This Young Master is not Cannon Fodder-Chapter 704: False Miracle
Yinian stepped into the Temple of Death in Heavendeath City on Planet Heavensong with a heavy heart, and his eyes even carried a hint of betrayal. Although he finally managed to kill his enemy, his newfound power allowed him to detect many inconsistencies in his past.
After the Goddess of Death rescued him and brought him back to the Temple of Death, she closed her eyes and became dormant. In contrast, Yinian awakened his divine bloodline, gaining great power, but also much confusion.
He had already realized the source of his power: a divine bloodline. Yinian had done his research on divinities in the Temple of Death’s library. Although information regarding divinities was scarce, they still existed. For him to possess a divine bloodline, it meant that one of his parents must be a divinity. Of course, grafting a divine bloodline onto a living being wasn’t impossible; it was still only a theoretical possibility.
His first suspicion was that the Goddess of Death was his true mother, and Daoyi was nothing more than an identity or incarnation she used to experience the mortal world. That thought disappeared when he analyzed his bloodline.
Rather than death, his bloodline gave him power over spacetime, boosting his comprehension of the Law of Time and the Law of Space, but he had yet to find the convergence point between the two laws. More than that, the bloodline was all-encompassing. After awakening his divine bloodline, he felt his affinity for all laws increase, something that should not have happened if his divine parent was the Goddess of Death.
That likely meant the source of his bloodline lay elsewhere.
He briefly wondered if the people known as Daoyi or Tianyi were his parents, or ordinary cultivators manipulated by the Goddess of Death to take care of him.
To confirm or reject this guess, Yinian entered the divine grotto before even seeking out Gu Longyu. After joining the Temple of Death, the divine grotto’s inheritance did not matter as much compared to the foundation of the temple, but it still had means to save his life in a crisis. Not to mention, it housed his mother’s sleeping body.
Yinian didn’t know whether he was shocked or not, but when he entered his mother’s room, her body had disappeared. He would visit her once in a while, at least once a year if he was not focusing on cultivation, so he could accurately pinpoint her disappearance.
His mother’s body should have disappeared around the time the Goddess of Death took action.
Her disappearance meant that she was likely not an unrelated third party and had an intimate connection with the Goddess of Death, maybe even being the same person. This relieved Yinian, but also brought a sense of betrayal.
He had constantly toiled to awaken his mother, but it turned out all his efforts were for naught. His mother was actually awake and watching him all this time. The emotions whirling in his chest couldn’t be described in words.
Yinian shifted his focus and thought about his father. Unlike his mother, his father completely vanished after that fateful encounter with Gu Longyu. However, his death was highly suspicious. How could his father really die with someone like his mother by his side?
Two possibilities appeared in Yinian’s mind. First, his father was still alive and could not act as freely as his mother for some unknown reason.
Second, and an equally possible scenario, was that his father had died. The father Yinian had known was nothing but a mirage or a fake created by his mother. There was no concrete evidence, but many rumors.
It wasn’t just the Anti-Death Alliance that had heard rumors that the Temple of Death once possessed two divinities, but the temple itself. However, the upper echelons did not put much credence in that particular line of rumors. They had access to many secrets of the Death Goddess Planetary Alliance; how could they not notice if the Temple of Death once had two divinities?
It was not that none of the upper echelons supported this rumor. After all, no one had been credited with the creation of the interplanetary teleportation array. While a divinity’s power was beyond their comprehension, it couldn’t be omnipotent. The Law of Space was far removed from the Law of Death, and the records showed no instances of the Goddess of Death displaying any powerful spatial methods.
Granted, information regarding the goddess was few and far between. With her status and authority, it was easy to erase any information she did not want others to know.
Yinian stopped thinking. He was already outside the Temple of Death’s Divine Hall, where the Goddess of Death rested. Soon, all his questions would be answered.
He took a deep breath and entered.
Inside, he did not see the gigantic figure of the resting goddess with the lower half of a snake, but a woman with her back turned to him, donned in blue robes embroidered with silver phoenixes flying between the realm of the living and the netherworld. Her long black hair reached the jade tiles, making the figure exude a powerful aura despite her elfin stature.
Although it was only her back, Yinian couldn’t be more familiar with it. Suddenly, he felt his throat dry despite all the mental preparation he had done beforehand.
Yinian had so many questions, but right now, he could only utter one word. “Mother?”
Upon hearing those words, the figure turned around to reveal a face exactly the same as his mother’s. Although the features were identical, when Yinian saw them again, they felt deeper, as if the previous face had been but a pale imitation, lacking the core essence.
He opened his mouth again, but no words came out. He tried to formulate a thought, but despite his immense power, which was second to none, his mind was completely blank at this moment. If his former enemies were to see him, they would surely take this chance to kill him.
“You did very well. Originally, you should not have unsealed your bloodline so early, but it looks like you’re adapting well. It won’t affect your potential,” Daoyi said.
