The Supreme Soldier in the City-Chapter 563 - 574: Insight
Chapter 563: Chapter 574: Insight
Alice Brown sat in James Brown’s car, initially focusing intently on the two cars belonging to the criminals. However, watching James drive so swiftly, almost colliding with other vehicles several times, her heart was in her throat. But after following for a while, James’s car gradually distanced itself from the other cars, and she couldn’t help but urgently say, "Big Brother Brown, hurry up, we’re going to lose them."
James calmly replied, "Right now, we need to let them think they’ve escaped the police. Only then will they take further action. They can’t keep driving those two police vans indefinitely. If they don’t think they’ve shaken off the police, they’ll remain in those two vehicles. Even if they run out of gas and we force them to stop, as long as they’ve got hostages, we still can’t do anything to them."
Alice worriedly said, "But if we can’t catch up to them, won’t they be able to escape?"
"No, I know where they’re heading." James flashed a subtle smile.
"You know?" Alice widened her eyes in disbelief.
James nodded and said, "Even though they seem to be driving randomly and not taking the same routes, no matter how much they turn, they haven’t left the vicinity of F Street. Near F Street, there’s an auto repair shop with two vans parked there; that’s where they’re headed." free𝑤ebnovel.com
Alice widened her eyes in surprise at James, asking, "Big Brother Brown, when did you figure this out?"
"Haha, I just guessed. Following them right now isn’t much help; let’s see if I’m right." James chuckled, swerved, and forced an Audi A4 that had just left the gas station to stop.
James jumped out of the car and flashed a badge in front of the driver, saying, "Police business, I need to commandeer your vehicle."
The driver, a young man in his twenties, was taken aback and didn’t get out but instead frantically tried to roll up the window. For a regular person, encountering a situation where police commandeer a car is too rare. With so many scams nowadays involving impersonating police officers, he instinctively thought James was trying to con him and steal his car.
James furrowed his brow, ready to pull the guy out and take the car, when Alice smiled at the driver, saying, "Excuse me, I’m Alice Brown from the TV station. We’re filming a show right now; could you cooperate a bit?"
The driver, surprisingly, recognized Alice at once and excitedly said, "You’re really Alice Brown."
James smiled again and winked at the driver, saying, "That’s me. The police are on a case; I’m cooperating for filming. Please help out and take our police car to the Public Security Bureau. We’ll send your car there, and you’ll be on TV then."
"Okay, sure!" The driver opened the car door and got out, grinning excitedly.
Without hesitation, James got into the car, and Alice followed, shaking the driver’s hand as they left, making him overjoyed.
As the car started again, Alice smiled sweetly at James, saying, "Big Brother Brown, did you see? I’m useful too."
James couldn’t help but grin, responding, "Indeed, the beauty effect is pretty significant. How else would there be the ’honey trap’?"
"Anyway, as long as you don’t think I’m useless, that’s good." Alice swayed her head happily.
James drove to the opposite side of the repair shop he’d mentioned earlier. In less than two minutes, the two police vans drove over. Alice excitedly exclaimed, "Here they come, they’re really here!"
The two vans parked in the repair bays inside, quickly pulling out the hostages and jumping into two other vans. Then, two people from the repair shop swiftly drove away the police vans, while the rest drove off in the new vans.
This time, they didn’t drive fast or exceed the speed limit. James leisurely drove behind them, keeping a few cars in between, not worrying about being discovered.
Alice, filled with excitement, looked at James and said, "Big Brother Brown, you’re amazing! You figured out where they would change vehicles so quickly."
Previously, Alice liked James for being low-profile and his vibrant aura, but she didn’t know how capable he was. Now she realized, James not only had status and position but also such strong abilities, which made her like him even more.
After being excited for a while, Alice worriedly said, "Big Brother Brown, shouldn’t we inform the police?"
James shook his head, saying, "No, I don’t want you to tell anyone about this either; I’ll resolve it myself."
Alice exclaimed, "Big Brother Brown, there are ten of them, and they have guns. It’s too dangerous; we ought to call the police."
James remarked, "They have hostages. Large-scale actions aren’t effective. If we want to rescue the hostages, we have to act covertly, so more people aren’t necessarily helpful."
"But... there’s only us... and how are we supposed to deal with armed criminals?" Alice stammered.
"Not us, just me. When they settle, you wait. I’ll finish things and come out to get you."
"Just you?" Alice looked at James, more astonished.
James reached over and lightly patted her arm, saying, "Don’t worry, I won’t be harmed. Just a few small-time crooks can’t hurt me."
"This..." Alice’s mouth twitched. Even though James was resolute, he was alone facing so many criminals. "Big Brother Brown, what if something happens to you?"
James laughed heartily, saying, "You’re not hoping for me to get in trouble, are you?"
"But it’s too dangerous."
"Danger makes it exciting. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t risk my life; I won’t let you down."
Seeing James’s determination, Alice, despite her concerns, held back, feeling how handsome he was—like a movie hero facing ten armed criminals alone.
The criminals’ vehicle smoothly drove out of the city towards the seaside. This road was straightforward, and their speed increased. James pressed the gas pedal, and the Audi A4 overtook the two vans.
"Big Brother Brown, why did you overtake them?" Alice asked in confusion.
James responded with a smile, "I’m driving an Audi A4 now; if I keep following the two vans, don’t you think they’ll get suspicious?"
"That’s true, but... what if they suddenly change direction?"
James shook his head, saying, "It’s unlikely. I’m not sure of their goal, but with such a big incident, they definitely won’t stay in YODC City. Leaving by land isn’t feasible; the two police vehicles can’t fool the cops for long. Whether on highways or regular roads, police checks are inevitable, and nearby counties will assist in the investigation. They simply can’t go far, and flying is out of the question. Their only option is by water, and large docks are impossible, so it has to be smaller ports. Moreover, they don’t have much time; once the police realize they’ve been duped, even small ports will be inspected. They must leave quickly by water; there’s a small port ahead on this road, and that’s likely their destination."
Alice listened to James’s analysis, speechless, before finally giving him a thumbs-up, saying, "Big Brother Brown, your judgment is incredibly admirable. I have no idea how you figured all this out."
James smiled lightly, saying, "If someone has a purpose, there’s always a trace. Carefully discover it, and you can figure it out."
Alice slightly furrowed her brow, seemingly lost in thought. After a while, she suddenly turned and winked at James, asking, "Did you figure out what my purpose with you is?"
James coughed lightly. He’s quite aware of Alice’s and Laura’s little intentions. These two initially wanted to stick with him with great ulterior motives, but as they spent more time, their motives waned, and their genuine liking for him grew.
James isn’t narcissistic but possesses sharp discernment. Being with them, he’s able to see their true intentions. Like Lucy Campbell, who once fooled him completely—her noble status led to intense self-suggestion. But aside from Lucy, James won’t repeat such mistakes.
Alice pouted and said, "Big Brother Brown, you’re really heartless. Laura and I have been hoping for you, but you never came. You even promised us before but broke it again."
James smiled and said, "Sorry, I’ve been caught up with things recently, so I haven’t visited. But I won’t go back on my promise to you."
James doesn’t intend to get involved with them further, but being good friends is nice, so he doesn’t want to strain relations.
Alice quickly said, "This time, no lying to us. If you deceive us again, we’ll storm into your home!"
James instantly gave a dry cough, thinking how it seems women nowadays know this trick all too well.
