Chapter 429: Chapter 417: Ah, after coming up with more than 400 names, I don’t want to anymore_2
Upon entering, she saw a row of houses forming a circle.
Lu Jingqiu noted that this circle had a total of ten rooms.
Teacher Dong pointed to the furthest room in the corner on the left and said, "This is the room that Director Wang has arranged for you."
With key in hand, when she opened the door, she saw a small cooking stove, a not-so-big kang bed, a table that was neither new nor old, a chair, and each had a heating radiator.
"Teacher Dong, do you also live on campus?"
"I live on campus too, my room is the second one from the entrance. All the unmarried female teachers live in this courtyard. Teacher Lu, are you married?"
"Yes, I am married, and my child is already three years old."
"I couldn’t tell."
"Where do you usually eat?"
"Some teachers cook for themselves, some eat in the cafeteria."
"Oh."
After leaving the dormitory and thanking Teacher Dong, Lu Jingqiu stepped out of the school gate.
Her aunt and second cousin were sitting on the curb with the children, drinking sodas.
Seeing her come out, they eagerly asked, "How did it go?"
"All set, but I need to get a photo ID taken."
"Let’s go, I saw a photo studio on the way here," her second cousin said.
Her aunt inquired, "How’s the place?"
"It’s quite spacious, and they’ve even assigned me a dorm room. But I’m not planning to live there right now."
"That’s fine, you can decide to stay when it gets colder. When do you start work?"
"Next Monday. The salary is twenty-five a month, with enough food tickets for half a month, plus a teaching experience allowance. But I don’t have teaching experience, no seniority bonus either, a living allowance of eight yuan, incentive pay and fees for books and newspapers of eight yuan, sanitary expenses of five yuan, transportation of two yuan, totaling forty-eight. Then subtract rent of sixty-five cents, furniture rental of thirty cents, utilities of thirty cents, magazine subscription fees of ten yuan, and I’ll have a little over thirty-seven yuan left."
"That’s quite normal. No matter where you work, it’s all about accumulating seniority, especially for teachers," her aunt commented.
"Right."
Lu Jingqiu went to get her ID photo taken and then visited the agricultural market, buying many local special agricultural products to give to her aunt, since her aunt was leaving on Friday.
In the evening, she discussed her new job with Jiang Nanzhou.
Only then did they realize that with a wife going to work, the child needed care.
Lu Jingqiu had planned ahead and visited the two kindergartens at the factory the next day.
There were not only Nursery Classes but also a day care center.
The day care was for infants and toddlers aged a few months to two years old, Cared for by family members in their forties and fifties, it accommodated the largest number of employees’ children.
Lu Jingqiu looked at the kindergartens, which were for children over three years old, one adjacent to the primary school of Mechanical Factory No. 1 and the other next to the residential building of Mechanical Factory No. 2.
She and her aunt visited both places. Both kindergartens were constructed uniformly, and the spaces were extensive, nearly as large as primary schools, with one-story brick buildings.
The layout was open, with two classes each for large, middle, and small groups.
Besides the teachers’ office, there were only classrooms, two classes shared a dormitory with little beds, and several rooms were attached to a boiler room.
One storage room was filled with miscellaneous items.
There were a total of five classes next to the primary school.
Six classes in total next to the residential building, both places being quite spacious.
There was a large activity area in front of the classrooms.
In the mountains, space was never scarce.
The kindergarten next to the primary school had a retired teacher serving as the principal.
The one next to the residential building was headed by a family member of a director from a family compound.
Most of the teachers there were also family members.
Lu Jingqiu was evaluating the dedication of the teachers, while her aunt was looking at the children’s meals.
Lu Jingqiu allowed Xiao Cheng and Yang Yang to play inside for a while as she observed the teachers.
After a whole day, Lu Jingqiu preferred the kindergarten next to the primary school, where a grade one teacher was highly responsible.
The teacher was about twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, and according to the principal, her child was in the middle grade two class.
Lu Jingqiu inquired further and found out that both kindergartens and the day care center in the factory were free of charge. This was so employees could work without worry.
There was also no need to worry about picking up and dropping off the kids. Just bring the child to the kindergarten on the way to work and pick them up on the way back—so convenient!
"Xiao Cheng, do you like this kindergarten?"
"Mommy, there are so many kids here."
"Would you like to play with them tomorrow?"
"Yes, yes!"
"But you mustn’t cry, okay?" her aunt said with a smile. "Your brother Yang Yang cried for a week when he first started kindergarten."
Yang Yang retorted, "Grandma, I didn’t cry."
"All right, you didn’t cry. Yang Yang is the best behaved," she replied.
