The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse-Chapter 607 - 600: The Blooming Roses
Chapter 607: Chapter 600: The Blooming Roses
3:00 p.m.
The temperature soared to over forty degrees, with ground temperature exceeding sixty degrees. The air was scorching hot, and although there was a canopy to avoid the direct sunlight, everyone still sweated profusely.
Ram glanced at his watch before he said indifferently, "The time to commence the attack has arrived, turn on the radio."
A long antenna was erected, and Grewatov turned on the radio.
Some were nervous, anxious, restless, others were resolute.
There was no sound coming from the radio.
3:00 p.m. was the scheduled time for the attack to begin, but no one knew if it could be launched on time, or if it could be initiated from their prearranged positions.
Perhaps the battle had already begun, or maybe they had not yet encountered the enemy, so the combat had not started, but 3:00 p.m. was the designated start time for the attack.
At 3:02 p.m., the first message suddenly came through the radio.
"Uranus Troops have begun their attack, over!"
It was a brief statement, devoid of information about the enemy, the point of attack, or the enemy’s reaction—just a notification.
The battle had started, Uranus Troops had begun their assault.
The next communication would be from the Uranus Troops after the battle had ended.
The radio was receiving only, not sending, because Ram was not there to command; this place was not the command center.
At 3:04 p.m., the radio transmitted again.
"Venus Assault Team, unable to reach the prearranged position, engaging with the enemy, over."
3:05 p.m.
"Russian Front Army has launched an attack, our forces have successfully penetrated prearranged positions, over."
3:07 p.m.
"Jupiter Assault Team, engaging with the enemy, over."
3:47 p.m.
"Uranus Assault Team, our progress is smooth, haven’t found the enemy’s main forces, sporadic engagement with the enemy, over."
Ram checked his watch. The special forces and reconnaissance units of Uranus were engaged in combat much later than planned, indicating they did not encounter enemy resistance early on as anticipated, meaning their progress was smoother and they had penetrated deeper than scheduled.
4:00 p.m.
The radio transmitted again.
"Venus Assault Team, this is David Burns. We’ve encountered the enemy’s main force. Now only four of us remain, two lightly wounded. We lack the strength to advance further. Position remains the original one. All friendly troops take note, the flower is about to bloom, please avoid."
The Venus Troops were in a desperate situation, they had encountered a strong enemy and were unable to continue fighting.
Gao Yuan couldn’t define the feeling in his heart. The entire special operations force of the Venus Troops, over three hundred strong, was now down to four.
"What does he mean by the flower blooming?"
Gao Yuan didn’t understand what it meant and asked, but Ram did not answer him.
Ram stretched his hand toward his chin, unclipped the buckle, and with his right hand, removed his helmet and then placed it in his left, holding it neatly.
Just then, a loud and calm voice came through the radio: "Humanity will not perish, long live Scotland! The rose blooms, and once bloomed, it never fades! Ten seconds countdown begins, 10, 9, 8..."
Everyone listened in silence while Grewatov silently turned off the radio and then also stood up, standing at attention in the direction of Djibouti.
Gao Yuan asked anxiously, "What does it mean? What does he mean?"
Ram suddenly stood at attention, and with a loud voice, he said, "Attention! Remove hats, salute!"
Ram stood solemnly, facing Djibouti, and gave a military salute, but his hand did not come down afterward.
Gao Yuan turned in the direction of Djibouti, he took off his helmet, held the helmet in his left hand, and just as he was raising his right hand, he saw a sudden burst of light from the direction of Djibouti, a light so intense that not even the sun’s rays could overshadow it.
The light flashed and was gone, and immediately afterward, Gao Yuan felt a faint tremor beneath his feet.
Gao Yuan’s mind went blank at first, then he quickly understood what had happened.
A mushroom cloud was slowly rising, and even from several dozen kilometers away, it was clearly visible.
Nuclear explosion.
Ground-based nuclear explosion.
A ground-based nuclear explosion, where buildings blocked most of the force, shielded the bright light, and could be directly looked at by the naked eye.
Only now tears began to flow, uncertain if it was because of the glare.
Gao Yuan personally witnessed humanity’s third use of a nuclear explosion in actual combat, delivered in the most primitive way.
The mushroom cloud churned, climbing higher and higher, thrusting into the sky.
"Salute complete!"
Ram proclaimed the end of the salute with a resounding voice, he lowered his right hand, placed his helmet back on his head, adjusted it, and fastened it properly.
Turning around, Ram let out a soft sigh and said, "The rose has bloomed earlier than expected."
Grewatov looked at his watch, waited for a while, then reached out and turned the radio back on.
The voice coming out of the radio was rather noisy, as the electromagnetic pulse from the nuclear explosion was still present, but it was very weak and would not cause damage to electronic equipment.
Gao Yuan started to calm down, he knew that the Uranus Troops had brought two nuclear bombs, but he did not know that even a single assault team would still carry a nuclear bomb.
Gao Yuan wanted to ask for clarification, but he soon gave up the idea.
At this point, what was there to say, and what was there to ask?
Ram looked at the map, his voice was still calm as he said, "The Venus Troops failed to break into the urban area, but their sacrifice will surely cause a great shock to the enemy, and will definitely create better attacking conditions for the other troops."
Grewatov circled an area on the map and said in a serious tone, "If the enemy knew that cornering their opponents would trigger a nuclear explosion, then they would surely be affected."
Yang Yi sighed softly and said, "You really used it..."
Ram remained silent, Yang Yi continued, "The nuclear explosion might prompt the Sanitation Worker to relocate the Ark of the Covenant earlier, keep an eye on that."
Grewatov, however, asked in a deep voice, "What yield?"
"Twenty kiloton-class, tactical nuclear bomb, part of the aviation nuclear series, we found the smallest yield available."
Grewatov drew a slightly larger circle on the map, then he said in a serious tone, "A ground-based nuclear explosion on the edge of a densely built-up area, absolute lethality radius one kilometer, fifty percent lethality radius two kilometers, effective lethality three kilometers, if the Jupiter Assault Team had taken protective measures beforehand, their operational capability would not be affected."
A nuclear bomb can destroy the world, but this is not always the case; it depends on the detonation height of the bomb.
The destruction caused by a nuclear bomb varies greatly depending on the explosion’s altitude and location—whether it’s in the exoatmosphere, high altitude, mid-altitude, low altitude, on the ground, underground, on the water surface, underwater, or in the deep sea. The same yield nuclear bomb, if targeting a city, would undoubtedly cause the least collateral damage if detonated underground, followed by a ground explosion.
Therefore, a single strategic nuclear warhead can destroy a city, such as Big Ivan with its yield reduced by half still having a yield of fifty megatons, but a twenty kiloton-class tactical nuclear bomb cannot destroy a city.
However, this tactical nuclear bomb indeed had a tremendous tactical effect; the rose bloomed, and the path ahead opened up.
