In the All Pantheon Alliance, the demigod level was attributed to all beings possessing power above mortals but below divinities, or what the Three Thousand Immortal Realms System categorized as immortals.

In fact, the term originally applied only to the children of the divine. These demigods could not compare to true divinities, but to mortals, they were no different from gods. Possessing the power of divinities, yet not being divinities themselves—such were beings called demigods.

Modern demigods were a far cry from their original definition. The union between a divinity and a mortal was too difficult. When demigods with the power of half-divinities were born, it often required the divinity to split off a portion of their power, weakening them, so many divinities chose not to do so. Only in exceptionally rare circumstances would an original demigod with the power of a half-divinity be born without weakening the divinity themselves. Outside of chance, fate was crucial, and some said the will of the world created the original demigods.

However, some still wanted children, so they chose to weaken the bloodline instead. Such demigods were born comparable to immortal sovereigns.

Naturally, these new-type demigods would also reproduce. Unless they copulated with a demigod of a similar bloodline, their next generation would possess diluted divine blood. Outside of extremely rare cases of atavism, their bloodline would continually dwindle until their lifespan equaled that of mortals. By then, no one would call them demigods, even if they possessed a faint bloodline.

Of course, Gu Longyu did not have such an accurate grasp of the term. His understanding came from the legends still lingering from when the Huang Realm and the Buzhou Immortal Sect still existed.

In his understanding, demigods could only be born to divinities, and each demigod harbored immense might, second only to the divinities themselves.

Of course, the remaining legends still mentioned many demigods, but many did not list their combat power, only their emotional entanglements and complex relationships with their peers. This gave Gu Longyu the illusion that all demigods were as powerful as half-divinities.

Everything made sense. No wonder the Goddess of Death directly appointed Xi Yinian as the Holy Son. He was quite literally her son. That begged the question of Tianyi’s true identity. He didn’t think a goddess would fall for a mortal, as in the legends. Perhaps he was a fallen divinity, and Tianyi was nothing more than his dissipating incarnation.

Gu Longyu didn’t know. He could think about it later, after the danger passed.

Unless the Death Defier Alliance could utilize the god-killing arm Brahmastra again, it was unlikely they had anything to deal with Yinian. Even though the Goddess of Death was incapacitated, a demigod was just as dangerous to the Death Defier Alliance.

Perhaps the Death Defier Alliance could defeat Yinian if they pooled all their treasures, artifacts, and immortals, but they would be practically crippled from that point on. The Temple of Death could easily sweep their remnants.

Gu Longyu didn’t have more time, as a grave sense of danger erupted in his heart. He quickly contacted the Death Defier Alliance. However, he knew that it was unlikely for the Death Defier Alliance or the Ancient Sky Sect to arrive and repel Yinian, much less rescue him.

However, Yinian did not focus on him—at least, not yet. Without even looking, he swung his sword. Six sword lights shot out. Unlike the indiscriminate rain of sword lights earlier, these were purposeful and targeted the remaining immortal sovereigns. Those sovereigns tried to defend, but it was useless, as the sword light pierced their bodies as if they were cotton and annihilated their souls.

And so, all the immortal sovereigns perished—all except one.

Gu Longyu felt sweat drip down his forehead as he flew into the distance as fast as possible. He did not attempt to conceal his presence. With the power Yinian had shown, it was highly likely he could pierce Gu Longyu’s concealment methods. Any attempt to do so would only serve to slow him down.

He had no thoughts of resisting. Gu Longyu knew when he met his match, but that did not mean he was giving up. The Death Defier Alliance did not have the means to combat Yinian now, but that might not remain true in the future. Even if Yinian obtained his current power through his bloodline, Gu Longyu did not believe he was inferior in potential. He just needed time.

Despite his best efforts, Yinian suddenly appeared in front of him, as if he had always been there.

Yinian’s pupils were no longer black, but a solid silver with flashes of gold and black. They were cold and aloof, as the possessor was beyond mortal and immortal—or at least, he should have been. At this moment, there was only a cold fury radiating from those eyes.

Gu Longyu clenched his saber even harder. He never imagined that this would be his end. He knew it was futile to try to escape. Even if he had an interplanetary teleportation array, Yinian could easily interfere or kill him before it took him to safety.

Since that was the case, he had to fight. No matter how small the chance, he had to try—to fight for a glimmer of hope and reach the Half-Divine Realm or the complete Divine Realm.

He swung his saber, but Yinian moved even faster. His saber left a blur in the air, but Yinian’s sword was only an instantaneous flash.

Gu Longyu’s eyes widened in shock when he felt nothing below his elbow. He glanced down to see only a stump remaining from his right arm. He knew he was outmatched, but not by this much. There wasn’t even room for a struggle. He gleaned nothing from that exchange—no insight into his opponent’s technique or method, nothing to use or absorb for his own comprehension.

Before he could recover or even move to defend himself, he felt his left arm disappear. There was no flash or hint of movement, as if the world itself had dismembered his left hand.

“You!”

Yinian stared at him with his not-quite-mortal eyes. “Disappointing.”

A cold fury rose in Gu Longyu’s chest, causing him to glare. He knew Yinian would not let him go, so there was no need to waste any words. This time, he saw a flash, and then his lower legs disappeared. His eyes hardened. He saw it!

However, so what if he saw it?

Unless his comprehension of the law reached that level, everything was useless—and Yinian knew this too.

