The Ogre Strength Fairy and the Eldest 'Son'-Chapter 30 - Run, Jump, Stick The Landing~
Chapter 30: Chapter 30 - Run, Jump, Stick The Landing~
A wavy haired brunette teenager had been gradually becoming the Guild’s well-known little unassuming prodigy with a mysterious mentor for a little over two months. So when someone from outside of the Coiled Serpent’s membership that didn’t identify themselves as a courier showed up and asked to see her... the Front Desk receptionists smiled while secretly planning to tell the senior members first!
"You say he is wearing the Ironclad seal? But we have no written requests for work from them.
"Moreover, asking to see an apprentice in her training period. Who does that young man think he is?"
The two which the message runner found each had their own problems with the individual showing up ’unannounced’. As the young lady thought - they would protect their members!
"If I may, he did claim his family name."
"Oh, so it’s a *generational* brat. Well then, who am I going to go deal with?"
"We - I’ll go see what this is about as well."
She thought back to the bit of introduction he had given.
"He was a very handsome blonde teenager in a black suit that called himself Qatrand er Yecine."
The two men frowned. While it was unlikely to have heard of a single young individual, the family just named was important enough not to offend without good cause. They were also famous enough that the detail she spoke vindicated their desire to push the young man out.
"Every Yecine I’ve met has black hair. This child must be lying to gain access to our Little Snake."
The courier’s ’attempted insult’ had caught on in a favorable way... to the delight of *some* members.
"...You’re much too old to be trying new things like that."
"What? Just the other day I heard you-"
"Enough! Are we going to go chase this scoundrel away or not?"
The receptionist was very awkward after their exchange, wondering if these people were really the right choice...
Meanwhile, Elua stretched and took a break from slacking off in the library. She discreetly sent her spiritual sense out and searched the surroundings to see who was familiar - or hopefully unfamiliar - around to *play* with.
’Giving as many people as possible some kind of memory of interacting with me could pay off. Local legends are a powerful political tool!’
She knew she was right. For instance, how many were directly terrified first learning she was her mother’s daughter? Though she wasn’t looking to scare anyone... right now.
Everyone in the immediate vicinity was ’out’ as choice. They were reading quietly and therefore posed too much trouble to ’bother’. So, she walked away from the annex and toward the main building to continue looking for a target. After a small moment her foot stalled in mid-step.
Then she *bolted* in a direction like a cheetah, forgetting her usual ’modest’ behavior.
The mint-eyed girl with determined features rushed past a dozen people and directly leaped over the heads of a pair carrying a stack of books and documents. She didn’t make much noise on her own, but the cries of surprise and loud questions caught the attention of the two men about to begin berating. They would never know how close they became to being labeled as ’in the way’.
"Qat!"
The younger girl decided to warn as she sailed through the air again. The swordswoman turned her head and quickly prepared her stance - it hadn’t been the first of these! Elua was caught and spun in a circle once to help drain the momentum before settling into a close embrace.
Not everyone was so calm about the flying tackle hug.
"Little Snake! What are you doing jumping out so carelessly?!"
Pigeon blue eyes squinted then turned up from the back of the smaller girl held in her arms. They locked with the speaker’s own before her mouth moved.
"What did you call my fiancee?"
The tone was as calm as any the surrounding people had heard, but the one ’about to be protected’ felt her Qat’s spirit shifting - and the tendrils that had been reaching out towards her own began waving as if in warning. The wife-to-be was pleased! While the scheming side kind of wanted to exacerbate the situation, she ultimately felt that such a misunderstanding would just make her ’fortress’ appear foolish and aggressive.
"Remember how I told you about what those Sisters called me and what one of them said when she saw that I joined here? Little Snake. It has slowly caught on and become a friendly nickname to some of the younger members."
"Uh, I don’t care about that. He said you were careless. That was rude."
After everything they’d ever talked about and that she had been shown, Qatrand considered the fiancee to be just about the most ’careful’ person she’d ever met.
’Hnhgngg~’
There was no time for the shame at being the *actual* fool towards the problem. Elua blushed and buried her face in the Yecine’s neck. Her heart felt like it was being pricked by bee stingers that were injecting warm honey instead of poison.
"Did you come just to tell me sweet things like that?"
The taller girl thought for a moment. The exactness of the question seemed contrary to the intent of it...
"Yes? Sort of. I came to spend a little time with you, if possible."
The brunette tightened her grip on ’his’ clothing. Nothing had ever been discussed before leaving for training about visits, so she truly expected that she would never get to see her betrothed until coming back home. She was so happy that she worried her hands would wander. Writing in every letter that the Goltbred missed her eventually worked!
"How long?"
"I can accompany you until the evening. There was a lapse of time between missions and I happened to be... near the area."
