The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 249 - 245
Princess Eleanor closed her eyes as she took a deep breath. Tomorrow was going to be a day when things will take a drastic turn. Princess Eleanor had long hoped that there would be a day when she would risk everything to make people suffer.
The letter was still in her hand. The way it was written was very much like an ordinary letter. However, it detailed that Prince Arlo met with King Felix and Queen Macy. They had a heated discussion and soon both the husband and wife died.
When Princess Eleanor was reading the letter, she thought that she might be sad if she had to make her once best friend suffer. She felt like the bond that they shared was deeper than just a friendship. But reality had proved to her that it was different. When Princess Eleanor read the news that King Felix had died, there was not a lot of extreme change in her emotions. Her eyes were even shining as if she was in relief at this discovery.
"This has turned out good it seems." Princess Eleanor then sighed, "I only wish that Arlo does not suffer too long from this." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Princess Eleanor was silent as she took a deep breath. There were many emotions that she knew her younger brother would be going through. He was a young man who had to see the death of his own sister right in front of his eyes.
’I hope Arlo is not traumatized by it. I hope Nia is okay too. It must have been quite hard on her as well.’ Princess Eleanor thought. Her eyes moved to look at the ring that sat on her finger. It was no ordinary ring. Her fingers lingered on the surface of the ring as she pressed on the small dot on the top.
The ring had a small space to store liquid. Only a few drops could be stored but Princess Eleanor knew that the poison would be more deadly the less the amount that is needed. Her eyes looked down at the beautiful necklace. When she opened it, she could see the picture of her parents and brother.
Princess Eleanor had never worn that necklace ever since the death of her family. She wanted to wear it once she punished all the people who were involved in the cruel act of murdering her family in cold blood.
"Mother, Father, I have started to act. Give me the strength to move on and do what I need to do." Princess Eleanor’s eyes turned to the picture of her brother, Prince Edwin. "I have ordered the death of the man you had considered a brother. I do not know what to feel now, but I only know that I did not feel any emotions. Is it right or not? Maybe I am not sure about it. Many things have happened but I am relieved."
Princess Eleanor took a deep breath as she took the letter and walked towards the fireplace. No one knew that the King of the Angevin Kingdom had died. All the news was blocked out by the Grand Duke. Princess Eleanor knew that it was now time to deal with the Crown Prince.
Princess Eleanor saw the letter burning in the fire and turning into ashes as her eyes reflected the flames beautifully as she continued staring at the fireplace. "The situation will be getting more chaotic now. I hope I can survive it."
—--
"Princess Eleanor..." Priest Erasmus smiled as he got up from the chair before smiling innocently at the Princess.
Princess Eleanor knew that the man was dangerous. No man could smile so innocently over nothing. She knew that she had to be careful of him. "High Priest."
Princess Eleanor sat on the chair and she smiled. They were now sitting in the garden surrounded by flowers, but Princess Eleanor could still feel a little pressure on her. Things were not as easy as it seemed to be. The man sitting in front of her was staring as if trying to find some information, making Princess Eleanor conscious of her own actions.
"Priest Erasmus wanted to meet me?" Princess Eleanor asked. She knew that she would not be getting a clear answer but she still took a chance and voiced her thoughts.
"Yes, I wanted to meet the Princess before we go ahead with the coronation ceremony tomorrow." Priest Erasmus leaned a little further as his eyes blinked. "I hope that Princess has thought it through about whom you would like to sit beside you on the throne."
Princess Eleanor swallowed. She felt like prey, caught in a predator’s gaze. "Does the High Priest have some suggestions?"
"Princess Eleanor is intelligent. No wonder the Crown Prince wants to make you his Princess. He was crazy enough to go to great lengths to destroy the things that were stopping him to get to you."
Princess Eleanor’s eyes shook a little, and she covered her trembling hands by moving them naturally under the table to hide the fact. She had a gentle smile on her face but it did not reach her eyes, "Yes, I am aware of it."
"So you want to make your parent’s killer be your husband?" Priest Erasmus was straightforward as he avoided bringing the discussion in a circle. He saw the shock in Princess Eleanor’s wide eyes as he continued speaking, "Was this supposed to be a surprise? I thought you already knew about it. Didn’t you?"
"I did." Princess Eleanor said after a moment’s pause. "But how did you know?"
"I am the messenger of God. And God can see it all. Nothing can be hidden from his eyes." Priest Erasmus smiled, "He had chosen you, but maybe Princess has forgotten something important along the way. The will of God can change according to the situation as well."
"So has it changed now?" Princess Eleanor looked straight into the High Priest’s eyes, "Am I not the chosen one?"
"No. That, you are." Priest Erasmus’s lips curled up, "But the man you should choose as your other half is not the Crown Prince."
"So the High Priest is making the decision for me? I thought the temple had a good relationship with the Royal Family?"
"The Temple does." Priest Erasmus smiled, "But I do not." There was a sudden darkness that lingered in his eyes as Priest Erasmus continued, "A person should understand which side to choose and when. I may be the High Priest, but I am human too. I am not beyond human emotions. I do feel resentment and anger as well. And I believe that keeping it within oneself is harmful."
"So the High Priest wants to act upon it?" Princess Eleanor asked. She could feel that the man sitting in front of her had gone through a lot of things in life.
"You must have heard the rumors that the previous Grand Duke had taken the First Prince as his own son. He even has a letter to prove it." Priest Erasmus knew that such things cannot be hidden for a long time. Once he saw Princess Eleanor nodding her head, he knew that she had heard about it too, "Well, the thing is, it is true. The letter is true, but there is a slight change. The Prince was not raised in the Beaumont house but was taken in by the Temple. The High Priest was in deep grief about what he had done so he decided to raise the child as his own."
Princess Eleanor went silent. She looked at the High Priest, blinking her eyes as she thought for a bit. "Why is Priest Erasmus saying such things?"
"What does Princess Eleanor think the child wants? Isn’t it natural that he wants revenge? Isn’t it natural that he hates the family who took his mother away from him?" Priest Erasmus looked at Princess Eleanor as he smiled, "You are going through the same things, Princess. You wanted revenge and you will do anything to get it. Even though you know that you will never be able to sit on the throne of your own Kingdom, you still want to go down that road. Will it be okay for that child to do the same?"
Princess Eleanor was silent but she knew that she had to say something, "Everyone has different ways to cope with a situation. What matters is how the child thinks. Does he blame his family?"
"Yes, He wants them all to die." Priest Erasmus smiled as his eyes shined. "He knows that he will not be able to sit on the throne and he does not want it either. He has been trying to gain power on his own and he has succeeded in doing it. He is more powerful than them."
Priest Erasmus looked at Princess Eleanor as he continued, "So Princess, let me tell you something. You deal with the killer of your parents and let that child deal with the people responsible for his suffering. I, as the head of the Temple, will always be the constant support behind you. I cannot tell you that the situation will be under complete control all of the time, but I can guarantee that I will do my best to keep everything under wraps."
Princess Eleanor was silent. Her eyes looked at Priest Erasmus as she saw a glimpse of the Emperor in him. She felt like the aura that the man had was dangerous, and it was not something that a mere priest can have.
’Isn’t the High Priest the one more powerful than the Royals?’ Princess Eleanor thought to herself but she did not dare ask, ’Is Priest Erasmus the First Prince? Then who is Christopher?’
