Chapter 220: Chapter 220 Collapse

Even though Chen Ke didn’t spell it out, everyone could feel the severity of the situation, as Ying Baiyi’s expression was unusually distraught.

As a level 9 agent of the Administration Bureau, anything that could disturb his composure must be more terrifying than monsters.

Everyone present, except for Chen Ke and two children, fell into an inexplicable state of agitation.

Having just survived an attack from the bird people, they thought they had reached a safe place, only to encounter an unknown danger.

Sam was nearing a hysterical state; he became silent and watchful, his eyes darting around, searching for something to distract himself.

Other survivors also exhibited unusual behaviors; some kept muttering prayers from the Bible hoping for divine protection, while others shook continuously, walking as if they were epileptic.

Diana was lying on Chen Ke’s back, motionless; her confidence and control over the situation had continuously been challenged, under the dual pressure of severe injuries and negative emotions, she fell into unconsciousness again.

Chen Ke looked around at everyone’s condition; he knew they were approaching a breaking point, constantly traveling, being told there was hope, then repeatedly devastated.

“The thought, “There’s no way back,” lingered in everyone’s mind except Chen Ke’s.

Chen Ke felt the need to say something to boost morale, yet he didn’t know what to say; he could have told them that he himself could open the door, but that wouldn’t have been wise.

“Ugh, ugh…” suddenly, a survivor bent over, his eyes bulging, vomiting everything in his stomach— a sticky mix of white and yellow splattering the ground, emitting a scent that even carried a hint of biscuits.

Others pinched their noses, instinctively moving away from the survivor and casting disdainful glances.

The person gasped for air, his legs gave out, and he sat down on the ground, unable to get up again.

“Hey! What’s the matter?!” Sam turned around and asked angrily, his face showing displeasure, with no concern for the person, only annoyance.

“I… I feel sick…” the vomiting survivor said weakly, his voice tinged with a whine, seemingly wanting to lie down.

“Get up! We need to keep moving! Don’t slow everyone down!” Sam ordered in a military tone.

“My legs are weak…my stomach hurts…I can’t stand up.” the man was already lying on the ground.

Sam walked over, grabbed his arm, and pulled him up from the ground as if lifting a dog.

“If you refuse to walk, then we will leave you behind!” he said, staring into the man’s eyes.

Chen Ke put Diana down on the ground and walked towards Sam, who had become a different person, a natural stress response in humans under high pressure, using extreme emotions to protect fragile sanity.

“Sam,” Chen Ke called out.

“Chen Ke, this is none of your business; I just don’t want to slow everyone down,” Sam turned to look at Chen Ke and said.

“Let him go, Sam,” Chen Ke said.

“He is slowing us down,” Sam replied.

“No room for negotiation, Sam, let him go,” Chen Ke frowned and said.

The people around them watched the two, Diana lay on the ground with her eyes closed, and Ying Baiyi stood a little further away from the crowd, unsure of what to say.

“So… you think I’m wrong?” Sam laughed.

“You first let him go,” Chen Ke said again.

Sam loosened his grip, and the man fell to the ground, clutching his stomach and curling up into a ball.

“Happy now? Do you want to leave him behind, or do we wait till he can stand up before we leave? Just so you know, no one here is willing to carry him,” Sam sneered.

“Sam, calm down. You can do it; you’ve already held on… for so long,” Chen Ke soothed.

Sam understood the implication of Chen Ke’s words, looked down at the ground, glanced at the sky, and sighed deeply. Then, he glared at Chen Ke, his eyes filled with anger.

“Are you saying I’ve gone mad?” Sam asked.

“Yes, that’s exactly what I mean,” Chen Ke replied coldly.

Sam laughed, hands on his hips, glancing at the survivors around him.

“He says I’ve gone mad? Did you all hear that?” Sam jeered, with everyone he looked at avoiding his gaze.

“You want to…” Chen Ke started.

“You’re the mad one! Chen Ke! Seriously, I’ve been thinking about this since earlier, why are you always so calm? Why have you never been scared, Chen Ke? Maybe you’ve been mad from the start, from the moment the disaster struck at the subway,” Sam interrupted, pointing angrily at Chen Ke.

“Don’t push me, Sam,” Chen Ke said.

“I’m even starting to wonder, if this absurd arrival here, was it your idea? Ah… right, wherever we go, you always know where the monsters are, what places are safe…” Sam slowly paced around Chen Ke.

“Sam… Chen Ke saved us…” Diana interjected.

“Shut up, you… damn woman, who knows what your relationship with him is! I begin to suspect, are you an agent of the Administration Bureau? Maybe you and he are conspiring… You two planned together to come to this world…” Sam accused angrily.

Chen Ke stepped back, positioning himself in front of Diana.

“You should explain why you, as an ordinary person, are so composed and calm, and moreover… barely injured…” someone else chimed in.

Sam’s hysteria was causing splits within the small group.

“Then tell us, Sam, why did Diana and I come here?” Chen Ke asked.

“Because… because you wanted to rescue Ying Baiyi, you all are Asians! Asians like to stick together,” Sam pointed at the distant Ying Baiyi.

“That would be great, but obviously not,” Ying Baiyi spread his hands.

“Stop talking nonsense, Sam, you’re almost going mad, control yourself!” Chen Ke said.

“From the moment I entered, I’ve been continuously controlling! Controlling! But look, Chen Ke, what have we managed to control?” Sam shouted.

“We’ve still got control over ourselves, we can go back,” Chen Ke said.

“Then why don’t you make it clear? Chen Ke, you keep saying we can go back, how? Hm? Speak up, why are you so sure?” Sam asked bitterly.

“We can go back, you just have to trust me,” Chen Ke said.

“You and Ying Baiyi are cut from the same cloth! But you can’t fool us! You’re not an Administration Bureau agent, you’re not from the County Police! Stop playing the superhero act! You know what? Inspiring hope in a hopeless situation with non-existent hope is the greatest deception!” Sam glared harshly at Chen Ke.

The surrounding survivors evidently agreed with Sam’s opinions, also casting distrustful looks towards Chen Ke.
