The Mafia's Undoing-Chapter 202: The Distance
I was at Bella’s house with our three kids and me. It was a temporary arrangement, but the statement was clear.
"I can’t watch him choose everything else over us. Not after everything we’ve been through." I told Bella.
She was supportive and understanding. "You’re doing the right thing to set firm boundaries. He needs this wake-up call."
Rose was confused, asking innocently. "Mama, why aren’t we home? Where’s Daddy?"
"Daddy’s working, baby. We’re just visiting Aunt Bella for a little while."
Hector was perceptive as always. "They’re fighting like before. Adults always fight eventually."
"Not fighting, sweetheart. Just... needing some space. To think clearly."
Tony called repeatedly and frantically.
"Come home. This is ridiculous, and you are completely overreacting."
"It’s not overreaction. You missed Thomas’s birthday. OUR SON’S SECOND BIRTHDAY."
"I apologized for that. Work ran unexpectedly late-"
"With Beverly again. It’s always Beverly now - her meetings, her deals, and her time with you."
"It’s BUSINESS! Why can’t you understand that simple fact?"
"Because I know women. I know when a woman wants my husband, and Beverly wants you desperately."
"You’re being paranoid and jealous without any cause. She’s just a BUSINESS ACQUAINTANCE."
I hung up, and no resolution was reached, and our distance widened exponentially.
Beverly posted on social media, the message was subtle and strategic.
Great business dinner with Tony Marvin discussing exciting new ventures! #PowerPartners #BusinessGoals
She attached a photo of her and Tony at an upscale restaurant. She was leaning close, smiling brilliantly, and touching his arm intimately.
Tony was oblivious, focused on his food in a professional posture. But the appearance? It looked intimate, close, and romantic.
After seeing it, my friends began sending me links immediately. "Um, Katherine... is this business?"
The rage, jealousy, pain, and betrayal came on strong, or was he really innocent? I couldn’t tell anymore.
I met with him at the house as the kids were safely with Bella. This private conversation was needed.
I showed Tony the photo. "This is business?"
He looked confused. "Yes. It’s a dinner meeting we had discussing Miami property details."
"She’s touching you, leaning in and looking at you like-"
"Like WHAT? Like a business acquaintance partner? Because that’s exactly what she is!"
"No, Tony! She’s looking at you like a woman in love and a woman who wants you desperately! How are you this completely blind?"
"I’m not blind. You’re seeing things that aren’t there. Probably imagining threats everywhere."
I researched Beverly Stone thoroughly. Who was she really?
A high school girlfriend - fine, dated Tony briefly at 25 for three months, and it ended mutually, supposedly.
But why now? Why reappear suddenly and pursue this business partnership so aggressively?
I called old friends who were contacts to start a private investigation into her.
Beverly’s businesses were struggling financially, and her father’s hotels were in severe decline. She needs investment desperately.
"She needs him. His money, success, and connections."
Or maybe she wants him back. It could be personal motivation, not for business. Probably a personal desire.
I made an unannounced surprise visit to Tony’s office and found Beverly there. Sitting in Tony’s private office, feeling comfortable.
"Oh, Katherine! What a surprise! Tony and I were just reviewing important contracts." She said as she tried to stand up from her seat.
"In his office alone and with the door closed?" I queried.
Beverly smiling. "We’re business acquaintances and need privacy for sensitive business discussions."
There was something in her eyes I couldn’t pinpoint. Was it victory, smugness, or a direct challenge?
Tony came into the office looking oblivious. "Katherine, what are you doing here unannounced?"
"Checking on my husband and making sure he’s actually WORKING."
Beverly excused herself smoothly. "I’ll let you two talk privately. Tony, call me later about Miami."
"Later about Miami." They were becoming way too familiar and comfortable.
I exploded as soon as she left. "THAT is just a business acquaintance who is comfortable in your office and calling you later?"
"Yes, and nothing more! We communicate regularly. That’s how business works, in case you’ve forgotten!"
That was a low blow. "I seem to remember that it’s not like THAT. Not with the constant touching, leaning, smiling, and the obvious flirting you’re too damn blind to see!"
"She’s not flirting, and you’re being overly sensitive and insecure!"
"I’m SEEING reality! That woman wants you, and you’re too blind - or too willing - to see!"
I paused to let Tony think it through and process it.
"Maybe she’s... friendlier than a typical business partner."
