The Wandering of an Unstuck Stepbro: Multiverse Travel-Chapter 340: The end of a surprise 1
Chapter 340 - The end of a surprise 1
(Sephie's pov)
It was a day as usual. I was doing some paperwork and running the Empire while Gid was having fun somewhere else. I swear this whole Empire would crush and burn without me. I can't imagine Gid ever willingly working behind the desk.
I'm so happy to have dug my heels in and will take a break after Lala gives birth so I can play with my first grandchild. Although I'm a bit scared of what will happen with no one looking after Gid. Maybe I should hire an assistant for him so he won't laze around when I'm not around. But where could I find someone who won't be intimidated by him...
My thoughts were cut short when I heard ringing. Someone was calling me, and after a quick check, it was Lala.
Hmm... It's strange. I don't think we were supposed to have a call today. Lala can be free-spirited, but she wouldn't call me without a reason if there wasn't an emergency, and if there was an emergency in Lala's eyes, then it must be something catastrophic.
I quickly answered the call. Although I acted calmly on the outside, I was already making plans for many different scenarios inside.
The moment I clicked the button, I could see my oldest daughter's face. She didn't seem in any distress, so I relaxed slightly.
"Hey, mama!"
She greeted me with her usual enthusiasm as she waved her hand. I really envy all her optimistic view on the world at times.
I smiled back and waved her back.
"It's good to see you, Lala. Do you need anything? I thought you were supposed to call in two days. Did something happen?"
"Yeah! A lot has happened. Me, Ryoto, and our friends wanted to go to the beach, so I used Pyon Pyon Warp-kun DX to teleport us to the beach on Okinawa, but there was a small error, and we got stranded on another planet. We needed to spend a night there, and it was kind of fun. The next day Ryoto found Mikado-sensei, and she could get us to Earth and-"
Lala took deep breaths because she forgot to breathe as she explained everything that happened as fast as she could. I couldn't help but smile at her behavior. It reminds me that no matter how old she gets, she will always be my little girl.
"Lala, dear, I'm happy that you had an interesting weekend, but I can't see why it couldn't wait two days before you called me about it."
"Ah, that's because Papa fights Ryoto right now."
That answer made me pause as if my whole brain needed a reboot.
"...Excuse me. Can you repeat the last one again? I think you just said that Gid is fighting Ryoto."
I even rubbed my eyes under my veil to be sure that I wasn't dreaming and was wide awake because I may have been overworked and heard wrong. I'm sure that Gid wouldn't be rash and stupid to fight Ryoto... again.
"That's what I said, mama. Weren't you listening?" She giggled as if I was silly for thinking that it couldn't have happened. "Ryoto asked to call you as soon as possible because he doesn't know how long he'll last even when he got stronger. Papa has fun so far, and Ryoto does too, but it would be better if you could stop Papa from going too far."
...
...
...
"I'll be there as soon as possible."
With these words, I ended the call, stood up, and called one of my subordinates.
"Prepare the fastest ship available immediately."
That was the only thing I said. The more time I waste, the more I risk Ryoto's safety. I swear if Gid does anything to my son-in-law, he will sleep on the couch for the rest of his life.
Taking soldiers or bodyguards would be meaningless. No one is capable of stopping Gid except for me, and taking more people will only slow me down.
As I was walking fast but not entirely running through the palace, two of my other daughters stopped me.
"Mama, what happened?"
My oldest daughter asked me. She was with her twin, but they were more often together than not, so it wasn't strange. I would be happy to talk with them at any other time, but time is of the essence right now, so I didn't stop and just mentioned that they should follow me if they wanted an explanation.
"Your father is doing something stupid again, so I'm going to stop him before he does something even more stupid."
"What is he doing?" Momo asked, and I contemplated how much I should tell them. In the end, I decided to just tell them. They aren't small children who can't keep their mouths shut, especially Momo, who took the most after me of all my children.
"Gid is fighting with Lala's fiancé again, and I'm planning on stopping this madness."
"Again with Ane-ue's fiancé. I don't get what's so great about him." Older of the twins said.
"That's why we should meet him. Maybe you'll realize what made Onee-sama fall in love with him, and it will start a love triangle." Momo teased her older sister, which, of course, made Nana red from embarrassment. She denied it firmly, but that was Momo's goal, and she ignored her twin to talk to me.
"Can we go with you to meet Lala's fiancé?"
I thought about my daughter's request but quickly shot it down.
"It's not a great time for that. Maybe next time when everything will be calmer. OK? Sorry, but I really need to go now. Don't cause trouble when I'm not around. Love you both."
With these words, I kissed both of them on their foreheads and left them.

Both sisters stayed quiet for a while after their mother left them, but they exchanged glances as if they were communicating with each other. It wasn't even that much of a stretch since they were twins, even if they were different in many aspects.
"How about we go to Earth to meet Onee-sama's fiancé? See for ourselves what's a big deal with him."
Momo was the first to break the silence.
"And how are you planning on doing that, and why should we?"
"Are you telling me that you don't want to escape this palace just like Onee-sama to have fun on Earth? Right now is the best time to do it. Mama is gone, and so is Papa, so slipping out would be easier. And since both Mama and Papa trust Ryoto so much that they let Onee-sama stay on Earth, they probably won't force us to go back... Maybe. Besides, don't you want to skip all these lessons we are taking? I don't know about you, but one more lesson on etiquette, and I'm going to go crazy."
"When you say that way..." Nana still seemed a bit uncertain, but Momo had other plans.
"It's decided then!" Momo didn't give Nana any chance to back away and dragged her sister to start their new adventure.
