The Vampire King's Pet-Chapter 308: Greed
But Zyren didn’t even look up at him to meet King Jared’s gaze. Instead, he coughed as more blood seemed to flow out of his lips.
Lord Drehk stood beside him with his hand clasped strongly on the weapon in his hand. No trace of anxiety showed on his face, almost like he had accepted his fate even if it pained him to do so.
But King Jared clearly had no intention of dealing with Drehk, his eyes focused on Zyren as he gave the order, pointing at him.
"Whosoever can bring me his head will get a personal gift from me!" King Jared ordered, even as the werewolves instantly roared, dashing forward with bloodthirsty expressions on their faces.
Drehk, huge and tall, instantly raised his hands to attack with all his might. His bloodline power was strength, which meant that although his enemies were many, they couldn’t take him down without a fight.
Meanwhile, King Jared stepped closer to Zyren with a brutish smile on his handsome face, his furry ears wiggling in excitement as his gold eyes gleamed.
A look of victory was on his face even as he made no move to rip out Zyren’s head, aware that Zyren might still have a last-ditch effort to get rid of him—something he had carefully hidden.
"Do you know how nice it is to watch you kneel in front of me?" Jared asked, and Zyren opened his mouth to answer, but he couldn’t.
The pain was much worse, so much so that he was starting to feel dizzy. He did his best to rise to his feet, unwilling to go down on his knees, but he had barely tried when his legs wobbled and he had no choice but to stay kneeling.
A look of anger crossed his face as he raised his head and glared at King Jared, unable to do anything else as he watched King Jared collect a silver blade from one of the council members that surrounded him.
Zyren was aware that he had been too lax, which was why he had ended up in such a terrible situation.
Meanwhile, Clara, who had been sticking closely to Jared, took two steps back as she watched her husband focus all his attention on Zyren.
She wanted Zyren to die since he was a big obstacle, but beyond that there was someone else she wanted to kill herself.
Her gaze slid around until it landed on Aira, who stood a distance away, her sister standing beside her but already moving away—especially when it became clear that King Jared had finally decided to finish Zyren.
Something Liora couldn’t stand by and allow.
Clara was patient, moving steadily to the side as she waited for Liora to leave, intending to make Aira’s death as swift as she could, gesturing to the two guards who stood behind her to prepare to kill her.
King Jared slashed out with a menacing look on his face, attacking Zyren with his blade hard enough to leave a deep wound on his chest right below his neck.
Blood gushed out, and it was clear that King Jared hadn’t held his strength back as he slashed again with no intention of actually killing him immediately.
"Just for you... I’ll transform and swallow you whole," King Jared said, something he was sure he would enjoy with relish considering who King Zyren was.
The tale would be told for years to come, and he would take the glory as he slashed the sword again, harder this time, and downward, intending to take off Zyren’s arm.
But he had just swung the blade when he suddenly heard a loud scream from behind him, one too familiar to be mistaken for someone else.
Glancing back, he saw Aira being restrained and attacked by two werewolf men with weapons, even as she struggled to avoid being killed.
His moment of distraction was enough for his slash toward Zyren to completely miss, even as the strike that was supposed to take off his arm instead slashed gruesomely into it when Zyren failed to move to avoid it.
Blood gushed even more onto the ground in a way that made it clear that even if the dark slime in his body, injuring him internally, didn’t kill him, blood loss would.
King Jared didn’t hesitate, dashing back as quickly as he could to help her.
Aira was not only an important part of getting rid of the Zygon beasts, but unknown to anyone else, she was also his mate.
A secret he intended to keep until he could have her all to himself, without anyone going against him.
Marrying a human Luna might cause the werewolves to revolt against him—unless he had their complete adoration for saving their lives against the Zygons.
Dashing forward to help, he was surprised to see Clara beat him to it, beating back one of the werewolf guards whom she instantly slew, while the other suddenly had a red blade slash its throat, killing it.
Everyone was stunned to see who had killed the guard, revealing that Liora, Aira’s sister, also had an ability, to the shock of everyone there.
It was already a shock that Aira had one, which they ascribed to Zyren helping her with a vampire ritual, but Liora—another human—having an ability changed things.
"I’m glad you’re fine," King Jared told Aira, but deep within him he couldn’t help but burn with jealousy and anger after seeing Liora kill the guard from a distance.
Clearly her ability was strong, and he wanted it. Any ability would do, and he wasn’t the only one now that Liora’s ability had been revealed.
Aran Duskbane was the most shocked, aware that he was from the very same lineage the girls came from—the very same family.
I can also get powers, was the immediate conclusion he came to as he began to think of the possibilities.
The more he thought about it, the more his greed increased, aware that with a strong ability he would not have to cower. He would lead all the hunter houses, and if luck was on his side, his ability could be strong enough for him to become a human king with his own territory.