“Seal?” Yinian asked, his brows furrowing as he caught onto the key word.
Daoyi nodded. Since it had already come to this point, there was no point in keeping it a secret anymore. “You were born a powerful demigod, but those born with power ultimately don’t have as much potential as those who reach the same level from ordinary mortals. So, your divine bloodline was sealed.”
Yinian fell silent. “So everything I suffered was for my own good?! And what exactly is your identity? My mother, or the Goddess of Death?!”
Even Yinian was surprised by his sudden outburst, but Daoyi only showed a calm expression. “I am your mother and a divinity who mastered the Divine Law of Life and Death. The Goddess of Death is my clone.”
“Clone?” Yinian was not unfamiliar with that term. In the records of the Temple of Death, it described a method whereby cultivators could split their souls and form independent yet linked entities.
It was a pity that only those below the Immortal Realm could create clones, and Yinian had missed that window.
“Actually, you don’t need to feel disappointed. You couldn’t even create a clone if you wanted to—at least, not without damaging your foundation. Although you appeared mortal, your true realm was that of a half-divinity, a demigod. The only way you could create a clone was if you were unsealed, but if you split your soul, the sum of the parts would not equal the original whole,” Daoyi added.
After hearing this, Yinian didn’t feel much disappointment. He could clearly sense his current power. Compared to before he awakened, not even a hundred of his former self could compare to his current strength.
However, his questions weren’t finished. “And what about Father? How did he fall?”
“Fall?” Daoyi asked, as if she didn’t understand. That confusion soon disappeared, replaced by an amused smile. “Your father is still alive. He is also the source of your bloodline and the creator of this universe.”
“Universe? You mean the Death Goddess Planetary Alliance?” Yinian asked. He shook his head. “Why isn’t he here? Is there a powerful enemy?”
Aside from that, he couldn’t fathom why his parents would take such drastic measures to accelerate his growth. In his eyes, so what if he had lower potential? The power of a half-divinity was more than enough to protect himself.
His mother laughed. It was supposed to be a charming giggle, but it sounded grating to his ears. “Your father is not without his enemies, but he only has one that he takes seriously. And he has the full initiative to confront that enemy. But…”
Daoyi paused for a moment, as if to whet her child’s curiosity. Eventually, she continued, “It’s not in this universe.”
Yinian showed confusion, which Daoyi explained. “You cultivate the Nine-Five Scripture and created an inner world upon entering the Immortal Realm, granting you near-limitless energy. Theoretically, the inner world can continually upgrade to an inner system consisting of a void containing a solar system, and ultimately an entire universe. Yes, an infinite universe with no boundaries. The domain of the Death Goddess Planetary Alliance is just a small area in comparison to the entire universe.”
“You mean we’re inside my father’s inner universe?” Yinian asked incredulously. Although he found it hard to fathom how vast this range was, the years of living in the Death Goddess Planetary Alliance allowed him to understand just how big the universe was.
He quickly caught onto another aspect. “You mean he’s been present the whole time, never leaving my side?”
“Yes,” Daoyi said. “We’ve continuously watched your journey from right behind you. Of course, he’s the only one who’s always been at your side. After all, he’s far more skilled in spacetime than I am. Whenever I watched you—especially after your realm increased—I needed your father’s aid.”
“Hey, hey, don’t imply that this was all my idea,” a third voice interjected.
He was a man who appeared to be in his late twenties or early thirties. Although he had no facial hair, it did not diminish his authoritative aura. His hair was held up by a golden coronet, and he wore purple robes embroidered with golden dragons swimming through the universe.
Although the man looked older than Yinian remembered, he was undoubtedly his father, Xi Tianyi.
Tears formed at the corners of Yinian’s eyes, threatening to fall but never quite reaching that point. He had yearned for this moment for so long. Ever since that fateful day, Yinian had always wished for such a scene, but he knew it was almost impossible for his wish to come true.
Yet here he was, standing with his father and mother. He wasn’t as happy as he thought he’d be.
His original wish of reuniting with his parents was based on the belief that they had been harmed by Gu Longyu. Meeting them again would require a miracle, especially for his father.
The Temple of Death recorded the existence of the Six Paths of Samsara, and Yinian thought he would need to grow powerful enough to manipulate the river of reincarnation to retrieve his father’s soul or find his reincarnation.
But today, he found that all his efforts were something someone else had calculated. Even his enmity with Gu Longyu was something someone devised to push him to grow stronger—and these planners were his own parents.
The miracle he wished for happened, but it was a false miracle.
So Yinian exploded. “Do you understand the pain and heartache I went through because I thought you died?! Do you understand how I lived my life? My mind spent every conscious minute planning ways to kill Gu Longyu. My body only knew fatigue as I pushed it to the brink in order to gain the power to kill that bastard!”
