Chapter 443: 223 Couple (two episodes combined into one)_4

After Empress Dowager Zhuang left, Empress Xiao earnestly charged the crown princess to bear a legitimate grandchild for the royal family and bestowed upon her a nourishing soup.

Not stopping at that, Empress Xiao also summoned the crown prince and asked him to delegate some of his court duties so he could devote more time to conceive a royal heir with the crown princess.

Being dutiful, the crown prince cut short his official work and returned early to the East Palace that night.

The crown princess sat quietly in her room, a bowl of soup cooling rapidly on the table.

“Linlang.” The crown prince strode in decisively.

The crown princess stood up, turned to him and bowed, “Your Highness.”

The crown prince came forward, taking her hand with a tender look in his eyes, “We are husband and wife, there is no need for such formality when we’re alone.”

The crown princess gave a smile, “Your Highness, why have you returned so early? Have you finished dealing with the Ministry of Personnel’s affairs?”

The crown prince replied, “How could those matters be as important as you?” He noticed the medicine on the table, “Is this the soup bestowed by my mother? Why haven’t you drunk it yet? It’s getting cold.”

“It was too hot just now.” The crown princess put down her book, reaching for the bowl of medicine.

The crown prince suddenly spoke, “Linlang, do you… still have memories of your cousin?”

The crown princess looked up at him and smiled gently, “How could I? Now that I am Your Highness’s wife, you are the only one in my heart.”

“You need to forget your cousin. Your cousin can’t make you an empress, but I can.” The crown prince wrapped his arms around her slender waist, “Linlang, bear me a child.”

It was a night with dark moon and gusty winds, with the flickering candlelight swaying.

At last, the day’s lessons at Guozijian ended, Xiao Liulang, leaning on his crutch, made his way back to Bishui Alley.

The door of the courtyard was left ajar, with a single lamp glowing inside the room.

Xiao Liulang entered the courtyard, shut the door, and bolted it.

Only after entering the room did he realise Gu Jiao was waiting for him, having fallen asleep on the table from waiting for too long.

Her head was inclined to the left, resting on her arms, her cute face squished against her arms. The red birthmark on her left cheek appeared to glow dimly under the flickering candlelight.

The night breeze was cool in March.

Xiao Liulang turned around to shut the room door.

His movements were soft, but Gu Jiao still woke up.

She sat up rubbing her eyes, and upon seeing Xiao Liulang, she was instantly wide awake with sparkling eyes, “You’re back? Are you hungry? I can heat up something for you.”

Her gaze was so bright, as if it carried warmth.

Xiao Liulang unconsciously shifted his gaze away, “There’s no need, I’ve already eaten.” He paused and stressed, “Really, I have eaten.”

Gu Jiao’s gaze rested on his stomach, studying it intently, as if trying to discern whether his belly had protruded with fullness.

Xiao Liulang felt a peculiar feeling rising in his heart again.

Luckily, she eventually believed him; otherwise if she proposed that she won’t believe it unless she felt his belly herself, Xiao Liulang would have been at a loss for a response.

Gu Jiao gave a small yawn, “Then rest early, you have class tomorrow.”

Xiao Liulang nodded, and as he turned to walk to the west room, he suddenly asked her, “What if… I fail the examination? If I fall into despair and lose hope, and never achieve anything in my life…”

“I will support you.” She replied without hesitation.

“Why?”

“Because you are my husband. We are a married couple.”

Xiao Liulang felt a tug at his heart.

This girl, how could she always unwittingly say such heart-touching words?

“Ah——”

Gu Jiao suddenly sucked in a cold breath, her small eyebrows knitting together.

“What happened?” Xiao Liulang swiftly walked over, but then he realized his reaction was a bit too intense. He cleared his throat to regain his cold expression.

Gu Jiao, oblivious to the subtle changes in his emotional state, moved her arms which were numb from falling asleep, looking like a soulless puppet, “They’re numb.”

Xiao Liulang hesitated for a moment, then asked her, “Do you want…..”

“Yes.” Gu Jiao replied quickly, “A massage would help.”

Xiao Liulang took a deep breath in silence, and sat beside her.

Both of Gu Jiao’s arms had gone numb, she turned to face him directly.

Xiao Liulang gently lifted one of her hands and began to massage it with care.

His movements were soft and respectful, restricting his massage up to her forearm at the most.

“Is it still numb?” Xiao Liulang asked.

“Still numb.” Gu Jiao lied with eyes wide open.

Xiao Liulang massaged her arm for a while longer, which brought such comfort that Gu Jiao almost fell asleep again.

Xiao Liulang stared at her, took a deep breath, and gently placed her hand back on her lap, “Alright, it’s getting late. You should return to your room now.”

Gu Jiao: “Oh.”

Xiao Liulang stood up.

“Don’t you want me to give you a massage too?” Gu Jiao tilted her head to look at him, “I have good techniques. You must be tired after a long day. Are you experiencing headaches or feeling fatigued?”

The earnest look in her eyes seemed to suggest that if Xiao Liulang said no, he would be the villain.

Xiao Liulang resigned and sat back down.

“Don’t sit so far!” Gu Jiao moved her chair closer to him and began massaging him in earnest.

At first, she was within boundaries, but as she continued, her actions started to get out of hand.

Xiao Liulang looked puzzled. What do headaches or fatigue have to do with his chest?

“Does this place feel sore?”

“What about here?”

“Here.”

“Here.”

“Here!”

Xiao Liulang stiffened his entire body and once again took a deep breath.

“My shoulders aren’t sore.”

“My stomach isn’t sore.”

He had heard of sore backs from sitting too long, but never about a stomach becoming soft from it.

Gu Jiao: “Oh.”

She moved her hands somewhere else to continue her massage.

And she was quite enthusiastic about it!

Xiao Liulang didn’t know how many times he had to take a deep breath that night. He closed his eyes and said, “…..my back isn’t sore.”

“Neither are my legs.”

“My, my waist isn’t sore!”

Gu Jiao raised an eyebrow: “Oh.”

His waist was really nice to touch; so firm, without an ounce of excess fat.

Gu Jiao smacked her lips, appearing unsatisfied as her hands withdrew.

Although her hand was withdrawn, her eyes remained glued to him.

Xiao Liulang looked at her, “What are you doing?”

Gu Jiao shook her head, “Nothing, I didn’t drool!”

Xiao Liulang: “…”
