Chapter 132: Chaos [3]

They had already cleared that place, but then—

Why were they trying to create such chaos?

Was it to gain attention?

Some cult?

None of that felt logical. If they wanted the world’s attention, they should have attacked some public party consisting of all the elites of the empires, or at least they should have raided a far wealthier guild.

This guild, though fairly decent in its size, was nothing compared to the real titans in the market.

So why?

Remzi couldn’t arrive at a single definite reason for the possible attack. He had already mapped out all the possibilities, but all of them were based on some assumption or the other.

Was it due to some feud of the guild?

Some sort of revenge?

But the risks were too high, and the profits that could be derived from such a reckless attempt didn’t compare to the losses the mastermind could have suffered if the plan had failed.

Which it didn’t.

Remzi too had to commend the efforts put behind the execution of such a successful strike.

If by some chance he did discover the strategist behind this... Remzi thought about recruiting him.

Though the plan that they were currently following wasn’t without loopholes, at least according to what Remzi had analysed from their actions.

Still, there was some potential in the one who had made all of this possible, however reckless it was.

Even if, for a second, someone else had joined Remzi—someone from the main fighters of the empire—then—

Remzi still had doubts about being able to easily defeat these individuals, as they looked too calm and confident, as if everything that was happening around them had already been calculated, planned, and discussed, leaving none of them surprised even if an unexpected situation arrived.

Or was it arrogance?

"Sir, he doesn’t seem to take the bait."

The Platinum 1 fighter who was currently overseeing the assault reported to his superiors, who were ready to step into the battle at a moment’s notice.

"Leave him alone. You have a minute to finish everything, so kill as many as you can in the meantime."

"Yes, sir."

Clank!

The plan had been nearly completed.

There were two main goals to be accomplished—one being looting the vault, and the other was to create as much chaos and destruction as they possibly could without getting killed themselves.

All the nobles and merchants who were present in the hall were being killed one after the other.

The guards that they had brought with them were too injured to even protect themselves, let alone their masters.

Everything was going according to the plan...

Still, No. 190 knew that he had to be cautious till the end. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

The biggest obstacle in the plan was Arnold Levaith, a monster who was at Platinum 5.

Arnold’s actual combat prowess was even greater than his rank, fortunately he chose not to interfere in the battle, or else they would have suffered more casualties with a high chance of possible deaths.

No. 190 wasn’t the only Platinum Expert on the field, but he was the only one who was assigned to be shown as the face of the attack.

Surprisingly, Arnold, despite being known as a muscle head, was smart enough to avoid jumping into the battle. Enough preparations had already been made to end him if he had indeed joined the fight.

"Please, leave me. I have kids—"

Spurt!

None of the people present in the hall were spared irrespective of their status or power in society.

Even if many of them resisted and tried to fight at first, as time passed, everyone knew that there was no hope of saving their lives.

No reinforcements had arrived, and neither were the forces present at the auction house able to repel these attackers in any way.

"No, leave me! Please, just kill me!"

A young woman’s shriek echoed through the chaos, as one of the Numbers had pinned her against the wall, his hand dangerously close to her chest.

His intentions were clear as day, yet none of the other Numbers stopped him.

And why would they?

As long as the objectives of the missions were fulfilled, D.X. allowed its members to do as they pleased.

There were no restrictions put on them, yet not everyone went out of their way to do something during the mission hours.

As every mission assigned to them was one in which death was always a real possibility, many of the criminals didn’t want to end their lives just because they had desired to satisfy their lust.

Still, there were a few exceptions who lived only for the lower halves of their bodies.

No. 900 licked his lips in anticipation, as his hands slowly began to undress the woman before him.

His movements were much slower for someone who was about to commit a crime, as he enjoyed savouring each moment of his victim’s cries of agony.

"NO!"

The woman screamed desperately again, hoping for someone to save her.

But—

Even if someone had been kind enough to step in, given the current situation no one had the thought of helping some random woman, as protecting their own lives was the foremost challenge for them.

No. 190 calmly observed everything.

As someone who was once a father, he found it absolutely disgusting to see such pathetic acts being performed by an individual who was under his command.

Still, rules were rules, and as one of the core members of D.X., it was his obligation to follow them.

Glancing at the watch, there were around twenty seconds left for them to complete the mission.

No. 190 sighed in relief as the time for retreat was near.

As the timer hit the last ten seconds, No. 190 turned on his device.

"All teams, retreat! I repeat, all teams, retreat! Over."

The message was immediately received by everyone, and within a few seconds all of the D.X. members began to orderly retreat from the auction house.

No. 900 clicked his tongue in disappointment, but followed the orders nonetheless.

The woman, who was moments away from her dignity being ripped apart, dropped to her knees, her body shaking as the sound of retreating footsteps finally reached her ears.
