Chapter 559: Chapter 559: Sleepless Night

The night was cool as water, with breezes blowing by.

In Capital City tonight, most people were destined to have a sleepless night.

The Songs’ villa caught fire, and Song Yigang, Song Gui, and Song Lie were killed in the villa’s study.

Meanwhile, Song Feng, Song Bin, and Hu Lu met their tragic ends at Guang’ai Private Hospital.

Ever since the news about the Songs appeared on various websites of Huaxia Country, all direct members of the Songs were killed within a mere eight or nine hours. This shocking news undoubtedly rocked all the prominent families of Capital City.

Right after the massacre of the Songs’ direct lineage, the pertinent authorities of Capital City immediately intervened in the investigation, but not a single clue was found. Normally, there would be soldiers guarding the entrance to the Songs’ villa. Even members of the Soldier King Group wouldn’t be able to enter the villa undetected.

Furthermore, the authorities of Capital City retrieved the surveillance footage from Guang’ai Private Hospital. In the footage, all they saw was a young doctor wearing a white surgical mask and coat entering the hospital room of Song Bin and the others, never to be seen leaving again.

It was preliminarily determined that this young doctor was the murderer, but it was unfortunate that the person had worn the white surgical mask the entire time, making it impossible to see their true face. The authorities searched the hospital room meticulously for clues to solve the case but found nothing whatsoever in the end.

They could only determine that the murderer disguised as a doctor had escaped from the hospital room window. But the room was on the third floor. How could the murderer just leave through a window three floors up?

From entering the Songs’ villa without alerting anyone, to escaping directly from the third-floor hospital room window, the authorities concluded that both incidents were carried out by the same person. They were sure that the individual who slaughtered the Songs’ direct lineage was an exceptional master. Finding the murderer who had killed the members of the Songs was proving to be harder than reaching heaven, given the extremely limited clues the authorities had in hand.

As all the prominent families of Capital City were in a state of panic, speculating about who the perpetrator behind the massacre of the Songs’ direct lineage could be, Ye Chenfeng had already left the vicinity of Guang’ai Private Hospital. He removed his blood-stained white coat, found a quiet alley, and incinerated it before heading back to the Yes’ residence.

In the living room of the Yes’ villa.

The Yes’ patriarch, Ye Zhenhong, the Wus’ patriarch, Wu Anguo, Wu Xiaofei, Ye Dongjian, Wu Kunming, and Bai Xueling were all anxiously looking toward the entrance of the living room. It had been a good eight or nine hours since Ye Chenfeng had gone out in the afternoon to buy medicinal herbs, and during this time, there were no news about Chenfeng from the Yes.

"Anguo, I can’t help but feel uneasy," Ye Zhenhong said, his face filled with worry. "The Songs’ direct lineage has been completely wiped out, and tonight’s Capital City is in utter chaos. I’m worried something might have happened to Chenfeng."

Wu Anguo tried to comfort him, "Zhenhong, let’s be patient and wait a little longer. Haven’t we already sent people out to search for Chenfeng’s whereabouts? You should believe in his skills. With his capability, even if he encounters someone stronger than him, he should have no problem getting away safely."

Bai Xueling’s face was etched with guilt. Ye Chenfeng had gone to the pharmacy to buy medicinal herbs for her grandfather’s treatment. If something really happened to Chenfeng, then she, Bai Xueling, would never be able to repay the Yes’ kindness, even if she worked like an ox or a horse.

Wu Xiaofei walked alone towards the entrance of the Yes’ living room. Wu Anguo asked, "Xiaofei, where are you going?"

"Grandpa, I’m going to wait for Chenfeng at the entrance of the living room. I believe that nothing will happen to Chenfeng," said Wu Xiaofei. Although her words sounded relaxed, her concern was no less than any of the others present.

Standing at the entrance of the living room and looking out into the thick night, Xiaofei vaguely saw a shadow approaching. When she made out the shadow’s features, a joyful smile couldn’t help but break out on her face. She stepped forward and said, "Chenfeng, where have you been? Don’t you know we’ve all been really worried about you?"

