The Unveiling of Secret Queen-Chapter 1695: Mom, We’re Just Friends!
Jaycent Kingsley picked up the coat from the back of the chair, saying very gentlemanly, "I’ll escort you home."
Nathalie Quinlan’s phone was constantly vibrating at a low frequency. She initially wanted to deal with it later, but the vibrating phone was so annoying that it stirred a thick layer of irritation under her eyelids. With one hand, she picked up her phone and began to type.
Jaycent saw how swiftly she was typing a text message.
Seeing Nathalie busy replying to messages, he considerately didn’t rush her. He draped the coat over his arm and patiently stood there waiting for her to finish replying.
After five minutes, the girl finally finished replying to the messages, casually grabbing the duckbill cap next to her, dragging the chair back, and telling him, "I’m going to pay the bill."
Once she was done, Jaycent called out to her, "SN, the security here in Inderia isn’t as good as in Beijing. It’s not safe for you to go back alone, I’ll take you home."
"It’s not necessary." Nathalie fastened her duckbill cap, just refusing.
However, Jaycent was particularly insistent, putting away his smile and speaking sternly, "I’m serious, Inderia isn’t safe. I won’t feel at ease if you go back alone. I’ll escort you."
Nathalie spun the duckbill cap around her wrist, not yet having put it on. Upon hearing him say this, she paused briefly and then said, "Alright," raising her eyelids and relenting a bit.
She went to pay the bill.
Jaycent watched her figure walk away.
Just at that moment, his phone on the table rang.
Jaycent walked over to pick up the phone, glanced down, reined in his smile, and answered, "Hello, Mom."
He looked up in Nathalie’s direction, only seeing the tall and bold silhouette of the girl, and then he withdrew his gaze, saying, "I’m having dinner outside with a friend."
"Her?" Jaycent rubbed his temples and said briefly, "No, you don’t know her, she’s an online friend I’ve known for years. We’ve never met in person before, but we’re really close, no different from real-life friends."
Whatever the person on the other end of the phone said, he quickly denied it: "No, we don’t have that kind of relationship you’re thinking of. She went to the bar to pay, not beside me, so about the photo, let’s skip that."
As to how to describe his relationship with Nathalie, it could barely be counted as having met twice in real life, with previous interactions mainly online.
Yet Jaycent had this unspeakable feeling, always naturally liking Nathalie.
He did, however, distinguish it very clearly.
He knew well that his affection for Nathalie wasn’t romantic but rather a brotherly feeling.
Every time he saw Nathalie, he wanted to protect her.
But from a certain perspective, Jaycent still couldn’t quite figure out why he had this feeling.
Because, as far as he knew, SN was someone unfathomable.
SN herself didn’t seem like the kind of soft and cuddly little sister who’d act coquettishly as he imagined.
In any case, none of the little sisters from the Kingsleys Family would fight over paying the bill when dining with him.
"...Hmm? A banquet? I’m not sure if she’s available."
"She came with a teacher, got some personal matters to handle here, and should be leaving in a few days."
While speaking, Jaycent saw the girl walking back after paying, and he lowered his voice, speaking helplessly to the person on the phone: "Mom, I can’t talk now. I’ll hang up first."
Just then, Nathalie walked over and happened to see him put down the phone.
Jaycent picked up the coat he had just put down again and said elegantly to the girl, "Let’s go, we’re heading back."
"Mm." Nathalie didn’t mind much and followed his steps.
