Chapter 52: Chapter 52: A Basin of Water

Lin Zhi was skeptical and gave her a glare before rushing into the bathroom.

After they had all used the bathroom, Tao Ti was the last to take a bath.

By the time she had finished her bath and returned, the lights were all turned off.

Groping in the dark, Tao Ti made her way to her bed and was about to go to sleep when she realized the sheets were damp.

Touching it, she leaned in to smell, the scent of juice distinct.

Recalling Lin Zhi had had some juice before taking a bath, having taken just a sip and commented it was too sweet, then left it untouched.

...

Did she pour the juice on her own bed?

But why would she do that?

Tao Ti got out of bed, felt for the light switch, and pressed it; instantly the whole room lit up.

Lin Zhi, who was almost asleep, cursed, “Are you sick? Why are you turning on the lights? I was almost asleep!”

Tao Ti asked kindly, “Was it you who poured the juice on my bed?”

“Crazy! I didn’t!” Lin Zhi turned her back, pulling the blanket over her head to block the light.

“It’s the juice you left, if it wasn’t you, then who was it?” Tao Ti frowned slightly, turned her head towards Orange, and asked, “Was it you?”

“Don’t wrong people!” Orange glared back fiercely.

Nobody was willing to confess, and Tao Ti thought for a moment before suddenly opening the window.

Lin Zhi angrily said, “Will you let people sleep at all, turning on lights and opening windows!”

Tao Ti ignored her and spoke to a bundle of black mist outside the window, “Were you just perching at the window?”

The black mist gradually became clearer, revealing an owl.

This was an owl killed by humans, filled with resentment.

Tao Ti negotiated, “I’ll consume your resentment, help you find your enemy, and bring him misfortune. In exchange, you help me identify who spilled the juice on my bed, deal?”

The owl flapped its wings and flew in front of Orange, where it stopped.

Orange and Lin Zhi couldn’t see the owl; from their perspective, Tao Ti just opened the window then began talking to herself, appearing deranged.

Lin Zhi cursed, “Seriously sick!”

Tao Ti stared at the owl in front of Orange, asking, “Are you sure it’s her?”

The owl used its wings to try hitting Orange, but they just passed through her.

“Alright, I understand, stop trying to hit her, you can’t hit her! Come here, I’ll consume your resentment and help you with your revenge!”

The owl flew in front of Tao Ti, who gently placed her hand on the owl’s forehead, drawing out strands of dark grey resentment.

Tao Ti quickly gathered the resentment and turned it into a shiny, translucent piece of Candy.

Lin Zhi, covering her eyes from the light, did not see it.

But Orange did see, she could see Tao Ti gathering the grey mist and transforming it into a piece of candy.

Seeing Orange intently watching the Candy in her hand, Tao Ti flaunted in front of her, gobbling it down with an expression that said it was delicious and not for sharing.

Orange rolled her eyes, “Don’t think performing some magic trick makes you a conjurer! Lousy candy, who cares!”

Orange licked her lips subconsciously, the candy looked crystalline and surely must taste good, right?

Tao Ti saw the owl turn into a point of light pointing in a direction, and an image emerged in her mind.

It was a man grabbing the owl and brutally beating it, against a backdrop of a wall hung with various cherished birds, all turned into stuffed specimens.

Tao Ti muttered, “Don’t worry, misfortune will befall him.”

Tao Ti threw a cluster of dark mist out the window, a new ability she had learned from a dream which could directly target and bring misfortune.

In the distance, a man sleeping suddenly shivered as a clump of dark mist settled on his forehead.

Tao Ti closed the window, turned to Orange, and asked again, “Was it you who poured the juice on my bed?”

“No.”

“You’re lying!”

“I’m not.”

Tao Ti rushed into the bathroom, fetched a basin of water, and came to the side of Orange’s bed. Under Orange’s frightened gaze, she poured the entire basin of water over her head.