“What would it take for you to feel the same despair I felt when I lost my parents? I thought I would never be as sad as I was at that moment, but your Death Defier Alliance extinguished my hope again.”

Gu Longyu knew what he was talking about. Yinian must have also come to the same conclusion as him about his heritage.

“I grow weary of this,” Yinian suddenly said. “No matter how hard I tried, I could never bring myself to be as low as you.”

Gu Longyu felt a sense of frustration and anger. He hated how high and mighty Yinian sounded. It was nothing more than sophistry, and any reaction would only serve to please his would-be killer.

As if to draw out his fear, Yinian slowly raised his sword until it was above his head. Just when Gu Longyu thought Yinian would end his life, the latter suddenly looked in another direction. Gu Longyu followed his gaze to see space warp as a figure appeared.

“Wintersnow!” Gu Longyu immediately released his immortal sense and desperately told her to run away, even though he knew it was unlikely. Yinian could easily kill immortal sovereigns, and she was just an immortal emperor.

“You know her?” Yinian asked. “Yes, it was suspected that you and Empress Wintersnow had a close relationship. You should know how the Temple of Death deals with enemies.”

Without waiting for Gu Longyu to react, he slashed his sword. The sword light was instantaneous. Empress Wintersnow’s body split in half right before his very eyes. Blood leaked from the top and bottom of her body. Even so, her eyes never left Gu Longyu, as if to convey her final words.

“You bastard!” Gu Longyu shouted, glaring at Yinian with hatred.

Contrary to Gu Longyu’s expectations, Yinian finally showed relief. “I was worried that you wouldn’t understand pain and were just a psychopath. Now that I know you can understand my pain, I can send you off.”

“Pain?! Your pain is nothing compared—”

Gu Longyu never had the chance to finish, as Yinian bisected him vertically.

Yinian watched as Gu Longyu’s two halves plummeted to the ground. He wasn’t afraid of Gu Longyu escaping with his soul, because he had already destroyed it the moment his sword cut through him. Now, it was just an empty shell with dull eyes.

After completing his goal, Yinian felt lost. He had dedicated over ninety-nine percent of his life to killing Gu Longyu. That one percent of his life had dictated the ninety-nine percent for so long that all he was left with was a sense of confusion after accomplishing his goal. He hated that feeling, so his mind focused on his current duty.

Yinian spread out his pseudo-divine sense and chased after the remnants of the Death Defier Alliance. After eliminating all the rebels on the fifth planet, he made his way to the other planets. Thanks to the Divine Law of Space in his bloodline, he could teleport to any of the planets in the Death Goddess Planetary Alliance.

The Death Defier Alliance was ill-suited to combat a demigod like Yinian. He first swept all the forces that made up the Death Defier Alliance, leaving the Ancient Sky Sect for last. When he arrived, the Ancient Sky Sect revealed Brahmastra, but unfortunately for them, it remained inert.

Without the god-killing arm, the Ancient Sky Sect was helpless before Yinian’s divine might. He killed the immortal sovereigns and emperors, but left the immortal monarchs who stopped resisting alive. Of course, some immortal monarchs and true immortals were too loyal, so he killed them to prevent them from affecting the Temple of Death in the future.

As for what the Temple of Death’s leaders decided, it was up to them. It no longer had anything to do with Yinian.

What Yinian wanted now was to return to the Temple of Death and meet the Goddess of Death, Nuyi, for answers. He felt that the past he knew was full of loopholes after the current revelations.

Gu Longyu thought he would cease to exist, but to his surprise, he felt something pull at his soul when Yinian bifurcated his body. He couldn’t move, speak, or do anything else, but he still sensed the world around him.

Calling it a world would not be correct. His surroundings were devoid of matter, color, and even direction. It was simply a void.

That didn’t last long, as two figures appeared. Even if Gu Longyu had forgotten them before, he would have recalled them instantly, because they were the parents of his killer: Xi Tianyi and Daoyi.

“Xi Tianyi, you bastard. Is this all your plan?!” Gu Longyu shouted—or at least, he wanted to shout, but his current state of existence did not allow him to do so.

Despite that, Tianyi seemed to have received his thoughts. “Yes. Everything is part of my plan. Thank you for playing your part in my son’s growth. It was a real pain, you know? I had to adjust your growth so that it could match my son’s and give him pressure.”

Although Gu Longyu had shouted so, when Tianyi admitted it, he still found himself stunned. He recalled how it became much easier to find his clones during a certain period. Was it so that he wouldn’t fall behind Yinian’s progress?

A world-burning rage erupted from the depths of his soul as he realized how thoroughly he had been played. That didn’t last long before a rush of memories entered his being.

It took Gu Longyu an unknown amount of time to process everything, but that only brought him more despair. His new memories were the original memories his clones had been embedded with. With them, it was clear that the memories he currently possessed were partially false—implanted into his mind so that he could play his part.

“Just so you know, the reason neither Wintersnow nor Springsnow could bear children was because I prevented them from conceiving. Even if the sperm successfully fertilized the egg, it would be stillborn,” Tianyi continued, as if he hadn’t plunged the knife deep enough. “I’d feel bad killing your child after you died. Since that was the case, it’d be better for you not to have a child at all.”

Gu Longyu didn’t know how many times he wanted to shout and kill the bastard in front of him, but he was like a puppet, forced to hear his enemy’s gloating. He should have had a chance to make them pay for their folly, but he was powerless—as powerless as the mortal who could only watch as his woman was taken away.

No—he was even more powerless than at that time.
