Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Qingyu Hall Humiliated

Qingyu Hall?

Looks familiar.

Isn’t this the clinic where Master has been visiting his old friend Hu An for years? What a coincidence, we’re just passing by.

Should I go in and take a look?

Although some people feel they’ve risen in status and don’t want to associate with people from rural areas anymore, looking down on friends who are beneath them, Hu An indeed helped Sun Simiao quite a lot in those years.

Lin Miao also benefited from him; back then, when he was practicing martial arts, several valuable medicinal ingredients needed for his bone strengthening brew were procured through Mr. Hu’s help.

Even though this kindness was received by the original host, this karma he has taken upon himself, and one should not forget their roots.

Gratitude should be remembered for a thousand years. Although Master paid for it, finding and purchasing those items required time and effort on their part.

Since we’re already in Dongshan City, it would be proper to pay a visit. Originally, I should have come with Sun Youwei, but Lin Miao thought it was better to first come alone to see if he is still willing to associate with this lowly friend.

If not, then there’s no need to come again in the future, and as for the gratitude, we can settle it at some point.

It’s not that significant a favor.

He sent the purchased medicinal herbs via a short-distance delivery van, not needing to worry about the goods going missing, as these services specialize in delivery—if a monk can run, the temple can’t run with them.

Near the wholesale market, there are such dedicated delivery services, very considerate for out-of-town buyers.

When visiting people, I shouldn’t go empty-handed, so Lin Miao bought two cans of Yun Zhen tea and two boxes of Longevity House Snacks as the standard courtesy gift for a younger person visiting elders.

It’s not too extravagant, yet not cheap either. These two items cost nearly a tael of silver, an amount the townsfolk of Qingping Town might not even earn in a month.

Carrying these two items, Lin Miao headed towards Qingyu Hall.

Entering the main hall, it was enormous and spectacular. It was his first time entering a clinic in Dongshan City, with the center dedicated to the Three Saints’ memorial tablets. All clinics were similar, with some having statues, others having three hanging portraits, and some simply a combined tablet like his family’s Herbal Hall. Then, there were the tablets of famous physicians of the past, lined on either side, receiving incense alongside the Three Saints.

The Three Saints are recognized by the world as the three great physicians, namely Mr. Zhong, Le, and Sima Sheng. Mr. Zhong was the earliest, followed by Sima Sheng, and lastly Le.

The youngest of them is a figure from eight centuries ago.

Mr. Zhong holds the highest position and can be considered the founding father of world medicine. Of course, before Mr. Zhong, herbal medicine already existed, but he was the one who synthesized the knowledge and authored the "Zhongjing Internal Scripture," esteemed as a classic by all physicians, essential study material for medical practitioners, influencing over two millennia.

The "Zhongjing Internal Scripture," along with Sima Sheng’s "Injury and Illness Discussion" and Le’s "Hundred Herbs Scripture," are known as the three great medical classics.

The clinic is divided left and right, with a hallway to the left leading to the treatment area, having several consulting rooms in the order of "A, B, C, D..." On the right is the pharmacy; post-consultation, one finds a pharmacist here to price and dispense medication. Further inside is the observation area, designated for treating external injuries.

This is essentially a small hospital, only lacking modern diagnostic equipment and infusion therapies.

In the main hall, there is a receptionist to guide patients. One can choose the desired medical officer or physician, take a "medical token," and wait at the respective consultation room until called in.

If the consultation room number on the wall has a medical officer’s name below it, it indicates the officer is in attendance today, otherwise, it will be vacant.

Lin Miao scanned quickly and was surprised to see Qingyu Hall had as many as seven or eight consulting rooms, but at the moment, only three physicians were in attendance, one being a doctor, the other two medical officers.

He was indeed fortunate, noticing the Wu-character consultation room, under which was a name: Hu An, with the rank of a senior medical officer.

No wonder he looked down on Master Sun Simiao; he’s already a senior medical officer, next step would be a doctor.

Once promoted to a doctor, the treatment and social status will be entirely different.

There are only two doctors in Qingyu Hall, one being the old proprietor, Chen Handian, recognized as one of Dongshan City’s top ten physicians, but merely a mid-level doctor. The other is outsourced, sitting in the B-character room, a junior doctor named Cui Han.

Lin Miao wasn’t there for treatment; he came to find someone. Approaching the young man distributing the medical tokens, he said, "Excuse me, young man, I’m not here for treatment, I’m looking for Mr. Hu, Mr. Hu An, he’s an old acquaintance of my master..."

