The Supreme Soldier in the City-Chapter 565 - 576: I Am the First
Chapter 565: Chapter 576: I Am the First
The remaining thug saw that eight of his fellows had died and the boss had jumped into the sea to escape. At this point, he had no will to fight and wanted to jump into the sea to escape as well.
He and Helen Wilson were evenly matched. At first, he let Helen sneak attack him and suffered some injuries, always on the defensive. Now, without the will to fight, he was at a disadvantage. Just as he wanted to turn around and jump into the sea, Helen swept his thigh with a whip kick, making him fall onto the deck with a thud. Helen bent her right leg and knelt on John’s back, grabbing the thug’s right hand and twisting it hard, rendering him completely powerless to struggle.
Killing isn’t her thing, but doing something like this, Helen is quite adept.
"Hey, you go and bring back that boss quickly." Helen had subdued the last thug on the ship but saw that James Brown was still standing on the ship, and she shouted loudly, almost blurting out James Brown’s name, but changed it just before speaking.
James Brown looked at the sea with his hands behind his back and said, "Are you ordering me?"
If it were James Brown, Helen wouldn’t mind ordering him because, after all, he’s her man. But now that James is under the guise of the Mysterious Figure, Helen didn’t want to break the illusion and naturally couldn’t command him, plus seeing James with his hands behind his back trying to look cool, Helen couldn’t help but find it amusing. That showoff!
Softening her tone, Helen said, "That escaping guy is the key figure among them, and you must catch him, otherwise he’ll keep causing harm."
James Brown shook his head and said, "To go into the sea for trash like that, I definitely won’t do it."
Helen glared fiercely at James Brown from behind and said, "What if I beg you, please catch that guy."
"What’s in it for me?" James Brown asked calmly.
"Whatever you want, I’ll give you whatever benefit you want," Helen blurted out.
"Alright, I want you to accompany me tonight."
"Okay!" Helen answered readily and without hesitation, feeling secretly pleased inside. "You want me to accompany you tonight, don’t you? I’ll agree and see how you come find me tonight."
James Brown hadn’t expected Helen to agree so readily, and with some suspicion, he turned to look at Helen and said, "I’m not joking, are you really agreeing?"
Meeting James Brown’s gaze, Helen resolutely said, "Of course I agree, you’ve helped me so many times, you even saved my life, if you want to find me, why would I disagree?"
James Brown actually felt a bit uneasy and, frowning, said, "Didn’t you say last time you already have a boyfriend? Don’t you want to betray your boyfriend?"
Seeing that James Brown looked a bit displeased, Helen felt even more pleased and deliberately sulked, saying, "That bastard has women outside, so why can’t I have a man? Besides, I’ve always admired you deeply. I’m willing to do anything for you."
James Brown still hadn’t realized that Helen had recognized him. Her attitude really made him uncomfortable. He and Helen hadn’t been together many times, but he had taken her virginity. Even if he couldn’t marry Helen, he unconsciously regarded Helen as his woman. Now that his own woman wanted to sleep with another man, how could he not feel anything about it?
"Go catch him quickly! As long as you catch him, you can do whatever you want with me tonight," urged Helen once more.
James Brown rolled his eyes and snorted; he hadn’t really planned to catch that thug but didn’t feel like moving now.
"Bastard, if you don’t help me catch him, I’ll make sure you regret it," Helen shouted as she saw James Brown still unmoved, furious.
With Helen’s outburst, James Brown didn’t feel as bothered anymore. Guessing Helen was just saying that to catch the thug, he flicked his wrist and heard a scream from the sea, then turned to Helen and said, "Okay, I’ve injured him. How you pull him out is up to you."
Helen had a mix of feelings for this guy James Brown. Strong enough to be unimaginable, but sometimes his show-offing made her grit her teeth in hatred. Now she wondered how funny it might be if someday she busted his gimmick. She got the other hostages to bring a rope to tie up the thug she subdued and then drove a speedboat to the place where the boss had popped up. The guy was now floating on the surface of the sea, and it was unknown if James Brown had killed him—he was completely still.
After hooking this guy up, Helen Wilson drove the speedboat to the dock. John Brown said there were four more thugs in the cabin, then jumped off the speedboat, and said, "Wait for me at home tonight, I’m coming to find you." Then he left.