A small spiritual blip let the ’younger’ of them know the hesitation was a fib. Qatrand wasn’t entirely lying, but she had spent an entire half a day moving this way to get to the city they were in - and it would add some to the travel back due to train schedules. She’d even spent too much of her hard earned remuneration to use the train’s ’luxury’ shower room...
Something the one clutching onto her had noticed the fresh smelling results of - though the schemer only thought she must have used a local bathhouse after arrival. El didn’t know that her special gem considered that and rejected it as a plan. Making another stop would mean the time she had to offer was shorter.
"Thank you for coming out of the way. I love you."
After a quick kiss to the underside of the blonde’s chin, the mint-eyed girl *reluctantly* climbed down. She looked at her surroundings and scratched her nose then cheek in ’embarrassment’ while averting her gaze.
"Seniors, I would like to officially request time off to deal with a personal matter."
The two who had eaten their conversation up close felt quite awkward. The others who had stopped what they were doing to follow the brown haired sprinter went on their way, with many chuckling over the matter. The nearby receptionists had been gossiping with hands cupping each other’s ears and sidelong glances at the young couple ever since the title ’fiancee’ had been called out.
"It’s not really proper to give anyone time off for dating in the middle of the day."
"It’s not a date, it’s a personal matter."
Elua er Goltbred said *confidently*, not actually caring if anyone believed her. One of the two seniors shook his head with unhidden exasperation while turning away and walking off.
"This young man is truly who he said he was?"
Both of the teenagers understood the ’problem’ the man had instantly.
"On my name, I would never confuse my beloved Qatrand er Yecine for another - whether their hair were changed to any color, size, or style. What you see now is the hair given by ’his’ late mother."
The one speaking wore a ’soft’ smile while the one being spoken of nodded.
"My elders required me to dye it when younger and use body reforging to maintain its pigment once I was able. I was a little curious if my practice of that had improved, so while traveling here I returned it to its natural state."
Another waver in Qat’s spirit caught the reborn cultivator’s attention. She figured that it was something to do with this case of willfully doing something against what she had been told to do by her family. From the swordswoman’s point of view, appearing in public and using the family name despite ignoring a tight rule would make her seem like an undutiful ’son’.
"I feel like it won’t be long until I can learn these techniques as well. When I do, would you like me to change the color of-"
"No."
The older one interrupted decisively.
"You’re... it’s good like it is."
Some of the vitality drained from the pair of mint-eyes looking up while her sound privacy barrier grew.
"Yeah. I agree. You’re also good like you are and however it is that you want to be."
The blonde nodded after a few moments to the dull voiced statement.
"That sounds like something I should be saying to you, doesn’t it?"
"You’re really trying to provoke me with this visit, aren’t you..."
Pigeon blue orbs flickered as the young woman frowned.
"That wasn’t my intent. I just wanted to see you."
The heiress reached over and grabbed her Qat’s hand before dragging the fiance out of the front entrance. If she was going to get in trouble later, she would just deal with it! She was having a lot of feelings today and felt like there was no space for caring about others. The noise of everyone else was getting in the way of the only one she was interested in.
’Isn’t it quite nice being satisfied with just seeing. I also wanted to see. And hear. And hug. Now I want everything. I want this silly backwater Guild training to be over with. I want to have that ceremony. I want to be the same age as you, so at least there isn’t an additional three years of waiting to... well, I really want us both to just be older already.’
"El, where are we headed?"
The wavy haired brunette stopped suddenly and let go of the girl she was obviously kidnapping without any plan. After only a little thought, she realized that she was both too ’old’ and too ’young’ to know what to be doing!
"I... don’t know. Where do we go for a date here for... five hours?"
Qatrand chuckled at the question.
"I thought it was a personal matter."
"I thought it was obvious that was a lie~"
Calloused fingers poked at the side of the schemer’s head.
"Was that okay? You don’t normally act like that around most people, right?"
The Yecine girl had been told a lot about nearly everything her future wife did and her reasons. At least the ones that didn’t directly infer she had been reincarnated. This included her side-jobs and the way she interacted more... forceful and self-assured. Closer to how she would be privately with Qat.
"You don’t normally show up places with that either, do you?" freewebnσvel.cøm
The young miss pointed up at the ’problematic’ hair.
"That - well, that is also true."
Elua ’giggled’ at her honesty.
"This is what I meant. You provoke me into being truer to myself. I easily stop caring about all the mental diversions I set up to distract me from the fact that I’m not glued directly to you."
The phrase she used at the end struck some part of the listener’s psyche and rang. The taller girl could not help but try to picture herself... swinging her sword with the smaller of the pair clamped fiercely and irrevocably on her back.
’That seems like... something that would need more training.’
