Chapter 50: Level Up Again

"This isn’t a development I like," Leonardo said with a sigh.

"From your point of view, it may seem strange," Margaret replied, returning to her arrogant tone, "but this woman standing before you is one of the most beautiful women in this country and the heir to billions of dollars."

Leonardo rolled his eyes.

Suddenly, Margaret’s gaze sharpened.

"Anderson, don’t think I believe you just because you look confused. Who knows what vile scheme you’re thinking about right now with this opportunity. You’re not a good person. Not only did you steal from me, you’ve also committed many murders to raise your level," she said coldly.

"So you see me as that terrible, yet you still like me. That’s pretty funny," Leonardo replied.

"I can only say birds flock with birds and dogs stay with dogs. Of course, I also have hopes for the future like my grandparents. If we join forces, we could accomplish many profitable things."

After saying that, Margaret finally stood up.

But just as she was about to take a step, she suddenly kicked the sofa.

BANG!

The sofa was sent flying into the wall and split in half.

"Damn you, Anderson! You’re driving me crazy with all your nonsense!"

"If you go crazy, I wouldn’t mind marrying you. I’d even take good care of you," Leonardo replied casually.

"You—!"

Margaret’s eyes widened as she gasped.

Her face turned red and her body trembled.

Cough! Cough!

She suddenly began coughing violently.

Although she didn’t cough up blood like last time, she clutched her chest.

"What’s wrong with you?" Leonardo stood up instinctively.

Of course he was a little worried.

Last time she had actually fainted. Leonardo definitely didn’t want her collapsing in his apartment.

Besides, he didn’t know whether this was some serious condition that required special treatment.

But it was clear now that Margaret seemed to have some kind of congenital illness that flared up when her emotions became too unstable.

Cough! Cough!

She continued coughing and even dropped to the floor.

A large white pill suddenly appeared in her hand.

She immediately shoved it into her mouth, then looked at Leonardo and waved her hand weakly, unable to speak.

Leonardo quickly realized what she wanted.

Water.

He rushed to the refrigerator and grabbed a bottle.

"Drink quickly!" he said, pressing the bottle to her lips.

With the help of the water, the large pill slid down her throat.

Soon her trembling body gradually calmed.

Her wide eyes slowly relaxed.

The coughing stopped, though she still looked weak.

Leonardo saw no sign that she was pretending.

Her body had truly weakened drastically despite her high level.

It was as if she had just fought with everything she had, pushing far beyond her limits.

All her strength seemed to have been drained just to suppress whatever condition had flared up.

"Do you need to go to the hospital?" Leonardo asked.

If she had fainted, he would have hesitated to take her. But since she was still conscious, it was slightly better.

Of course, he wouldn’t take her to Neptune Star Hospital.

It would have to be another one.

"No need. I’m fine now," Margaret replied.

She stood up, staggering slightly, but quickly stabilized herself before walking toward the door.

Leonardo simply watched her.

She could walk on her own.

He sat down again and lit another cigarette, thinking about how this situation had suddenly turned into some kind of drama. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

What worried him the most was the upcoming meeting with James Harvey.

Margaret might speak well of her father, but in City Z, who didn’t know he was responsible for many brutal acts?

Leonardo didn’t believe that man had no hidden intentions in arranging a relationship between him and his daughter.

If it were only Margaret, Leonardo was confident he could handle whatever came and squeeze as much benefit as possible from the situation.

In his eyes, Margaret was just a beautiful woman who relied heavily on her family’s power.

But once James Harvey was involved, things would no longer be the same.

(Liam, why has your leveling slowed down?) Leonardo shifted his attention.

Occasionally, he still received notifications that Liam had gained EXP, but the amounts were small and the intervals were long.

(Boss, I’m having trouble finding monsters. For some reason, there are fewer monsters at night. The ones I do find are often fighting Awakener groups.) Liam replied.

What’s going on? Leonardo frowned.

There had never been any information saying monsters became fewer at night on Floor 2.

On any floor, night was usually when monster groups became more active.

Curious, Leonardo opened the City Z Awakener Forum, specifically the section discussing Floor 2.

Soon he found several interesting posts.

Apparently this had been happening for the past two days, but only in Layer 17.

Many people were asking what was happening, yet no one knew the answer.

People were still trying to investigate.

But it seemed that those who went to investigate never returned to write about what they found.

"Well..." Leonardo already felt like there were too many things to think about.

So he decided not to worry about it for now.

He went to his room, took a shower, and went to sleep.

He was already exhausted.

Since he slept early, he woke up early as well—around 5 AM, when the sky was still dark.

(Ellie, how did you gain three levels?) he asked in surprise.

The first thing he checked after waking up was the status of his two monsters.

Liam hadn’t leveled up.

But Ellie had reached Level 14, when previously she had only been Level 11.

Because of that, Leonardo himself had also reached Level 14, gaining 13 Evolution Points without even realizing it.

(Boss, I drank an Ascension Potion Level 14.) Ellie answered casually.

(Seriously? Where did you get that?)

(It was one of the three rewards from that gate. Since it’s meant for monsters, I thought it suited me best. You’re not upset, right, Boss?)

Leonardo: "..."

(No... no, don’t worry...) he replied, though even he wasn’t convinced by his own words.

If he had known earlier, he might not have given it to Ellie.

But since it had already happened, he didn’t want to blame her.

He sighed and asked,

(What about the other two items?)
