Chapter 86: The Raging Peaks 3

Into the Jaws of the Peaks, the Shattered Peaks rose like the jagged teeth of some ancient beast that have never been seen in recent times, their spires was piercing the sky that is churned with storm clouds and the air was heavy with the scent of ozone and stone.

Kelvin led the Tide’s Crest through a narrow pathway, his boots were crunching on loosed shells that were scattered everywhere, each step they took was a careful dance to avoid the thin drops that was covering their path.

His staff was held tightly in his hand which was pulsed with fire runes and its warmth was a faint shield against the biting wind that was flooding the whole place.

The flame carved pendant that was around his neck swung with his movements.

It was a reminder of their victories in the Shadow Fen Marshes, Iron Crags, Ember fall Wastes, and Abyssal Hollow, each triumph was a stepping stone to this moment, yet they were over shadowed by the Veil’s relentless shadow that was troubling them at the moment.

The cloaked figure’s challenge kept lingering in his mind, which was a cold weight that tightened his chest with every might and it has been a great concern.

Xerion, the End-Tyrant, was moving beside him, his massive serpentine form was a cascade of crimson and gold scales that shimmered like molten metal in the dim light of the peak.

The ancient beast, a Level 8 Legendary beast whose legend stretched back to the Great Rift War, moved with a grace that belied his twenty-foot length, his amber eyes scanned the cliffs with ageless wisdom.

His breath, was a low hiss that vibrated the air, and it carried the promise of flames that could melt stone, yet his presence was a steady warmth, their 80% sync ratio was a blazing anchor in Kelvin’s heart.

Xerion’s head nudged his side, as he sensed his unease, and Kelvin rested a hand on the serpent’s scales and their heat grounded him.

"You are quiet," Lyra said, with her voice cutting through the wind as she walked to his left, her silver braid swayed with each step.

Her shadow-etched gauntlet glowed faintly, the new runes she had crafted that pulsed with dark energy. Salaris, her shadow-cloaked raptor, flickered at her side, her iridescent feathers blended with the gray mist, her talons clicked softly on the stone.

Lyra’s green eyes was sharp despite the fatigue that etched into her face which met Kelvin’s eyes with a mix of concern and determination and she asked him. "Are you still thinking about Zack’s warning?"

Kelvin nodded with his jaw tight. "He knows something, Lyra. That smugness that he displayed is not just his usual garbage. And that cloaked figure... they are connected to the Veil and I am sure of it."

Darius moved to his right hand side, his broad frame hunched against the wind, his hazel eyes was glinted with a stubborn defiance.

Rhoam, his iron-plated panther, lumbered behind him, his massive paws was sending shells skittering and his iron plates clinked like armor.

Darius tossed a soulstone into the air, catching it with a grin that didn’t quite reach his eyes. "Let them scheme," he said, with his voice rough from the cold. "We have got Xerion, Salaris, and Rhoam. No rift is gonna outsmart the Crest."

Kelvin managed a faint smile, Darius’s bravado was a spark against the chill in his heart. "You are right," he said, though the weight of their mission pressed down like the cliffs above. "But we will stay sharp. The Peaks don’t forgive mistakes."

The monitoring device in Kelvin’s pack hummed, its runes pulsed with a new message: "Rift energy is intensifying. The terrain is unstable. Proceed with caution."

The Sanctum’s watchful eyes were a comfort, but the device’s intermittent flickering hinted at the rift’s interference which was a reminder that they were venturing into the unknown.

They had been climbing for hours, the pass grew narrower, the cliffs closed in like a vice. The air was thick with the scent of damp stone and decayed matters, a faint pulse of dark energy thrummed beneath their feet.

Flashbacks of their training in the Sanctum’s yard flooded Kelvin’s mind, days spent in nurturing their skills after the Hollow, pushing their limits to prepare for this trial.

He had meditated with Xerion, their bond was deepened as he visualized their sync ratio climbing, the End-Tyrant’s flames burned brighter with each session.

Lyra had refined her shadow runes and her gauntlet is now capable of weaving complex bindings that amplified Salaris’s stealth.

Darius had practiced his soulstone blasts, his aim was sharper, Rhoam’s charges synchronized seamlessly with his commands.

"Remember the drills" Lyra said, her voice was low as she scanned the cliffs. "We were unstoppable in the yard and wee can do this, so let’s do it."

Kelvin nodded in agreement, drawing strength from her words. "We have got this under control. Together."

The pass opened into a rocky plateau, the ground was littered with jagged stones and twisted roots that pulsed faintly with violet light.

The air grew heavier, the pulse of dark energy was stronger now, like a heartbeat echoing from the Peaks’ heart.

They paused to rest, their beasts were settling nearby, Xerion coiled into a protective ring, Salaris perching on a boulder, Rhoam sprawling across the ground with his iron plates gleaming in the storm’s flicker.

Kelvin pulled out the monitoring device, its holographic display flickered to life, showing their silhouettes alongside Xerion’s serpentine form, Salaris’s sleek outline, and Rhoam’s hulking shape.

A new message scrolled across: "Rogue beast activity detected. Prepare for the engagement." His heart sank, the warning was a cold confirmation of the danger ahead.

Before he could speak out, a loud sound echoed from the cliffs above him, followed by the skitter of claws on the stone.

"Form up!" Kelvin shouted, alerting his people, Xerion reared up, his flames was ignited in a blazing arc that lit up the plateau.