Helen Wilson glared at John Brown’s back, then a proud smile appeared on her face. But there was no time to think about it, and she quickly used the speedboat’s radio to contact the police.
In less than twenty minutes, a large group of police officers arrived. There were a total of fourteen thugs, with six alive and eight dead, but none of the hostages were harmed, leaving everyone stunned.
Helen Wilson was called to the car by John Harris, who inquired in detail about the situation. Helen did not hide anything, as there were other hostages who witnessed it, and it was impossible to hide. Besides, she didn’t want to claim undeserved credit, so she explained everything, except she skipped the part about the Mysterious Figure coming to her place tonight.
John Harris, seeing the scene, already guessed that it must have been the Mysterious Figure helping Helen Wilson. He was incredibly curious about this Mysterious Figure, but since this person only helped and did not cause any trouble for the police, he didn’t intend to create problems for them. Besides, without the intervention of the Mysterious Figure, the police would have been in big trouble. The museum was robbed, hostages were killed, and if the thugs had escaped, his position as director would be in jeopardy.
"Little Lin, you’ve made a great contribution again this time, but I don’t know how to promote you. You’re already the deputy director of a sub-bureau; promoting you further would be too fast. I plan to recommend a commendation for you, get a first-class merit, and after accumulating a couple more years, then promote you further."
Helen Wilson blushed and said, "Director N, I already feel uneasy holding the deputy director position. If I’m promoted further, I won’t be able to handle it; I don’t have that kind of capability."
John Harris smiled slightly and said, "Capability is something that is cultivated. Not just in YODC City, but nationwide, there is no one who, like you, has repeatedly solved major cases just over a year into the job. No one would criticize your promotion."
Having solved this case, John Harris felt much more relaxed. Catching these people was a major achievement, whereas not catching them would have been dereliction of duty, meaning a potential promotion for him as well.
However, when taking statements from the hostages, they mentioned the Mysterious Figure’s demands to Helen Wilson, which made the police officers taking statements look at Helen with suggestive eyes. Helen then realized she hadn’t told the hostages to keep quiet. Now, everyone was talking about her relationship with the Mysterious Figure.
But John Harris didn’t want this matter spreading widely, so he immediately instructed the officers taking statements not to disclose this, as it involved Helen’s image as a police officer.
As for the hostages, even if they talked, it wouldn’t be a big deal, mostly just gossip.
Despite eight deaths, John Harris chose to overlook it, reporting that Helen Wilson killed the thugs at the time, which looked better on paper. Reporting a Mysterious Figure would lead to a troublesome investigation.
John Harris’s action was expected by John Brown, who was leisurely driving with Alice Brown on their way back.
Alice Brown’s curiosity burned intensely along the way, asking John Brown how he dealt with the thugs.
John Brown turned the car onto a small side road leading to a private villa, which was usually deserted and very quiet at this time.
Stopping the car, John Brown turned to face Alice Brown and said, "Alice, I have something to tell you, and you must keep it a secret for me."
"Okay, okay, I will definitely keep it a secret for you," Alice Brown nodded like a little bird pecking at rice.
Only then did John Brown slowly say, "I killed eight of the thugs, and the remaining two were captured with a policeman’s help. But at the time, I wasn’t in my true appearance, so no one could recognize me."
Alice Brown’s eyes lit up, and she said excitedly, "Then... who else knows about your identity?"
"No one knows, you’re the first," John Brown lit a cigarette and leisurely took a couple of puffs. Telling Alice directly was unavoidable. Since she came with him, she knew he went to the boat to help, and as a TV host, she could find out what happened on the boat. With a little thought, she could deduce that he was the person, so it was better for him to just tell her.
"I’m... the first... I am actually the first..." Alice Brown repeated the words, her gaze towards John Brown growing increasingly fervent.
John Brown felt a bit unnerved by Alice Brown’s gaze and said, "Alice, what are you doing? Don’t look at me like that."
Alice Brown suddenly lunged at John Brown, excitedly saying, "I don’t care anymore, Big Brother Brown, I want you today, even if you call me cheap, even if you say I’m shameless, I want you!" As she spoke, her lips moved to kiss John Brown’s face, and one hand grabbed directly at his vulnerable spot.
