Chapter 176: Ch 176: Coming Back- Part 2

"I would like to visit home first. I will come back for rest and recovery later."

I told Lynn, and his face suddenly looked understanding. I noticed that the other hunters had fallen quiet, their eyes pushing into me, but I held my ground. I was not going to let them pressure me in any way.

Lynn just grinned at me before he gave everyone else a lazy look. It was a warning for the others to back down and not approach me. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

The others did back down, and Lynn turned toward me with a smile on his face.

"Yeah, I understand. You just went through a dangerous dungeon. Of course, you want to head home. But do take care to come back. Being mentally fatigued is not good for your health."

Lynn’s hand covered my forehead as he spoke. His hand pushed back my hair, and his eyes looked directly into mine.

I could read hesitation and something... else in his gaze when he looked at me. Unfortunately, there was nothing I could give him in return, and the alpha knew it as well.

He pulled back hesitantly before he turned around to head back into his office. But just before he left, he turned around to look at Rhiner.

"Rhiner, please follow me. I would like a full report of what happened from you."

He told the other alpha, and Rhiner followed him with a sigh.

Before anyone else could come over and ask me anything, I quickly left to check up on Emma and Ben.

My destination was right across the street, but it felt like such a long journey. A part of me kept telling me to turn back and that this was not something I needed to do.

It kept telling me that all I was going to do was hurt myself if I visited Emma and Ben. And I did want to take that advice to heart and follow it.

Unfortunately, I was someone who was an expert at ignoring my own advice, so I kept moving forward even when I knew that it was not a good thing.

I ended up at the door of the café, and I hesitated to enter. My nervousness was keeping me outside.

In the end, I took a deep breath before I pushed the door open. I felt nervous to see Emma and Ben again.

But once my eyes fell on the air, all the nervousness left my body, and I felt calm once more. The pair was just sitting in front of the counter, and they turned to look at me as one.

For a whole minute, I was afraid that they wouldn’t recognize me. But my worries were unfounded as they quickly came toward me.

"Kyle, you are back? Thank God. We were so worried for you. How are you feeling?"

Emma asked as she came into my personal space. She looked me over a few times before she let me go.

On the other hand, Ben was much calmer, and he placed a hand on Emma’s shoulder to make her calm down.

"Emma, you need to give Kyle some room to breathe. I know you are excited, but still... calm down a little."

He told Emma, and Emma blushed before she pulled back. Her eyes looked at my face up and down before she calmed down.

"You are right. Sorry, Kyle, I got a little too ahead of myself. How are you feeling right now?"

She asked, and I gave her a reassuring smile.

"I am fine. I just missed this place a lot. What about you both? And what about Theo?"

I asked, and the pair in front of me gave me a confused look.

"Who’s Theo? I don’t think I recall. Did you give that cat we adopted another name? Sorry, Kyle, but I think Kuro... or well, Theo ran away while we were not looking. We have put out warning notices."

Emma told me, and I felt my heart skip a beat. Emma was acting like she had no idea who Theo was, and it made me scared for what that meant.

’What the hell-! How can they forget Theo? Did he... do something? But why?’

I could not understand what was going on or what Theo’s goal had been. If he had been using Emma and Ben all this time, then why tamper with their memory and make them forget? It did not make sense.

The only reason I could think of as to why he did it was because he did not want Emma and Ben to be sad over him. But surely the answer to my questions was not that simple, right?

"Kyle... no, Ace, I have something to say to you."

Emma told me as she turned to look at me. Her face was sober, and any sign of her earlier playfulness had faded away. I felt like I had to pay attention to her as well when she was like this.

The female took a sharp breath before she spoke.

"I want to thank you for helping Edwin out. I know that it was not a great deal for you, but it was one for us. I just... want you to know that I have never been more grateful for anything else in my life."

Emma told me, and I felt happy and sad at the same time.

I was happy for her having gotten back her family, but at the same time, I felt lonely to see her so happy. I also wanted to be happy, but Theo was no longer by my side.

Still, I kept smiling because I did not want to worry her.

"I see. That’s good. You should enjoy some time with him when he comes back. I should... get going now. Because of the dungeon, I have a lot of work to do suddenly. I will meet you when I have time again."

I told the female, and she looked sorry. But in the end, she knew she could not stop me, and I went back to the Luminous Guild with a heavy heart.
