The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 248: [Bonus - ]
[Trigger warning. You have been warned]
"No." There was steely determination in Prince Arlo’s tone now, "He is my enemy. He took my throne without permission. Is he willing to return it to me? Will he give up, step down and willingly let me, the rightful heir, rule over the Angevin Kingdom?"
"NO! NEVER!!" King Felix roared out at the top of his lungs. His eyes were filled with an unknown darkness as he gritted his teeth, "There is no way I would abide by your words. The throne is mine! I have struggled so hard to get it..."
"Felix...!" Queen Macy tried to make her husband understand that it was not the right way to go. If they could just give Prince Arlo his rightful position, they will be able to live happily with each other. "We only need one another...."
"WHO SAYS SO?" King Felix shouted at the top of his tone, a sneer twisted his face as he swung his head to look at Queen Macy. His aura turned dangerous as he struggled to get free but he could not. The hold that the knights had on him was too strong, making him unable to move even an inch. "I HAVE DONE SO MUCH TO SIT THERE. I HAVE PLOTTED AND KILLED JUST TO BE THERE. IF EVERYTHING WORKED, WE COULD HAVE RULED THE KINGDOM ALONE. BUT IF YOU WISHED FOR ME TO GIVE MY POSITION TO SOMEONE ELSE, IT WOULD BE BETTER THAT YOU DIE TODAY TOO. BECAUSE I WILL NEVER GIVE MY POSITION TO ANYONE! THAT THRONE IS MINE! AND IT WILL ALWAYS BE!!" Felix roared and shouted like a madman, spittle flying from his lips.
Queen Macy’s eyes teared up as she choked on her words. The words she just heard from her husband’s own mouth came as a shock to her. Was Prince Arlo and Nia telling her the truth the entire time? Was he truly responsible for killing everyone just so he could get the throne?
"There is no need to continue on with this discussion." Prince Arlo said. It was a mere coincidence that they had crossed each other’s path, but he would like to see the man suffer. "Let’s finish this, right here and now."
At Prince Arlo’s words, the man holding King Felix pulled his other arm up to attack. But before he could, King Felix turned his body around with all of his remaining strength and fell with his back hitting the ground. Wincing from the pain from his still bleeding neck, he bent his knees and then used all his power to kick his captor back.
The man’s hold on the sword loosened and he took a few steps back due to the force of the kick. But within that short time, King Felix moved even faster as he grabbed hold of the sword and charged toward Prince Arlo to kill him. His thoughts were clear. If the young Prince died, no one would be there to oppose him. He would remain as King!
All the knights moved around and Queen Macy pushed herself away from the man keeping her captive who had panicked. She dashed towards her brother, but by the time she could make sense of things around her, the sword had already pierced through her. Her eyes were filled with pain as she looked tearfully at the man whom she had loved so much. But there were completely no emotions in his eyes even after seeing that the sword he held had run through her. There was not even a hint of panic nor sorrow, as he seemed intent on killing her without mercy.
"Wh... why!?" Queen Macy managed to choke out as King Felix pushed the sword deeper into her body. The pain was washing over her body in waves.
"You came between me and my goal." King Felix said simply, in a sarcastic tone. "But you were supposed to die anyway. It’s easier for it to be now than later." After saying such cruel words, he only shrugged as though it was only a passing thought and meant nothing to him.
Queen Macy could not believe her eyes and ears. Had she loved and trusted the wrong man all these time? Many questions flooded her mind but she could not get any answers to them.
King Felix pulled the sword out as he saw his wife hitting the ground. But his focus had already transferred over to Prince Arlo who was now held protectively in Nia’s arms. Queen Macy was already long forgotten, useless to him as she stared at her unrecognisable husband with tears flowing down her cheeks. His eyes shone with a mad light as he moved towards his target, but before he could do anything, he felt a sharp pain spearing through the area near his heart. It did not stop there as the pain moved up to his neck and spread to his shoulders.
King Felix knew that he was under attack. All the knights were trying to kill him, but he was not ready to lose yet. He wanted to push further. He wanted to kill his opponent and claim the right to the throne again. He could not let his dream go up in smoke.
His eyes looked at Nia who shook her head. Her eyes widened in shock. It made him realize something.
King Felix fell to the ground. He could feel himself losing blood at a fast rate, but that did not matter. His eyes were focused on Nia whose gaze was filled with hatred. "Doe... s...she.... kn.....know?"
Nia was silent as she watched King Felix struggling to open his eyes. Many emotions were troubling her but she knew that maybe this was the last time she would be interacting with King Felix.
Her eyes moved over to look at Queen Macy, who at some point had already stopped breathing. What a pitiful woman she was in the end. Nia’s hold on Prince Arlo’s tightened. He was still in her arms, turned to face her as his head was buried in her abdomen. She feared for him watching such a bloody scene. She could not allow a child to witness such a traumatising scene.
Nia could see that King Felix really wanted to know. And who ’she’ was, was not a puzzle.
"Princess Eleanor knows it all." Nia managed to say evenly, "You really betrayed everyone that loved you."
Nia’s words were like a sharp knife piercing King Felix’s heart. He truly betrayed them all, but what he felt more remorseful about was that Princess Eleanor knew of his plan and yet he did not have any idea about it. He thought that he was playing her but in reality, he got played by her instead.
King Felix knew that he was about to die. His death seemed to be carried out the same way that he had given it to all of his loved ones. Prince Edwin was killed the same way on a road when he was travelling. And so was his father-in-law. He had thought that Prince Arlo would have been dead too while on the way to his destination, but who could have guessed that his own demise would be the same? This was truly karma coming one full circle.
King Felix looked up one last time at Prince Arlo who he could not kill. The young man was well protected. King Felix took his one last breath before everything around him faded into darkness and slowly became silent.
