Three Alphas, Fated To One, Played By One, But Mated To One-Chapter 40: Regret
"Mike, did you hit her too hard? Maybe we should let it go, after all it could have been an accident while cleaning that caused the vase to break. I don’t care about the vase that much but now Valerie is hurt, she has to go back to the hospital." Innocent, just like always pretended to be the good guy.
Anyone who didn’t know would think that she was defending me, but in fact, she was nailing a nail on the coffin of that accusation.
Also, knowing that Mike is proud, she wanted to arouse his pride and make him treat me even more harshly.
As expected, Mike raged after that.
"What hitting her hard? She deserves to be hit for deliberately breaking your vase. How many people have been cleaning this house? Why did none of them break it before? Only when she came back did it get broken. She is just a low life who doesn’t know her place. So, what if she does, let her die. Who cares about her meager life?" Mike spoke so angrily that the whole room went quiet.
No one dared to talk when the alpha was angry for fear of being implicated.
I lay in the pool of blood that was widening as I listened to my own mate say that my life was worthless and even if I died, it was nothing.
I knew that I had made the right decision to start making money. I just hoped I would have the life to spend it.
Just as I was losing consciousness, I felt someone shout angrily, "Move aside." Then I was picked up and as he strode outside, I completely blacked out.
My last thought was, I had left the hospital for less than twenty-four hours and I was going back.
Mike’s POV
I watched as Karl carried Valerie out the door for the second time in two weeks and felt my heart tighten.
At least the last time was caused by someone else, but today was my doing.
I hadn’t meant to slap her so hard. I just wanted to make her admit her mistake.
She had broken the vase and as my mate, she should own up to her mistakes.
Why did she have to keep denying it and even accuse Innocent of beating her up?
I know that the last time in the hospital Innocent had indeed gone too far, but she had been overwhelmed by emotions and didn’t mean to hurt Valerie that much.
Why should she hold a grudge to this point? This was one reason I had chosen Innocent as my Luna. Valerie, even though she was my mate, didn’t have the makings of a Luna.
She is too petty and doesn’t know how to look at the bigger picture.
Even though she has a problem with Innocent, she shouldn’t have brought it up in front of so many people. That would only make me look like I have poor sight. After all, I was the one who insisted on choosing Innocent as my Luna even when my father advised me against it.
As my mate, she has the obligation to cover up my flaws. Why did she have to expose me?
As I watched her bleed on the floor, I had mixed emotions. If she bled to death, at least I won’t have to feel so conflicted about choosing Innocent as the Luna without acknowledging my fated mate.
However, if she died, I might not get a second chance mate to complete our mate bond. Then my strength will never increase.
I was still debating whether to take her to the hospital when Karl pushed his way into the circle and carried her off.
The pain of that scene felt like someone had pierced a knife into my heart and they were constantly twisting it.
My breathing became hurried and I staggered backwards from the pain.
"Mike, is something wrong?" It was Innocent’s sweet voice that brought me back from the abyss.
I took a deep breath and grounded myself before turning to look at her with a smile. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"No, nothing is wrong. Go back and rest some more. You worked hard last night. I will go to the hospital to check up on her. I can’t have the charge of killing her on me." I had to find the perfect excuse to see Valerie and Innocent being the woman who worshipped me and listened to everything I say, she nodded her head and headed for the stairs.
I walked out in large strides as I headed to the hospital but after leaving the pack house, I grew impatient and shifted into my wolf.
Jerry doesn’t fit his cute name. He is a large black wolf that is almost my height when I stand.
He was urging me to get to the hospital quickly because he wanted to see our mate.
When I slapped Valerie and burst her head, Jerry was so angry that he fought to take control and take her to the hospital.
I had to do everything I could to hold him down, but now, I couldn’t anymore.
I ran to the hospital in my wolf form, surprising those I passed along the way.the hospital was about a mile from the pack house. Not too far, but Jerry felt that walking would take too long.
When I arrived at the hospital, I headed straight to the storage room where some clothes could be found and shifted back before picking up a pair of new clothes and wearing them.
I then headed to the emergency room only to be informed that Valerie had been taken to the theater.
I literally felt my heart collapse at those words. I had thought that only her skin was torn and needed a few stitches. Why did she need to be taken to the operation room?
I headed to the operation room on the second floor and found Karl sitting on the bench outside covered in blood.
My heart nearly burst out of my chest at the sight.
