Chapter 219: Chapter 219: Writing hn Couplet

In the blink of an eye, the New Year was almost here, and the streets began to feel the festive spirit, the atmosphere was particularly strong.

"Hmm, the weather is starting to warm up gradually too."

Holly opened the window, yawned and said.

The temperature during the Spring Festival has always been a bit warmer, compared to now.

Once the Spring Festival passes, spring arrives, bidding farewell to the biting winter and welcoming the warm sun.

"Do you have any New Year wishes?"

Leo stood by Holly, slowly asking in a gentle tone.

The New Year was approaching, and it was the first one he and Holly would spend together, making it feel significant to him.

"Yes, I do."

Holly turned her head to look at Leo, her face full of smiles.

She had a lot of New Year wishes.

"It’s to be with you forever, brother."

Holly playfully blinked and slowly said.

This year’s New Year wish for her was to stay with Leo forever and ever.

"That wish is too easy, pick a tougher one."

Leo’s large hand landed on Holly’s head, and he slightly curled his lips into a smile with satisfaction.

Holly’s wish was simple because he also hoped they could be together forever.

Both of their wishes were surprisingly the same, so it was bound to be especially easy to realize.

"Okay, I’ll think about it."

"Anyway, there’s still time; it’s not New Year yet, I’ll think it over carefully."

Holly gently bit her lip, nodded thoughtfully, and said.

She also hoped that being together forever would be a simple thing.

"Alright."

Leo nodded.

"Brother, do you know how to write with a brush?"

Holly suddenly asked, her eyes bright as if she’d just thought of a mischievous idea.

"A little, why?"

Leo nodded.

He had learned a little but wasn’t proficient.

"Wait for me a moment."

Holly quickly ran upstairs.

Leo looked on in confusion, not quite understanding what mischief Holly was planning now.

"Brother, write a couplet by hand, and we can put it on the wall together."

When Holly came downstairs, she had a few sheets of red paper in her hand and looked at Leo expectantly.

Though the purchased couplets weren’t badly written, she believed it was different from writing them by hand.

Leo nodded, "Okay."

But he had never written a couplet before and wasn’t sure how he’d do on the spot.

"Have you ever written them before, brother?"

Holly tilted her head to look at Leo, her eyes showing a scrutinizing gleam.

Having never written one might waste a lot of paper, so she planned to buy more red paper in case Leo needed it.

"No, I haven’t."

Leo shook his head.

"Alright, I’ll have someone send more red paper."

Holly nodded thoughtfully, then made a call to have more red paper delivered.

"Why?"

Leo was a bit confused since Holly already had red paper which seemed to be enough, so why order more?

"For you to practice, brother."

Holly playfully blinked.

Knowing how to write with a brush doesn’t mean you can write couplets well, so a little practice is needed to get the feel of it.

In past New Years, when she spent it with Rose Sawyer, it was always Rose who wrote the couplets by hand and even did the drawings herself.

Rose wrote beautifully with a brush and was good at drawing, so she did those New Year tasks herself.

Rose said that things written and drawn by yourself feel more meaningful.

"Sure, I can."

Leo nodded, not daring to guarantee he wouldn’t make any mistakes.

He knew how to use a brush, but he wasn’t proficient.

"You write, brother, and I’ll draw."

Holly gently bit her lip and slowly said in a soft tone.

A mix of tasks between a man and a woman makes the work easier.

They could easily collaborate.

Leo nodded, "Alright."

Holly took out the brush and ink and handed them to Leo, who spread the red paper on the floor, trying a few test strokes to consider how best to start writing.

Holly leaned closer to Leo, watching him intently.

She actually knew how to write couplets, and influenced by Rose, she found it hard not to learn.

Rose would push her to learn everything she knew, under the pretext that a daughter must surpass her mother in what she can do.

"It’s possible my brushwork isn’t great. Don’t be mad about it, Holly."

Leo hesitated for a moment, then prepared to start writing, glancing at Holly and slowly said.

He wasn’t a professional and feared Holly would tease him for his poor handwriting.

"No way, anything you write is the best-looking, brother."

Holly playfully blinked.

She wouldn’t mind; as long as Leo wrote it, she would find it beautiful.

Leo’s flourishing brushwork filled the red paper with the couplet, its size perfectly proportioned, and the style was elegant, pleasing to the eye.

"See, you said it’d be ugly, but it looks great!"

Holly pouted at Leo and slowly said.

Leo’s calligraphy indeed looked great.

"I was worried you wouldn’t like it, Holly."

Leo finished writing the couplet, gently ruffled Holly’s hair, and said softly.

Whether it looked good wasn’t the point; what mattered was if Holly liked it. Everyone has a different aesthetic taste, so his style might not be to her liking.

"How could that be?"

Holly said.

"Where are we planning to spend New Year’s?"

Holly asked aloud.

She would certainly spend New Year with Leo. Rose Sawyer had gone traveling yet again and wouldn’t return, so she didn’t expect to spend it with her.

"We’ll have Noah and the others over for dinner on New Year’s Eve, or you could invite your friends."

"On the first day of the New Year, come with me to the old house to spend time with my grandpa, is that alright?"

Leo thought for a while and slowly said.

That was his wish; he just wasn’t sure if Holly would agree.

"Sure."

Holly nodded, showing no intention of refusing.

She had met Leo’s grandpa many times and had a good relationship with him, so she didn’t mind spending time with him.

"What about your mom?"

Leo asked Holly.

Holly had mentioned bringing him to spend New Year with her mom, but recently said it wasn’t needed.

"She’s traveling, no need to bother about her."

Holly yawned and casually said.

Leo nodded thoughtfully.

Meanwhile, Holly had finished her drawing.

The two exchanged a glance and shared a knowing smile.
