The Twisted Obsession-Chapter 244: Fredrick
Chapter 244: Fredrick
Mrs. Margaret Harrison stood at the kitchen counter, idly stirring a cup of chamomile tea. The soft hum of the refrigerator and the distant ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway were the only sounds in the quiet, spacious penthouse. She glanced at the clock, noting the late hour. It was well past midnight, and the loneliness of the empty apartment seemed to press in on her.
She had come here tonight to their secret hideout because she couldn’t bear the loneliness any longer.
She hadn’t seen Fredrick in weeks. His business trip to Tokyo had stretched on longer than expected, leaving her with too much time to think and worry.
Fredrick, nearly fifteen years her junior, had a vibrant energy that drew her in. His dark hair, intense green eyes, and easy smile had captivated her from their first meeting at a charity gala. He was ambitious, intelligent, and utterly devoted to her, despite the challenges their relationship faced.
As Margaret sipped her tea, she heard the faint sound of a car engine in the driveway. Her heart leaped, and she set the cup down with a trembling hand. Could it be? She hurried to the window and peered out, her breath catching as she saw Fredrick stepping out of a sleek black sports car.
Without thinking, she rushed to the front door, her pulse quickening with each step. She flung it open just as Fredrick was reaching for the doorbell. He looked up, surprise and joy lighting up his face.
"Margaret," he breathed, his voice warm and rich.
"Fredrick," she whispered, her voice catching in her throat.
They stood there for a moment, just looking at each other. Then, as if pulled by an invisible force, Margaret stepped forward and threw her arms around him. He held her tightly, burying his face in her hair.
"I missed you so much," he murmured.
"I missed you too," she replied, her voice muffled against his shoulder.
They stood there for what felt like an eternity, neither wanting to let go. Finally, Fredrick pulled back slightly, his hands resting on her shoulders. He looked at her, his eyes searching her face.
"Are you okay?" he asked softly.
Margaret nodded, tears brimming in her eyes. "I am now."
He smiled and leaned in to kiss her gently. His lips were warm and familiar, and she felt a surge of happiness wash over her. When they finally broke apart, he took her hand and led her inside.
The penthouse felt different with Fredrick in it. The emptiness that had weighed on her for weeks seemed to dissolve in his presence. They made their way to the living room, where the dim light of a table lamp cast a soft glow over the room. Fredrick sat down on the couch, pulling Margaret down beside him.
"Tell me everything," she said, her eyes bright with curiosity. "How was Tokyo?"
He laughed, a sound that made her heart flutter. "It was amazing. Busy, chaotic, but incredible. I brought you something."
He reached into his bag and pulled out a small, intricately wrapped box. Margaret took it, her fingers brushing against his. She carefully unwrapped it, revealing a delicate necklace with a single pearl pendant.
"Oh, Fredrick, it’s beautiful," she said, her voice full of emotion.
"I’m glad you like it," he said, his eyes softening. "I saw it and thought of you."
She leaned in and kissed him again, longer this time. When they finally pulled away, Fredrick rested his forehead against hers.
"How have you been?" he asked, his voice low.
Margaret sighed, the weight of the past few weeks pressing down on her. "It’s been hard. I’ve missed you so much. And things with James are... complicated."
Fredrick frowned, concern etched on his face. "Has he been giving you a hard time?"
"Not exactly," she said, shaking her head. "He’s just... absent. Even when he’s here, he’s not really here. You know?"
Fredrick nodded, his jaw tightening. "You deserve better than that, Margaret."
"I know," she said softly. "And that’s why I’m so grateful for you. You’ve brought so much joy into my life."
He smiled, a warm, genuine smile that made her heart swell. "I feel the same way about you."
They sat there for a while, talking and laughing, the hours slipping away as the night deepened. Margaret felt a sense of peace she hadn’t known in a long time. Being with Fredrick was like a balm for her soul, and she cherished every moment they had together.
As the first light of dawn began to filter through the curtains, Fredrick pulled Margaret close, resting his chin on top of her head. She sighed contentedly, feeling safe and loved in his arms.
"Promise me something," she said softly.
"Anything," he replied.
"Promise me you’ll never leave."
He pulled back slightly to look at her, his eyes full of determination. "I promise, Margaret. I’m here for you. Always."
She smiled, a genuine, heartfelt smile that reached her eyes. "I love you, Fredrick."
"I love you too, Margaret," he said, his voice full of sincerity.
They stayed like that for a while longer, holding each other as the world outside began to wake up. In that moment, everything felt right, and Margaret allowed herself to believe that maybe, just maybe, they could find a way to make this work.
Margaret took a deep breath, pulling back slightly to look at Fredrick. The warmth of their embrace was comforting, but she knew she needed to tell him the truth. She reached up and gently cupped his face, her fingers tracing the lines of worry that were starting to form.
"Fredrick, there’s something I need to tell you," she said, her voice trembling slightly.
He immediately grew serious, his eyes searching hers. "What is it, Margaret?"
She looked away for a moment, gathering her thoughts. When she looked back at him, her eyes were filled with a mixture of fear and determination.
"James knows about us," she said quietly. "He found out about the affair."
Fredrick’s eyes widened in shock, his grip on her tightening. "What? How? When?"
"He confronted me a few weeks ago," she explained, her voice steadying as she spoke. "He found some of our messages and photos. He was furious."
Fredrick’s jaw tightened, anger flashing in his eyes. "Did he hurt you?"