"FRIENDLIER? She’s FLIRTING and pursuing you romantically!"
"But I’m not interested. I’m married to you. Only you. She knows that clearly."
"Does she? Have you told her that clearly and set firm boundaries? Or have you been encouraging her all along by being too accepting?"
"I’m not encouraging anything-"
"You’re having private dinners and office meetings behind closed doors. The late nights together and constant contact. That IS encouraging!"
That evening when we got home, Beverly "accidentally" called Tony’s phone, and I answered.
"Oh, Katherine. I thought this was Tony’s number."
"It is, and I’m his wife. You do remember me, right?"
"Of course. Is Tony available? We have an urgent business matter."
"It’s 9 PM. Business can wait until morning."
"Actually, it can’t. It’s time-sensitive for the Miami property. We have a competing offer that needs Tony’s decision immediately."
"Then he’ll call you tomorrow during business hours."
"Katherine, I understand you’re... uncomfortable with Tony and me working together. But this is serious business. Don’t sabotage his success because of your personal insecurity."
I hung up, shaking with rage. Insecurity and Sabotage? How DARE she?
I called Susan immediately, who was my best friend and voice of reason.
"She called me insecure and said I was sabotaging Tony’s success."
"That’s a classic manipulation move and gaslighting at its finest. She’s making YOU the problem. Not her completely inappropriate behavior." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"Am I crazy, and am I imagining all of this?"
"No. A woman is pursuing your husband strategically and deliberately. You’re seeing it clearly."
"But Tony doesn’t believe me. He thinks I’m paranoid and jealous. That I’m overreacting dramatically."
"Men are oblivious, most especially successful men. They think everything is business and see compliments as purely professional, missing the obvious signs."
"So what do I do?" I asked worriedly.
"Fight for your marriage and for your husband. But be smart and strategic about it. Don’t push him away by being angry all the time. Pull him back by being irresistible."
I decided to fight for our marriage, but differently this time around, not with anger but with seduction as a powerful reminder.
I went home and left the kids with Bella overnight to surprise Tony.
I dressed to kill in my little black dress and heels, and my makeup was perfect.
Tony was shocked. "Katherine? I thought you were at Bella’s?"
"I was, but now I’m here with you. Reminding you exactly who you married."
I seduced him aggressively and passionately. There was no talking, just action and pure connection.
We made love desperately in multiple passionate rounds. It was intense and possessive as I claimed him completely.
"You’re mine. Only mine. Remember that always." I whispered.
"I never forgot. Never will forget." He gasped, breathing hard.
We tried to reconnect physically and emotionally, desperately rebuilding bridges.
By morning, we woke together feeling connected, better, and hopeful.
Then Tony’s phone buzzed with a text message from Beverly. Good morning, Coffee at 9? We have an urgent Miami update.
I saw it, and my mood crashed instantly. "She texts you good morning?"
"It’s just a business greeting-"
"It’s FLIRTING! Normal business acquaintances don’t text good morning greetings!"
Our fight resumed immediately, and the connection was lost, leaving us back at square one.
Back at Bella’s, the kids were playing, and my phone rang from an unknown number.
I answered gaugingly. "Hello?"
"Katherine Marvin? This is Rachel Kim from the New York Times business section. We’re running a story on Tony Marvin’s new business partnerships, particularly his close working relationship with Beverly Stone. Would you care to comment?"
"What story?"
"There have been multiple sources reporting Tony and Beverly Stone having an affair. The business lunches are becoming romantic late-night meetings, and an extremely close relationship is forming. As his wife, any comment?"
"That’s false and bullshit. They’re just business acquaintances!"
"But what about the photos? The intimate dinners and the constant contact? His friends confirm a very close relationship."
"What friends? Who’s saying this?" I asked.
"We can’t reveal sources, but Katherine - are you aware your husband and Beverly Stone dated previously? Twice - at high school and when they were 25? You think this is rekindling an old flame, perhaps?"
I hung, shaking violently.
The New York Times is running a story about affair allegations. This was a public humiliation.
Beverly’s ultimate move was destroying our marriage publicly and making me look like a fool. I was the naive wife whose husband was having an affair.
And Tony was still oblivious, defending her, and probably working late with Beverly now.
While my world crumbled, the other woman stayed there winning.
How do I fight this and save a marriage when my husband won’t see the threat?
When the public think the affair is real and the evidence keeps mounting?
This battle just begun to intensify.
