Chapter 256: Evidence

Lily arrived at Alex’s house later in the evening, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts and plans. She had spent the day steeling herself for what she needed to do. She knew this could be dangerous, but it was a necessary step to secure her future with Cage and to bring Alex’s shady activities to light.

As she approached the front door, she took a deep breath and forced a bright smile onto her face. Alex opened the door, his usual charming smile in place. "Lily, I’m so glad you could come," he said, pulling her into a hug.

Lily hugged him back, suppressing the shiver of revulsion that ran down her spine. "Of course, Alex. I missed you."

They made their way inside, and Alex led her to the living room where he had already set up a cozy scene: a fire crackling in the fireplace, soft music playing in the background, and a bottle of wine chilling on the table.

"Let’s have a drink," Alex suggested, pouring two glasses of wine and handing one to Lily. She took it, careful to appear enthusiastic.

"To us," Alex said, raising his glass. Lily clinked her glass against his and took a sip, the bitterness of her plan mixing with the sweetness of the wine.

They spent the next hour chatting and laughing, Alex completely unaware of the turmoil brewing beneath Lily’s composed exterior. She played the part of the loving fiancée, laughing at his jokes and leaning into his touches. They even played a playful game of hide and seek around the house, their laughter echoing through the halls.

When they finally settled back in the living room, Alex poured them another round of drinks. Lily knew this was her chance. She excused herself to the bathroom, taking the opportunity to slip a crushed sleeping pill into his drink from a small vial she had hidden in her purse.

Returning to the living room, she handed Alex his glass, her heart pounding in her chest. "Here you go," she said, her voice steady despite the nerves jangling inside her.

Alex took the glass with a smile. "Thanks, Lily. You’re the best."

They continued to talk, and as Alex drank more, Lily could see the effects of the pill beginning to take hold. His eyelids grew heavy, and his speech started to slur.

"Feeling a bit tired," Alex mumbled, his head nodding slightly.

Lily placed a gentle hand on his arm. "Maybe you should lie down, Alex. You’ve had a long day."

Alex nodded, barely able to keep his eyes open. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea."

She helped him to the bedroom, guiding him as he stumbled along. By the time they reached the bed, Alex was barely conscious. He collapsed onto the mattress, mumbling incoherently as he drifted off to sleep.

Lily waited a few minutes to make sure he was fully asleep, then set to work. She needed to find something—anything—that could link Alex to his illegal activities. She started with his desk, carefully opening drawers and sifting through papers.

Her hands shook slightly as she rifled through documents, receipts, and ledgers. Most of it seemed mundane, but she kept digging, knowing there had to be something hidden in here. She moved to his closet, checking the pockets of his jackets and the boxes on the shelves.

Nothing. Frustration gnawed at her, but she couldn’t give up. She moved back to the desk, this time checking for hidden compartments. Her fingers brushed against a small latch on the underside of a drawer, and her heart leapt. She pressed it, and a false bottom slid open, revealing a stack of papers.

Lily pulled them out, her eyes scanning the documents quickly. Her breath caught as she realized what she was holding—bank statements and transfer records linking Alex to offshore accounts. This was the proof she needed. She quickly took photos of the documents with her phone, ensuring she had everything she needed.

Just as she finished, she heard a noise from the bed. Her heart pounded in her chest as she turned to see Alex stirring. She quickly slid the documents back into their hidden compartment and closed the drawer, her movements swift and silent.

Lily moved to the bed, placing a gentle hand on Alex’s shoulder. "Alex? Are you okay?" freёweɓnovel_com

He mumbled something incoherent and turned over, falling back into a deep sleep. Relief washed over her as she realized he was still heavily under the influence of the sleeping pill.

With her heart still racing, Lily quietly exited the room, her mind already racing with the next steps. She had the evidence she needed, and now it was time to get out of there and back to Cage. They would know what to do with this information.

As she left the house, Lily felt a mixture of triumph and fear. She had taken a huge risk, but it had paid off. Now, with the evidence in hand, she could help bring Alex down and secure her future with Cage.

Lily’s drive back to her apartment was a blur. Her mind replayed the night’s events over and over, each detail etched into her memory. When she finally reached her home, she sat in her car for a moment, taking deep breaths to steady herself.

Inside, she immediately contacted Cage. "I have it," she said, her voice trembling with a mix of excitement and nerves. "I found the proof."

Cage’s response was immediate and filled with pride. "That’s amazing, Lily. You did it. Come over, and we’ll go through it together."

Lily quickly gathered her things and made her way to Cage’s apartment. The danger wasn’t over yet, but she felt a renewed sense of hope and determination. With the evidence they had, they could finally bring Alex’s dark deeds to light and free themselves from his shadow.

As she walked into Cage’s apartment, he pulled her into a tight embrace. "I’m so proud of you," he whispered. "You were so brave."

As soon as they pulled apart from the embrace, Cage looked into Lily’s eyes, filled with pride and admiration. His hand gently brushed her cheek, and before he could say anything, Lily gripped the front of his shirt, stretching onto her tiptoes to pull him down toward her.

Cage smirked, his eyes darkening with desire. He lowered his head, meeting her soft lips gently with his own. The kiss started tenderly, a slow exploration of emotions that had been building between them. But as their lips moved together, the kiss deepened, becoming more urgent and intense.

Lily’s fingers tightened in Cage’s shirt, pulling him closer as she flicked her tongue against the seam of his mouth. He groaned softly, the sound vibrating through both of them, and parted his lips, allowing her entrance. Their tongues met, tangling and tasting, and the world seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of them wrapped in each other.

Cage’s hands moved to Lily’s waist, pulling her against him as the kiss grew more fervent. Her arms slid up around his neck, and she stood on her tiptoes, pressing herself as close to him as she could.

Lily responded with equal passion, her body pressing into his, her hands roaming up and down his back, feeling the hard muscles beneath his shirt. The kiss was wild and unrestrained, a pure expression of everything they felt for each other.

When they finally broke apart, both were breathless, their foreheads resting against each other’s. Cage’s eyes were dark with desire, but also with a deep, abiding love. "Lily," he whispered, his voice rough with emotion. "I love you so much."

Lily’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears of happiness. "I love you too, Cage. More than anything."

Cage took her hand, leading her to the couch where they sat down to plan their next steps. The weight of their accomplishment hung in the air, giving them a renewed sense of purpose and urgency.

"We need to move quickly," Cage said, his tone serious. "I need to put other measures in place. When I’m done, I’ll release this to the media and authorities.."

Lily agreed. "And we should also inform the patriarch of the Sinclair family. He needs to know what Alex has been doing behind his back."

Cage nodded. "Absolutely. With the proof we have, Alex won’t be able to deny his involvement."

Lily leaned back against the couch, exhaustion starting to creep in. Cage looked at her, concern flickering in his eyes. "You should get some rest, Lily. It’s been a long day."

Lily smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her at his concern. "I will, but I’m too wired to sleep right now. We’re so close, Cage. I can hardly believe it."

Cage took her hand, squeezing it gently. "I know. But you need to take care of yourself too. We’ve got a big day ahead of us."

Lily nodded, knowing he was right. "Okay. I’ll try to get some rest."

Cage led her to the guest bedroom, his hand never leaving hers. "Stay here tonight. It’s safer, and I’ll be right here if you need anything."

Lily felt a rush of gratitude and affection for him. "Thank you, Cage. For everything."

He kissed her forehead softly. "We’re in this together, remember?"

She smiled, feeling the strength of their bond. "I won’t forget."