"Go, go, if you’re here for treatment, take a token. If not, move aside. I’ve seen many like you trying to pull connections," the young man retorted, collecting the token he was about to hand out, his expression disdainful, motioning to send him away. "There are others waiting behind you."

Lin Miao felt a bit uncomfortable in his heart, but this is a clinic, a place for treatment. His approach indeed might have been inappropriate.

So he moved aside and waited.

There must be an end to the consultations, and once they’re done, it should be no problem to look for Hu An, right?

Patient after patient left, and seeing the last patient leave the Wu-character consultation room, Lin Miao carried his tea cans and snack boxes over.

But before he could go over, he was stopped by the young man who had just handed out the medical token: "What’s wrong with you? Take a medical token if you’re here for a consultation, and leave if you’re not. Who let you trespass in the consultation area!"

"This young man, I won’t go in. Could you please inform Mr. Hu? I’m really here to visit him, he’s an old acquaintance of my master." Lin Miao even showed his gift, indicating that he truly came to visit and not for a consultation.

"I’ve seen many people like you, bringing some lousy tea leaves and snacks to deceive. You really deserve a lesson; who do you think Qingyu Hall is?"

"Young man, I’m truly not a fraud..." Lin Miao tried to explain further.

At this moment, four robust guards who heard the commotion quickly ran over and surrounded him, clearly ready to beat him out if he didn’t leave immediately.

An infirmary treating visiting patients with such an attitude, even if there had been issues of patients deceiving to trespass before, shouldn’t be like this. He had already said he wouldn’t necessarily go in, just notify Mr. Hu, it’s just a small effort.

Not willing to do even this, one can imagine how arrogant this person usually is?

"Then, young man, could you tell me Mr. Hu’s address? I’ll wait at his home, is that fine?" Lin Miao wished to avoid trouble. If he could find out where Hu An lived, he would visit later.

"You still want to go to Mr. Hu’s house? That’s asking for trouble!" The young man rebuked fiercely, clearly unwilling to let Lin Miao off.

The four robust men obviously knew martial arts; the leader at least had Upper Grade Muscle Transformation cultivation, which was sufficient for order-maintenance here. If it were the Bone Forging Realm, Qingyu Hall might not afford it.

Why are there always people whose minds are rotten?

"Yes, young master!"

This fellow turns out to be the young master of Qingyu Hall!

Lin Miao suddenly understood why such a young man issuing medical tokens could wield such power, and why these guards obeyed him so readily.

If they didn’t heed the young master’s orders, they might as well give up their jobs.

So, the four picked up their wooden sticks and swung at Lin Miao’s limbs, clearly trying to break his arms and legs.

So vicious!

Lin Miao was furious; he initially didn’t want trouble but they insisted on making it. Fine, he’ll return like for like.

Holding the tea leaves and snacks in one hand, he swiftly snatched a stick with the other, and in a move called "Phoenix Triple Nod," the other three hadn’t reacted before their sticks were hit out of their hands by Lin Miao.

Then their wrists couldn’t be raised.

"Here, take it back!" Lin Miao handed the stick back and pressed the man’s shoulder before he could grab it.

Just a "crunch" sound, and the shoulder was dislocated.

"Indiscriminate and assisting the wicked, here’s a lesson for you. Next time, don’t look down on people!" Lin Miao snorted coldly, pushed him, and the man screamed, couldn’t even stand up straight, directly rolling on the ground.

"A physician sitting in such a wicked infirmary can’t have good character; my master misjudged, befriending someone like you. Clearly, you’re not worthy of the tea I’ve brought or the snacks I’ve bought!"

After saying this, Lin Miao stepped out of Qingyu Hall with his purchases.

No one dared to stop him.

The young master was even more frightened, pale-faced; he just didn’t like Lin Miao’s face and wanted to find an excuse to teach him a lesson, have some fun.

Instead, kicked a steel plate, the opponent, though of similar age, defeated the four easily.

These four, though not great masters, ensured that no one causing trouble in Qingyu Hall came to a good end.

Today, all were defeated, with three wrists dislocated and one shoulder dismantled.

"Quick, go find Mr. Hu!"

...

This connection with Hu An at Qingyu Hall is completely severed; he never intended to ask Hu An for help anyway.

Just sought to conclude the karma for peace of mind.

The premium Cloud Needle and Wanshou Studio snacks haven’t been sent, which is fortunate; a person sitting in this infirmary indeed doesn’t deserve to enjoy them.

Better head home first, no need to mention this to Su Youwei, she probably won’t recall this Hu anytime soon.
