yueyuan.
"Nurse Chief Luo," Yi Roujing knocked and entered, greeting with a smile.
"Roujing, how was lunch? How did the surgery go?" Luo Yueyuan asked with concern.
"The surgery was very successful," Yi Roujing replied. "Nurse Chief Luo, there’s something I’d like to discuss with you."
"Did Director Zhong invite you to the operating room?" Luo Yueyuan asked with a smile.
"You’re amazing, Nurse Chief Luo, you guessed it right on the first try," Yi Roujing responded.
Upon hearing this, Luo Yueyuan’s smile deepened. She gestured for Yi Roujing to sit next to her. "Although you haven’t been at our hospital for long, I can see you’re the best among the newcomers, quick to grasp everything. I can tell your foundation is excellent, and truly leaving you in the outpatient clinic would be a waste."
"So for your future, I agree with you going to the operating room," Luo Yueyuan said gently. "After all, it’s still contributing to the hospital."
"Did Director Zhong mention when you should start?" Luo Yueyuan asked, "I need to know to adjust the schedules accordingly."
"I haven’t given Director Zhong an answer yet," Yi Roujing replied. "I wanted to personally talk to Nurse Chief Luo first. Once you agree, I will go back to Director Zhong. Director Zhong said he would then talk to Mr. Chen."
Listening to this, Luo Yueyuan nodded, "You handle things thoughtfully. Go ahead and report back to Director Zhong. I’ll coordinate with Nurse Chief Fan."
"Alright," Yi Roujing said and then left.
This afternoon, Expert Lei and his team were set to leave, and as an assisting nurse, Yi Roujing followed Mr. Chen to see them off, even receiving an apology from that Doctor Du.
These trivial tricks were never a concern for Yi Roujing. After observing his familiarity with Wu Aihua, she figured it out. But receiving an apology today made Yi Roujing realize her actions in the morning were acknowledged, possibly with some behind-the-scenes critique from Expert Lei.
In the afternoon, the family of the worker whose leg was crushed by the transport vehicle also came to the hospital to express their gratitude to the doctor. Zhong Fangrui mentioned Yi Roujing’s contribution too. However, due to this incident, Yi Roujing wanted to see where Yi Weiliang worked, so she asked Nurse Chief Luo for permission to leave ten minutes early and headed to the transport department after changing clothes.
It was Yi Roujing’s first visit to the food factory. Usually, she would go directly to the employee hospital, so she was unfamiliar with the factory and had to ask for directions to find her way.
Possibly due to the incident, there weren’t many people in the transport department when Yi Roujing arrived. Among those present, Yi Weiliang was the one whose expression didn’t appear grim.
"Brother," Yi Roujing called out crisply upon spotting him.
"Sister, what brings you here? Are you off work?" Yi Weiliang came forward to meet her.
"Are you alright?" Yi Roujing asked as she carefully examined him.
"I’m fine," Yi Weiliang said bashfully, rubbing his head.
"Is Yuan doing okay?" Yi Weiliang inquired with concern, "Was he taken to the employee hospital this morning?"
"The surgery was a success, but his right leg was severely injured. It’s hard to say if there will be any aftereffects," Yi Roujing replied truthfully.
"As long as his life can be saved," Yi Weiliang said in a low voice, recalling the horrifying scene he witnessed. "By the way, I can leave now. Let’s go together."
Yi Weiliang said goodbye to his colleagues and took Yi Roujing with him.
"Sis, don’t come to the transport department if there’s nothing urgent. Today’s incident means our manager and several leaders are going to be held accountable. It’s very chaotic," Yi Weiliang advised softly.
