Chapter 131: Chaos [2]

"Doesn’t matter. They don’t look that strong. I will take care of these pests."

Saying his part, just as Arnold was about to jump down, Remzi grabbed his arm, stopping the former from doing anything foolish.

Arnold, seeing that, had a huge frown across his face.

"Remzi, people are dying down there. I have to fucking help—"

"Are they your kids?"

"Huh?"

"Are they?"

"No?"

Arnold felt like Remzi had lost it after having his eardrums burst from the explosion.

"So why do you need to jump down?"

As Remzi questioned him, Arnold’s face twisted further.

"I have invested a fucking—"

"Silence."

Remzi’s words made Arnold pause, as anger began to bubble in his mind.

"Who the fuck are you to tell me to shut down, huh?!"

"It’s a trap."

"Trap?"

"If these guys could plan a raid so well, then surely they would know all the people who are going to join the auction."

Remzi sat on the sofa, making himself comfortable despite the bloodshed that was being done below.

Arnold wanted to make Remzi understand the seriousness of the situation, but the latter invited Arnold to sit down by patting the seat beside him.

Surprisingly, Arnold listened to Remzi, which from an outsider’s perspective looked like a parent teaching their child.

"The combat power that they are currently using is just a bait to fish you out. They might have laid more traps in the area below, and once you enter that spot, you will be killed for sure."

Remzi crossed his legs, taking a sip of the wine from the glass nearby.

"But isn’t that your assumption? And don’t you think it’s far-fetched to think that some traps can kill someone like me? For your knowledge, I am—"

"A Platinum 5 Ranker. I know that."

"Then?!"

"I didn’t say that the traps will be the ones to kill you, but they will surely weaken you enough to shift the tide of the battle."

"Remzi, look below!"

Pointing toward the auction hall, Arnold stood up from his seat, moving toward the far end of the room.

"The strongest combatant that can fight me is a mere Platinum 1. Do you think there is any chance that someone like that can kill me, even if I am thoroughly injured? I bet even his blade wouldn’t be able to—"

"A mere Platinum 1 Ranker, you say? Do you seriously believe that people who have a Platinum Ranker in their ranks would not think of possible countermeasures before raiding the house? What makes you think they don’t have any individual at Platinum 5? Heck, they might even have a Diamond Ranker—maybe their leader or something."

Arnold just stared at Remzi, not knowing what to say.

"Do you think that Diamond Rankers grow on trees, that any ragtag group can have them?"

"And do you think that any ragtag group would arrange such a well-planned operation in a place that’s under the protection of the empire itself?"

"..."

Now that he thought about it, Arnold also began to consider the possibility that the enemy might have fighters on par with him or even above his level.

Though such a conclusion should have been easy to reach—Arnold was, at the end of the day, what one could call a muscle head.

His only plus point was his insane combat prowess, which was among the best in the entire empire.

There was a reason that despite not being a Diamond Ranker, Arnold was given command over several of the House Levaith’s operations.

That just went on to show the trust that Duke Levaith had in his brother.

"But even if I don’t interfere in the battle, what makes you think that they won’t attack us in this room?"

Looking around the room, Arnold scanned for any possible enemy attacks.

"The same reason why you thought you could kill all of them."

"Huh?"

"You are a Platinum 5 Ranker. Even though they might have prepared contingencies for a face-off against you, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they will want to fight a monster like you. Strategies are one thing, and their successful execution is a different matter altogether."

The room was enveloped by a brief silence before— 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"Damn! You sure are a smart bastard."

Moving toward Remzi, Arnold patted his shoulders while laughing at the same time.

"This doesn’t require one to be smart. It was a basic conclusion that anyone could have arrived at after some analysis."

"Nah! You are a smart man!"

Remzi wanted to say that it was Arnold who was dumb for not being able to think of something so simple, but he held back his words.

No use provoking a dumb idiot.

"So, now?"

"Hm?"

Remzi looked at Arnold, who was expecting something from him.

"I mean, what are you going to do now? How do we stop them? Any plans to catch them later?"

"There’s none."

"What the fuck! Remzi, these are criminals, and we can’t just let them off the hook! Do you—"

"It’s not that I don’t want to, but we simply can’t."

"What the hell does that mean?!"

Arnold had again returned to his previously enraged self. Being patient was the last thing he could have ever done.

"I don’t think they would have left any evidence for us to track it back to their hideout or base, whatever it is. Also, we simply can’t fight them, as it would have a high chance of you dying a dog’s death."

Remzi ended his statement in the usual carefree voice, but it was that voice which irked the Levaith.

"Are you underestimating me?"

"No."

"Then?!"

"..."

Remzi didn’t reply, as his entire focus had now shifted to the invaders who were slaughtering the staff, guards, as well as the guests with no signs of stopping.

He found it weird for them to do everything just to raid a mere auction house.

If they were after money, they could have looted other places, which had far greater rewards than attacking a place like this.

And even now, none of the invaders showed any signs of shifting their focus to the vault where the main commodities should have been stored.

Or maybe...