Ye Chenfeng’s complexion was somewhat pale. He reached out to touch Wu Xiaofei’s smooth cheek and said, "Xiaofei, I’m back now, aren’t I? Next time, if I’m going to be late, I’ll definitely call to let you know."

When the people in the Yes’ living room saw Ye Chenfeng and Wu Xiaofei walking in together, they finally put their hearts at ease. Ye Chenfeng walked over to Bai Xueling and said, "I’ll help purge the toxins from your grandfather’s body tomorrow. I’m a bit tired today."

"Grandpa, Uncle Wu, Uncle, Wu Uncle, I’m going to rest first." With that, Ye Chenfeng headed upstairs.

Watching Ye Chenfeng ascend the stairs, Wu Anguo said, "Zhenhong, why do I feel that there’s something off about Chenfeng?"

Ye Zhenhong nodded in agreement and replied, "I’ll go upstairs and check on Chenfeng in a bit. It’s getting late, you should head back and rest too. The direct line of the Songs has been annihilated, and there will probably be an emergency high-level meeting tomorrow morning."

...

Upstairs in the Ye residence, in Ye Chenfeng’s room.

Ye Chenfeng sat on the open balcony, with a case of Wuliangye beside him, holding a family photo of three in his hand. In the photo, a much younger Ye Chenfeng stood between a man and a woman, both beaming with smiles – his parents.

Although since his rebirth Ye Chenfeng had not once seen his parents, the integration of his soul with this body made memories of them exceptionally clear in his mind, hence his feelings for his parents remained profoundly deep.

He opened a bottle of Wuliangye and poured it fiercely into his mouth. The pain in his chest intensified as he did so. Ye Chenfeng was severely internally injured, in no condition to drink, especially not as ferociously as he was doing. It could only worsen the injury within him, but tonight, he just wanted to drink, to drown his sorrows and forget his woes.

Ye Zhenhong and Ye Dongjian didn’t know when they entered Ye Chenfeng’s room and saw him drinking on the balcony. Ye Zhenhong sighed softly and said, "Dongjian, let’s go talk with Chenfeng."

Ye Zhenhong and Ye Dongjian sat down on either side of Ye Chenfeng on the balcony. Ye Zhenhong asked, "Chenfeng, was it you who slaughtered the Song family?"

"Glug! Glug! Glug!"

After finishing off a bottle of Wuliangye, Ye Chenfeng nodded and said, "Yes, grandpa. The Songs colluded with the Xuantian Sect to orchestrate my parents’ car accident. They all had to die."

Ye Zhenhong, having suspected something when Ye Chenfeng returned, and now hearing the confession, opened a bottle of Wuliangye and said, "Chenfeng, today your grandpa will drink with you."

Ye Dongjian’s eyes turned blood red as he grabbed a bottle of Wuliangye and exclaimed, "Chenfeng, you should’ve called me too. The bastards of the Song family deserved to die, deserved to die."

With that, Ye Dongjian drank fiercely in a life-threatening manner, his brotherly bond with Ye Chenfeng’s father deep and strong.

Suddenly standing up from the ground, Ye Chenfeng pointed at the vast night sky and declared, "Grandpa, Uncle, one day I will enter the Ancient Martial World and send everyone from the Xuantian Sect to King Yama. Only then can I face my parents’ spirits in heaven!"

No sooner had the liquor hit his lips, that Ye Chenfeng felt his chest pain intensify beyond bound. Unable to hold back any longer, he spat out a mixture of blood and alcohol.

The hazy blood mist scattered into the air. Ye Zhenhong and Ye Dongjian, looking up from their seats on the ground, felt as if the fresh blood had dyed the starry sky entirely red.

"Chenfeng, you’re injured and yet you drink? You’re really being reckless," Ye Zhenhong chided him as he quickly stood up to support Ye Chenfeng, then turned to Ye Dongjian, "Dongjian, hurry, call a doctor to the Ye residence."

After laying Ye Chenfeng down on the bed, he still had traces of blood on the corner of his mouth and soon after, light snores could be heard. Ye Zhenhong looked at his grandson lying on the bed and muttered to himself, "Chenfeng, you’ve really had a hard time. The burden you carry is far too heavy. I believe if your parents could see you now, they would be extremely proud of you." (To be continued.
