Chapter 317: Flowers and Threat

Abby sat upright in the hospital bed, her legs tucked beneath the thin white sheet, a book resting on her lap. She had been recovering faster than expected, her strength slowly returning with each passing day. Her body, though still sore, was healing, but her mind remained in turmoil. The whispers in her head never stopped, questions about Remo’s loyalty, the truth behind Nicole’s intentions, and the looming sense that her carefully constructed life was beginning to unravel.

The hospital room was quiet, and for a moment, Abby found solace in the silence. She flipped a page in her book, trying to distract herself from the spiraling thoughts that often consumed her, but they lurked in the corners of her mind, ever-present.

A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. She looked up to see one of the nurses standing there, a warm smile on her face and a bouquet of vibrant red roses cradled in her arms.

"Mrs. Quinn, someone brought these for you," the nurse said, stepping into the room with the flowers. "Thought they might brighten your day."

Abby’s heart fluttered, a smile pulling at her lips as she immediately thought of Remo. Perhaps he had arranged this as a sweet gesture, a surprise to make her feel loved and secure. Her doubts from earlier began to soften, and for a brief moment, everything felt like it was falling back into place. Maybe things weren’t as dire as she feared.

The nurse placed the flowers on the bedside table and handed Abby a small card tucked within the arrangement. "Here’s the card that came with it. I’ll give you some privacy while you read it."

Abby nodded, distracted by the thought of what sweet words Remo might have written. She waited until the nurse quietly left the room, then eagerly reached for the card. Her fingers trembled slightly as she opened the envelope, her mind already crafting the romantic message she imagined it would contain.

But as her eyes scanned the neat handwriting on the card, her smile faded. The color drained from her face, her breath catching in her throat as she read the words again, trying to make sense of them.

"I told you I’d never forget what you did. Neither will Remo when he finds out the truth. Tick tock, Abby. Your time is running out."

Her hands shook as she dropped the card, the room suddenly feeling much colder. A surge of panic swelled inside her, her heart pounding in her chest as her mind raced with paranoia. Who had sent this? Was it Nicole? Someone else? How did they know... how did they know her secret? How could they possibly know?

The whispering doubts in her mind, the ones she had been trying so hard to quiet, grew louder. She had always feared someone might find out what really happened, but she had buried that fear, convinced herself that no one would ever uncover the truth. But now, someone knew. And they were playing with her, toying with her fears, threatening to rip apart everything she had fought so hard to protect.

The door creaked open again, and Abby flinched, still staring at the card on the floor as the nurse returned. "Mrs. Quinn, are you alright?" the nurse asked, her voice gentle but tinged with concern. "You don’t look well."

Abby’s head snapped up, her eyes wide and panicked. "Who sent those flowers?" she asked, her voice trembling. "Who brought them?"

The nurse looked taken aback by Abby’s sudden intensity but kept her tone calm. "I’m not sure. They were delivered anonymously. No one left a name."

Abby’s breathing quickened, the room beginning to spin as the message on the card burned in her mind. Tick tock. Time was running out. Was Remo involved? Did he know? Was this some cruel game Nicole was playing to drive her mad?

The nurse approached slowly, her face kind but professional. "You seem stressed, Mrs. Quinn. Let me give you something to help you relax."

Abby barely registered the words as she stared at the roses, her mind consumed with the terrifying thought that someone was watching her, waiting for her to slip up. The nurse took advantage of Abby’s distraction, reaching into her pocket and pulling out a small syringe.

"You’ll feel better soon," the nurse murmured softly, her hand steady as she approached Abby’s bedside. Abby, still lost in her spiraling thoughts, didn’t notice the movement until the nurse’s hand gently touched her arm.

"W-what?" Abby stammered, her voice distant as she finally registered what was happening. "What are you doing?"

The nurse gave her a reassuring smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes. "Just a little something to calm your nerves."

Before Abby could react, the nurse swiftly injected the contents of the syringe into her arm. The sharp sting barely registered through the fog of panic that already clouded her mind. Abby’s body tensed as the cold liquid entered her bloodstream, and for a moment, she tried to pull away, but her limbs were sluggish, her head growing heavy.

"Wait... no..." Abby whispered, her voice weak, her vision blurring. She reached out, grasping at the sheets, but her strength was quickly slipping away.

The nurse stepped back, watching as Abby’s eyes fluttered, her body slumping back against the pillows. "Shh," the nurse said softly, brushing a strand of hair away from Abby’s face. "Everything’s going to be fine."

Abby’s mind screamed for her to fight, to resist, but her body was no longer listening. The panic that had consumed her moments ago was slowly being replaced by a dull, numbing haze. Her heart raced, but her limbs refused to move. The card’s message echoed in her mind, twisting with fear and confusion as the darkness crept in. freёwebnoѵel.com

Tick tock. Your time is running out.

As her consciousness faded, the last thing Abby saw was the nurse’s cold, professional smile. Then everything went black.

The roses sat on the table beside her, their vibrant red petals a stark contrast to the growing shadows in the room. And as the door to the hospital room quietly closed, the walls seemed to close in, suffocating, silent.
